Chapter 439: Chapter 27: The Strength of Gyarados
"Roarrrr!" The enormous Pokémon let out a triumphant roar, celebrating its victory over Honchkrow.
However, he wasn't entirely satisfied. Deep within its crimson eyes was a longing to unleash its full potential—especially the powerful move it had yet to showcase.
As Gyarados loomed over the battlefield, a sudden red aura enveloped its body. The activation of its Moxie ability raised its attack power, making the already imposing creature even more formidable.
"Too strong!" Falkner muttered, his eyes burning with admiration. Though Gyarados was primarily a Water-type Pokémon, its secondary Flying typing resonated deeply with Falkner, a Trainer who specialized in Flying-types. He couldn't help but envy such a majestic and powerful Pokémon.
"Return, Honchkrow." Falkner recalled his defeated Pokémon. Rather than feeling disheartened, he viewed it as a privilege to witness such raw strength.
"That was incredible! Is this Mr. Ash's true power?!" Spectators in the gym erupted into excited chatter, their voices echoing through the arena. Gyarados had stirred their spirits, and its overwhelming presence left them in awe.
Falkner exhaled slowly, regaining his composure. "Alright. It's your turn to shine. Go, Pidgeot!"
The Poké Ball burst open in midair, releasing a radiant white light. From the glow emerged Pidgeot, a majestic Pokémon with a larger frame and sharper features than most of its kind.
Its glossy plumage shimmered under the lights, and its keen eyes burned with determination.
This Pidgeot was Falkner's ace, a gym-level Pokémon with the Keen Eye ability. As Falkner's first-ever partner, it held a special place in his heart and had carried him through countless battles.
Ash's eyes narrowed with interest. "A gym-level Pokémon, huh?" He smirked. "This is exactly what we need. Gyarados will grow even stronger by facing such a powerful opponent."
Pidgeot briefly faltered as it took in the sheer size of Gyarados, but its confidence returned quickly.
Years of experience had taught it to face challenges head-on, no matter how daunting.
—
"Begin!"
The referee's voice barely faded when Gyarados let out an earth-shaking roar, its crimson eyes glowing fiercely. "Gyarados, Ice Fang!" Ash shouted immediately, aiming to seize the momentum early.
The giant Water/Flying-type surged forward, its massive jaws frosting rapidly as sharp, icy energy coated its fangs. With a growl, Gyarados lunged at Pidgeot with frightening force.
"Pidgeot, dodge it!" Falkner commanded, his voice calm but decisive.
Pidgeot's powerful wings flapped once, sending it soaring higher into the air. The bird Pokémon's movements were incredibly graceful, as if it danced across the wind itself.
In the blink of an eye, it slipped past Gyarados' massive ice-encrusted jaws, the Ice Fang missing by mere inches.
"Pidgeot, use Air Slash!" Falkner commanded.
Pidgeot let out a sharp cry as Flying-type energy surged through its wings. With a swift motion, it unleashed twin sky-blue energy blades that crossed in an "X" shape, cutting through the air toward Gyarados.
"Gyarados, take it head-on!" Ash called. He wanted to gauge the extent of Gyarados' defensive capabilities against an attack of this level.
Without hesitation, Gyarados stood its ground, glaring at the oncoming attack with unwavering confidence.
The Air Slash struck Gyarados with a resounding boom. The force of the explosion pushed the massive Pokémon back a few meters, but its thick scales remained unscathed.
Gyarados flexed its body and let out a low growl. While the attack had caused it some pain, it was far from being incapacitated.
Ash nodded in approval. "Gyarados' massive frame doesn't just give it unmatched offensive power. Its natural defenses are just as formidable. We've only scratched the surface of its potential."
Meanwhile, Falkner was stunned. "It shrugged off Air Slash like it was nothing… What incredible resilience."
"Again, Pidgeot! Air Slash!" Falkner called, unwilling to back down.
Pidgeot executed the move flawlessly, sending another "X"-shaped blade of energy toward the exact same spot as before.
Its precision and control were remarkable, showcasing the years of training it had undergone.
"Good, Pidgeot! Follow up with Quick Attack!"
Pidgeot closed its wings slightly and dived downward, accelerating with blinding speed. A silver blur trailed behind it as it dashed toward Gyarados, ramming directly into its side.
Gyarados grunted, its thick scales absorbing much of the damage, but the force still made it slide slightly across the field.
Ash grinned, his confidence unwavering. "Gyarados, shake it off and use Aqua Tail!"
The serpent Pokémon whipped its enormous tail, water spiraling around it in a torrent of energy. The sheer size and force of the attack made it look like Gyarados was swinging a crashing tidal wave.
"Pidgeot, use Feather Dance to soften it!"
Before Aqua Tail could connect, Pidgeot began glowing faintly, flapping its wings rapidly to release a flurry of shimmering downy feathers. The loose plumes drifted onto Gyarados, dulling the power of its attack as they weighed it down slightly.
Still, the reduced Aqua Tail scraped dangerously close to Pidgeot, and Falkner winced as his Pokémon twirled nimbly to avoid the strike. It was clear that even a weakened attack from Gyarados could be devastating.
"Speed is where we win this," Falkner muttered to himself before pointing forward. "Pidgeot, step it up—Aerial Ace, now!"
With incredible precision, Pidgeot zigzagged through the air, its wings gleaming as it locked on to its hulking target. It dived forward, slicing through the air like a spear and striking Gyarados directly in the chest.
