Pokemon: Rising from Pallet Town System

Chapter 103: CHAPTER 104

c104: Ash Caught A Big Guy! !,

After arranging specific Water-type Pokémon to be hooked for Tierno and Trevor, Ash began discreetly coordinating catches for several of his close companions as well:

Xiaolan — Goldeen

Shauna — Goldeen

Gary — Croagunk

Serena — Azumarill

While most students were catching Water-type Pokémon weighing between 10kg and 15kg, the ones Ash helped his friends reel in started at 20kg and went upward setting them apart significantly.

Watching Gary and the others rush with enthusiasm to Professor Oak's station to weigh their catches, their names climbed the rankings swiftly. In less than ten minutes, over 97% of the student leaderboard's top three positions had been claimed by Ash's inner circle.

Satisfied, Ash finally averted his gaze from the commotion and focused intently on the deepest part of the river.

"Now it's my turn. Froakie, are you ready?"

Ash glanced down at Froakie, who had been silently perched beside him, also watching the water's surface with an air of discipline. The two had already formed a strong understanding through synchronized training sessions.

"Froa—!" Froakie responded with a confident croak, his wide eyes narrowing into sharp slits. He had no idea what kind of rival awaited beneath the water, but his spirit was fired up and unwavering.

"Alright. Let's begin." Ash didn't hesitate. With a smooth motion, he cast his line out into the river, the rod arching dramatically. The baited hook weighted with custom-made dense bait, enhanced with Power Stone residue splashed into the deeper current with a crisp plop.

Below the surface, Gyarados had been waiting. Honoring the previous agreement and sensing Ash's signal through waveguide resonance, it lunged without pause. With a violent snap of its massive jaws, it took the bait.

Tonk!!

The bobber that had calmly floated a second earlier vanished beneath the water in an instant, yanked down with explosive force. Froakie's eyes flickered sharply as the fishing line jerked, vibrating with tension.

Fwoooosh! The taut line sliced through the river like a whip, whistling ominously as water splashed in every direction.

Ash, calm and focused, planted his feet firmly and gripped the fishing rod like a veteran angler. One hand controlled the rod's direction, the other turned the reel with perfect rhythm releasing slack when needed, drawing back when possible. Beneath the surface, it was a battle of will and endurance between boy and beast.

Boom!! A powerful thrash beneath the surface sent sediment churning and clouds of murky brown water spiraling through the current. The once-clear river erupted in crashing waves.

Although most students had already submitted their catches to Professor Oak, a handful still fished by the shore, hoping to land a standout Water-type. But as Ash's rod bowed under the strain and the river turned turbulent, even these late fishers couldn't help but gasp.

"What the heck look at those waves! That's not just a big fish… Ash is wrestling a Gyarados, isn't he?!"

"No way. Even if it is a Gyarados and he lands it, that'd mean an instant 100-point perfect score and first place overall. But don't forget Xiaohao tried the same thing and got smashed. That Gyarados nearly put him in the hospital."

"You're forgetting something. Ash isn't Xiaohao. He's been at the top of our entire group since day one. Between his aura skills, his coordination with Froakie, and his ability to communicate with Pokémon, he just might pull it off."

The tension along the shore grew. All eyes turned to Ash as he braced against the wild force pulling at his line. Amid the shouts and splashes, his expression remained composed eyes locked on the thrashing point in the river, where a fierce contest was reaching its climax.

"Alright, enough guessing, everyone! The water's too muddy to see anything clearly, and the Pokémon hooked underwater hasn't surfaced yet. We can't tell what Ash's actually caught!"

The commotion from Ash's side of the river had begun to attract attention not only from students who were still fishing, but also from those who had finished registering their Water-type Pokémon with Professor Oak. Hearing the splashing and spotting the turbulent water, many students ran from Oak's tent across the field to gather at the riverbank, eager to witness the spectacle.

"Whoa!! Look at those waves Ash must've hooked something huge!"

"No way… Is it Gyarados?!"

"Stop it, don't say that! Ash is so cool, and he's super strong but I'd hate to see him get hurt…"

The waves churned, brown and frothy, violently crashing against the shore. Among the onlookers, excitement and anxiety mixed freely. Some students stared wide-eyed, jaws agape in awe. Others watched nervously, gripping their Poké Balls tightly, as though preparing to jump in if needed.

Professor Oak and his assistant Gang Ping exchanged wary glances. The disturbance caused by Ash's hook was far more intense than the one seen earlier when Goh (Xiaohao) had hooked Gyarados and that incident had ended in disaster. Oak's mind raced: Could there really be a second Gyarados in this stretch of the river?

To be safe, Oak summoned his trump card: Champion-level Dragonite. The towering Dragon-type hovered close by, alert and ready. If things spiraled out of control, Oak would act instantly.

Though he strived to treat all campers equally as the program director, Oak was still human and deeply biased in his heart. Between Ash and Goh, their difference in talent was like night and day. Ash had already demonstrated profound potential, excelling in both traditional training and mastery of the waveguide a rare skill connected to the aura phenomenon, previously seen only in Lucario and certain elite Trainers.

Oak had once traveled through time with Celebi, the Forest Guardian, back in the 40s. During that journey, he had established a special bond with Ash, who had appeared beside him across timelines, shaping his fate. Ash wasn't just another camper he was family, a fellow Pallet Town native whom Oak had watched grow up.

In contrast, Goh was from Vermilion City. Bright, yes, but unfamiliar. Oak saw Ash as a legacy: someone to nurture, protect, and potentially present to the League as a prodigy.

So when the river boiled with wild energy, Oak instinctively moved closer, bracing for the worst. I can't let Ash get hurt like Goh… not again.

But Ash, calm and composed, sensed the crowd and realized the moment had come. Using his waveguide ability, he silently transmitted a message to Gyarados beneath the river's surface:

"Gyarados, that's enough. Now start acting like we're battling give them a real show. When I give the signal, feign exhaustion and let me subdue you."

"ROARRRR!!"

The massive Gyarados burst through the river's surface with a deafening cry. Water exploded around it like cannon fire. Its serpentine body glistened under the sun, towering over the students on the bank. Muscles rippling, fangs exposed it was a terrifying sight.

"AHH! It's really Gyarados!!"

The entire shoreline erupted into chaos. Students screamed. Some stumbled back in fear, others shouted warnings. Their minds flashed back to earlier Goh being injured, the panic, the helplessness.

Even Oak's face turned pale. He hadn't imagined another Gyarados lay in wait. His hand hovered over Dragonite's Poké Ball.

"Ash, get away from there! That thing's too dangerous!"

But Ash didn't flinch. Without even turning, he answered back over his shoulder, voice calm and confident: "Professor, I've got this. Please trust me."

Still gripping the rod, Ash stood tall at the water's edge, unwavering. The air around him seemed to crackle not just with tension, but with focus and fierce willpower.

"GyaradosI challenge you! Fight me, and let's settle this!"

The Gyarados responded with a thunderous roar, acknowledging the call to battle. With that, the riverbank crowd fell into stunned silence, every eye now locked on the clash about to unfold.
