Pokemon: Skybound

Chapter 216: 216. Doomsday Scenario

----

Kai's legendary bird trio suddenly abandoned their respective battles and soared straight up into the sky, disappearing deep into the storm clouds above.

The three original legendary birds froze in confusion. Why had these newcomers suddenly stopped fighting and retreated together at the same time?

Despite their confusion, they chose not to pursue it immediately. Instead, they cautiously turned their gaze upward, watching the clouds.

Within seconds, the dark storm clouds thickened and expanded rapidly at a terrifying speed. In just a few breaths, the entire sky was completely consumed.

This wasn't just one island being covered. The clouds spread across a massive 200-kilometer radius, casting a shadow over the entire ocean.

Previously, the battle between the legendary birds had already darkened the sky. But now, it had reached a new level of darkness not a single ray of sunlight could break through.

The air pressure shifted, sending chilling gusts of wind that rustled everyone's hair.

Misty hugged herself, shivering slightly.

Something about the atmosphere made her feel uneasy a deep, suffocating pressure weighed on her chest.

Nervously, she turned to Kai and whispered: "Kai… what exactly are you trying to do?"

Standing beside her, both Melody and Tracey also turned to look at Kai, curiosity flashing in their eyes.

Kai patted Misty's shoulder lightly and smirked. "I'm preparing to unleash a combination attack of extreme power."

"But…" he added with a slight chuckle, "although my legendary birds have practised this move a few times in private… to be honest, it's still in the testing phase."

"Out of all our attempts, we've only successfully pulled it off once."

"If it weren't for a situation this critical, I wouldn't be using it at all."

"So… I'd suggest you guys prepare some defences just in case."

Hearing this, Misty, Tracey, and Melody all felt a sense of unease. This didn't sound very reassuring…

But, given the circumstances, they had no choice but to trust him.

Misty quickly released Starmie, instructing it to protect Melody, who didn't have any Pokémon of her own.

At that moment, snowflakes began falling from the sky. Everyone immediately realized what this meant A blizzard was coming.

The sky rumbled, thunder roaring like an angry beast but the lightning itself remained trapped within the clouds as if something was forcibly gathering and concentrating it.

Misty furrowed her brows. "A blizzard… and lightning at the same time?"

She had seen Pokémon unleash powerful moves before, sometimes even affecting the weather But never had she seen something of this magnitude.

This was far beyond normal.

As the snowfall intensified, the original legendary birds found their feathers gradually becoming damp.

The snow melted on contact, turning into water droplets, soaking their bodies.

Then—

CRACK!!

With an earth-shaking explosion, lightning finally erupted from the clouds But instead of a single bolt, dozens of electric streams surged downward all at once!

Each strike was aimed directly at the four battling legendary Pokémon.

"It's coming," Kai murmured, his eyes locked on the battlefield.

The original legendary birds desperately tried to evade, but being exposed in the open sky, they had nowhere to hide.

Worse yet—

Their soaked feathers made them perfect conductors for the lightning. The electricity sought them out like living predators, striking dead-on.

Zapdos and Moltres howled in pain, their bodies convulsing under the immense voltage. Articuno, thanks to its Ice-typing, resisted the worst of the damage.

Even though the thunderstorm looked apocalyptic, the damage was spread out, preventing it from being lethal.

Still—

The combined impact sent Zapdos and Moltres plummeting toward the sea.

Only Zapdos, due to its Electric-type resistance, managed to recover mid-air but even it looked visibly weakened.

And the attack wasn't over yet.

Just as the lightning faded, a violent blizzard followed immediately after, engulfing the battlefield.

This time, Articuno was barely affected.

But for Zapdos and Moltres, the frigid storm became pure agony.

Even after enduring two devastating waves of attacks, the legendary birds of the Orange Islands refused to go down.

But their condition was dire.

Each of them was battered, breathing heavily, their feathers in complete disarray. The once majestic birds now looked on the brink of collapse.

"Damn… almost," Misty muttered in frustration. "I thought this would take them all out at once."

Kai shook his head, his face calm."It's not over yet, One last move."

Misty's eyes widened,b"One last…?"

She looked up and her breath caught in her throat.

From above the storm clouds, a massive sphere of fire was forming Like a second sun, it illuminated the entire battlefield.

"W-What is that!?" Melody gasped.

"A meteor!?"

Kai smiled, "No… That's Moltres' final move, Burn Up! And because it's coming from such a high altitude, it creates the illusion of a meteor."

The blazing inferno plummeted toward the battlefield.

Sensing extreme danger, the three legendary birds of the Orange Islands attempted to flee But they were too late.

BOOM!!!

Moltres smashed straight into Zapdos, triggering a colossal explosion.

A heatwave burst outward, instantly melting the surrounding ice and shattering the frozen ocean beneath them.

A violent shockwave spread across the battlefield, sending icy debris and mist flying in all directions.

The force was so great that even Kai and the others, standing far away, nearly lost their balance.

The gale-force winds made it impossible to keep their eyes open.

Thankfully, their Pokémon shielded them from harm.

When the chaos settled, they looked toward the battlefield and saw the result.

The ocean's surface was now a massive crater of steam and melted ice.

Floating unconscious in the centre Was Zapdos completely defeated?

Kai's Moltres hovered above the battlefield, but even it looked exhausted.

Using Burn Up from such an insane height had cost it a great deal of energy.

In truth, Kai had originally developed this strategy to counter a threat like Mewtwo.

He had never expected to use it against the legendary birds of the Orange Islands.

But the situation had demanded it.

And now Zapdos was down.

The storm began to clear.

The winds fell silent.

But as Kai surveyed the battlefield He realized something was missing.

"Wait… where's Lugia?" Misty suddenly asked.

Kai frowned. He hadn't seen it since the lightning strike.

He looked around and suddenly realized the truth.

Lugia had disappeared.
