Chapter 3: Meowth Who Loves to Exercise
Taylor had been researching Pokémon compatibility.
A high compatibility score means the adopted Pokémon can live a happy life with its trainer. The higher the score, the better. The highest compatibility score Taylor had seen so far was 88%. That Bulbasaur, now adopted, was thriving and living joyfully.
A low compatibility score, however, suggests the Pokémon might not bond well with its adopter. This doesn't imply abuse, but rather potential personality clashes or a trainer's lack of fondness for the Pokémon. These factors could all contribute to a low match.
"Excuse me, Lucian, do you like Poochyena?" Taylor asked gently. Lucian's face showed a hint of confusion, which both Taylor and Officer Jenny noticed.
It seemed the young boy didn't like Poochyena very much.
This wasn't surprising. Children of Lucian's age, embarking on their Pokémon journeys, generally preferred the region's three starter Pokémon. Unfortunately, the requirements for obtaining a starter were hard, and not every family could afford to provide one for their child.
"Mr. Daran, I think it's best to let your son choose his first Pokémon. Forcing a Poochyena might not satisfy either of them," Officer Jenny stepped forward and said to Lucian's parents.
Lucian's parents looked slightly embarrassed, but seeing their son lower his head in silence, they didn't argue. Instead, they thanked Taylor and Officer Jenny and left with Lucian.
Since Lucian's family decided against adopting the Poochyena, the only Pokémon left for the Pokémon orphanage to rehome was Meowth now. With this in mind, Taylor led Rhea to find Meowth.
"Mr. Taylor, do your Pokémon roam freely?" Rhea asked, having followed Taylor and Officer Jenny for a long time.
"Well, our Pokémon, except for designated eating and sleeping areas, are free to move around at other times," Taylor explained with a smile.
Although it was just a basic Pokémon orphanage, the facility was big. Taylor had seen it covered at least ten acres of land.
Taylor blew a whistle, and soon, Kuro flapped its wings and soared over, landing on his arm and rubbing his cheek affectionately. Its small eyes sparkled with attachment.
"Kuro's grown so big now? I remember when I brought it here, it was so skinny," Officer Jenny said, a hint of tenderness in her eyes as she looked at the Murkrow.
"Being loved will make you grow faster." Taylor said, gently touching Kuro's head. Officer Jenny paused for a moment, then smiled.
Taylor then told Kuro he wanted to find Meowth. Kuro nodded, took flight, circled in the air, and flew toward a certain location. Taylor then took Rhea and Officer Jenny and followed Kuro's footsteps.
"This path," Taylor's expression became a little subtle. He found that Kuro's flying direction was toward the training area of the Pokémon orphanage.
Taylor's Pokémon orphanage was a novice gift package rewarded by the system, and it came with some basic infrastructure, and this direction corresponded to the Pokémon orphanage's training facilities.
When Kuro stopped, Taylor saw Meowth, named Nova.
But at that moment, Nova was exercising. It kept running in a facility similar to a hamster treadmill, and the Poochyena next to it, named Dusk, was also running happily.
"Ms. Rhea, that is Nova, the Meowth," Taylor introduced Nova to Rhea. Although Rhea had seen some information about Nova, Taylor felt it was still necessary for her to see it with her own eyes.
At the same time, Taylor also took a look at the compatibility score.
There was no change in compatibility.
"So cute, but this Meowth looks," Rhea's expression was a little subtle, while Officer Jenny was looking intently at Dusk, the Poochyena next to Nova.
Taylor looked a little embarrassed.
As a Pokémon orphanage for Taylor's Cheat, it was naturally not as simple as it looked. This exercise area had a special effect, the exercise effect increased by 20%, which meant it was easier to achieve results by exercising in it.
And this was just the case before upgrading. If upgraded, the bonus of training effect would be even higher.
But even so, Nova and Dusk had some muscles on their bodies, especially when they ran, their muscles were clearly visible and they didn't look easy to mess with.
"I want to adopt Nova!" Rhea said happily. Taylor was a little surprised. He thought Rhea might hesitate, but unexpectedly she seemed to like it even more, and the compatibility score increased by one percent.
"That's of course no problem," Taylor said, breathing a sigh of relief. As long as Rhea liked Nova, that was fine.
Thinking of this, Taylor called Nova over, and Nova and Dusk ran over together.
At first Nova was quite happy, but when it saw Rhea looking at it with tenderness in her eyes, it became a little hesitant.
Pokémon are very smart and their IQ is not low. When Taylor saw Nova's look, he knew that Nova must have guessed something.
Only Dusk still looked silly, sticking out its tongue to cool down.
"Nova, this is Ms. Rhea, she likes you very much," Taylor said, squatting down and rubbing Nova's head.
Nova's eyes still held a hint of hesitation. It glanced at Rhea. It could sense that this trainer liked it, but something held it back.
Rhea had been looking at Nova just now, so she naturally noticed Nova's hesitation. She immediately thought of Dusk next to it.
After all, judging from the performance of Nova and Dusk just now, the two little guys knew each other. If she only adopted Nova, then Nova would have to be separated from its companion.
"Mr. Taylor, can I adopt two Pokémon?" Rhea asked softly, looking at Nova and Dusk with a smile on her lips.
Taylor paused after hearing this. Adopting two Pokémon? He had been running the Pokémon orphanage for two months, and he had never encountered such a situation.
"Of course, but you need to receive a follow-up visit from me," Taylor said, understanding what Rhea meant. This lady was planning to take Dusk away together with Nova.
That was fine.
When Nova and Dusk were abandoned, they knew each other. After they settled down in the Pokémon orphanage, they had a very close relationship. Neither of them might be happy to be separated.
Sure enough, after Taylor smiled and said that Rhea also wanted to adopt Dusk, Nova suddenly became closer to Rhea, even with a hint of flattery, which made Taylor feel a little sad.
These little guys should not have been abandoned.
