After leaving Cerulean City, Misty and Brock asked more questions during their journey. Although Ash had always been sharing his experiences with them, even helping Misty's Goldeen evolve into Seaking, this time they inquired in more detail. After all, they now understood that Ash was a monster in disguise, a seemingly cute Meowth who could take on Elite Four members.
As they traveled, the trio exchanged travel stories, and of course, they couldn't avoid battling with the Pokémon trainers they encountered along the way.
"Kakuna, use String Shot to wrap around Raticate, then use the recoil to harden and charge!"
"No way!"
With Kakuna's hard body slamming into Raticate, a passerby's Raticate let out a cry and fell to the ground.
"Growlithe, use Flamethrower to finish off Oddish! Charmander, use Bite on Starmie! Ralts, use Confusion!"
With these three commands, three more battles came to an end.
Misty and Brock watched as Ash effortlessly ended the battles, almost as if he were bullying the opponents.
"Hey, now that I think about it, isn't Ash's strength a bit too overpowering for these battles?" Misty asked somewhat sheepishly, seeing Ash being challenged by more people. After all, someone who could defeat Elite Four members battling ordinary trainers on the roadside—wasn't that just bullying?
But Meowth shook his head and said, "Not at all, meow. Boss is training Ralts and the others, meow. So every battle is a chance for improvement, meow. While these battles might seem insignificant to us, they are very beneficial for Ralts and the others, meow."
"Lucky!"
Chansey nodded, indicating that Meowth was indeed correct.
"Is that so?"
As they were speaking, Ash's Pidgeotto had already charged towards the final enemy.
"Gust to finish the battle."
"Pidgeo!"
Pidgeotto flapped its wings, creating a whirlwind that knocked the last challenging Rattata to the ground.
"So strong... maybe you could defeat that Beast Tamer A.J."
A passing Trainer couldn't help but comment as he looked at Ash, and Ash became somewhat interested upon hearing about the Beast Tamer. After all, if everyone called him the Beast Tamer, he must have some skills, right? So Ash asked the person, "Where is this Beast Tamer you mentioned?"
"Just up ahead, not far. With your strength, you can definitely beat him."
"Is that so? Thanks!"
Then Ash turned to Brock and Misty and said, "Let's go check it out. It's about time for Metapod anyway."
Neither Brock nor Misty had any objections to Ash's suggestion, as they might learn some new techniques.
Soon, Ash and his companions arrived at the place where A.J. was located. It was easy to find, as A.J. had a sign that read "Unofficial Gym, 98 Wins in a Row..."
"Unofficial Gym, quite bold. I wonder if his strength matches. Is anyone there? I'm here to challenge the gym!"
Hearing Ash's call, a guy with a punk hairstyle walked out. He looked at Ash and said, "Are you here to challenge the gym? I'm A.J., the gym leader here!"
"Unofficial Gym? Then let me see your strength. Go, Metapod!"
As the Luxury Ball in Ash's hand flashed, Metapod appeared in Ash's hand. A.J. glanced at Ash with some regret and asked, "You're using Metapod?"
Seeing that A.J. clearly didn't take Metapod seriously, Ash's expression changed. "No, your opponent isn't Metapod, but..."
As Ash spoke, Metapod began to glow with the light of evolution, and soon a sturdy Beedrill flew beside Ash.
"But Beedrill."
A.J. was somewhat surprised to see Ash's Metapod evolve, but he didn't really take Beedrill, a common Pokémon, seriously.
"In that case, go, Sandshrew, to win once again!"
Seeing that A.J. had only sent out a Sandshrew at the peak of ordinary strength, Ash's expression worsened. Did this guy not know the true strength of a Gym Leader?
"A.J., let me ask you, what do you think of Gym Leaders' strength?"
A.J. was momentarily stunned by Ash's question but still answered, "Gym Leaders? I've defeated a few, and they seem just average."
Hearing this, Ash pulled down his cap and said to Misty and Brock behind him, "I'm going to teach him a little lesson, don't mind me."
Then Ash turned to A.J. and said, "Let's begin."
"Alright! Go, Sandshrew, use Roll to knock down Beedrill!"
"Ugh!"
"Beedrill, Focus Energy and Twin Needle, it's over..."
After saying this, Ash had already turned his head, and the moment Beedrill received Ash's command, a gleam flashed in its eyes. It then gathered its strength and charged towards the balled-up Sandshrew.
"Ugh!!!!"
With a scream from Sandshrew, it fell directly from mid-air and then collapsed to the ground.
"Sandshrew! How is this possible?!"
"Hey, A.J., right? Staying in a place like this won't help you grow at all. You should go and challenge a Gym Leader seriously. You'll understand the true strength of a Gym Leader."
After saying this, Ash ignored A.J. Meanwhile, Team Rocket, who had been secretly watching, looked at Beedrill and muttered, "So strong, that kid's Beedrill is actually this powerful..."
"In that case, we have one more reason to steal from that kid!"
"Beedrill, use Pin Missile on that bush."
"Buzz!"
Hearing Ash's voice, the trio from Team Rocket was stunned, and then Meowth asked, "Is the kid talking about the bush, Meowth?"
"Seems like it..."
"No way!" *3
"Ouch ouch ouch!!!!" *3
Seeing the three guys who had been hit by the Pin Missile, Ash released his Charmander and said, "Use Flamethrower to send them off."
"Charmander!"
Boom!
With a huge explosion, Team Rocket flew off again.
"Ugh! Why didn't they let us release our Pokémon this time, and not even let us say our opening lines!"
"That kid is a man of action!"
"Let's just say our final line now, Meowth!"
"What a terrible feeling~" *3
