Pokémon orphanage

Chapter 2: Adoption Is a Big Deal

"Don't be so anxious, Bonk." Taylor looked at the Primeape in front of him helplessly.

This little guy was also one of the abandoned Pokémon, suffering from neuromeningitis, which caused behavioral disorders, an inability to control his speed, and uncoordinated limbs.

When he was abandoned, Bonk's condition was even more severe. After a period of recuperation, it had improved slightly. At least he no longer punched himself in the face at every turn.

Bonk waved his fist, then slowly moved to the table, climbed onto the chair, and started eating today's breakfast.

Taylor also noticed the plate of breakfast he had placed on the table twist and disappear instantly. He glanced over, then looked away.

Today, Abra was still being socially anxious.

Soon after, a Poochyena and a Meowth walked in together. When they saw Taylor, they ran to him and rubbed against his legs. After receiving Taylor's praise, they trotted off to eat contentedly.

Taylor looked at the two little ones with a smile. They were very healthy. The reason they were abandoned was a note left next to their Poké Balls: "They are too weak and not worthy of me."

"There's one more..." Taylor glanced at the clock on the wall.

It had been two months since Taylor started running this Pokémon orphanage. He had taken in several stray and abandoned Pokémon, some of whom had been adopted out. Most of those still staying in the Pokémon orphanage were problem Pokémon.

A Purugly walked in. After seeing Taylor, the little guy came over and opened his mouth. A small Rattata fell out, its body covered in Purugly's saliva.

The Purugly's tail wagged, and Taylor didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but he picked up the trembling Rattata and asked Kuro to toss it outside the Pokémon orphanage.

The Pokémon orphanage had a special food storage, so it was inevitable that some creatures would sneak in to steal food. Since this abandoned Purugly joined the Pokémon orphanage, it had taken on the responsibility of guarding the food warehouse.

"Well done, Puffin. Let's go eat." Taylor said gently, and Puffin happily wagged its tail and went to eat.

The large-bodied Purugly was not a very popular Pokémon, and its treatment was very different from that of the unevolved Glameow.

Puffin was abandoned because its original owner couldn't accept that the cute, elegant Glameow had evolved into such a big, fat cat.

"According to the time we agreed upon, it should be this afternoon." Looking at the little ones eating, Taylor's eyes fell on Poochyena and Meowth.

These two were lucky. Someone had taken a fancy to them and wanted to adopt them. This was a good thing.

Although Taylor's Pokémon orphanage was large and could be continuously built and upgraded through the system, he still hoped there would be fewer Pokémon in his care, preferably none at all.

After all, those who ended up here were basically abandoned Pokémon.

Once the little ones finished their meal, Taylor started cleaning up the dishes. The Pokémon orphanage had no extra income or employees, so when there were no kind volunteers to help, most of the work fell to Taylor alone.

"I was thinking of saving up some happiness points to exchange for a basic intelligent robot to help with chores." Taylor grumbled while washing dishes.

Then a plate floated silently into Taylor's hand, placed gently, as if carefully set there.

Taylor smiled.

Although Casey was very socially anxious, she used her psychic powers skillfully. If her anxious personality didn't prevent her from battling, Taylor felt Casey would not have been abandoned.

The plate danced in Taylor's hands. He waved his hands, declining Casey's offer to help wash the dishes.

The last time he let Casey help, two plates were accidentally broken, further straining the Pokémon orphanage's already tight finances.

Since then, Taylor no longer let Casey help in washing dishes.

Although Casey had tried many times to prove she was capable of the task.

After washing the dishes, Taylor returned to his office. He picked up the schedule, where he had drawn a red circle.

Adoption day, emphasized.

This was a big event for the Pokémon orphanage.

From a system perspective, adopted Pokémon provided a large amount of happiness points at once, provided the adopter could truly bring happiness to the Pokémon.

The Adoption Matching Detector, which Taylor had obtained early on, could assess this, preventing people with ulterior motives from adopting and mistreating Pokémon.

From Taylor's personal perspective, he was happy to see the little ones find homes.

Although he took good care of and loved these Pokémon in the Pokémon orphanage, Taylor knew that deep down, these once-abandoned creatures longed for a partner who truly cared for them.

Taylor picked up the information in his hand.

This was from Officer Jenny of the Alliance.

The Alliance helped Taylor find adopters, and he didn't refuse. After all, he had little time to search for adopters himself. The Alliance handled initial screening, and then he used the matching device for a final check, ensuring the Pokémon's happy life to the greatest extent.

Ever since he gave an injured, abandoned Bulbasaur to that cute little girl, and later saw Bulbasaur's joyful face during a visit, Taylor found meaning in this job.

He looked at the information and set it aside. Paper details were only a reference. He had to see the adopters with his own eyes.

Soon, Taylor met this round's adoptive parents.

"Director Taylor, this is Ms. Rhea, and this is Lucian. They're here to adopt Pokémon." Officer Jenny said, smiling at Taylor.

Taylor's gaze moved past Officer Jenny and settled on the two adopters.

Rhea was a 30-year-old woman planning to adopt a Meowth. She had a happy family, and her reason for adopting was that her previous Meowth had passed away, so she wanted a new companion.

[Matching degree: 82%]

Taylor nodded and said, "Not bad."

This matching degree ensured Meowth would live a happy life after adoption.

Taylor looked at the other adopter.

A young couple arrived with their son, who was the intended adopter.

They wanted to adopt Poochyena because their son was nearing the age to go on a journey, so they sought a starter Pokémon.

[Matching degree: 20%]

Taylor frowned slightly.
