Chapter 149: Sibling Dragonites

So fast?

Hayashi Ten and Hayashi Mei exchanged glances of astonishment as they saw Hikaru emerge from the room in less than half an hour.

The materials Hikaru had purchased were at least A-tier treasures. How could he have processed them so quickly?

"Cough, sorry to keep you waiting," Hikaru said, holding a box of energy cubes. "It took a while because I also made some for Latias."

To Hikaru, crafting these energy cubes wasn't difficult since they were primarily designed to guide and stimulate psychic power. What took longer was preparing Latias' energy cubes.

"Can these really cure Dragonite's headache?" Hayashi Mei asked skeptically, eyeing the seemingly unremarkable cubes.

Though the cubes looked vibrant and professionally crafted, they seemed far too simple to solve such a complex issue.

"Dragonite's issue isn't an illness. It's due to the awakening of its Psychic-type talent, which is causing intense headaches," Hikaru explained.

"Psychic-type?" Hayashi Mei was even more perplexed.

What did this have to do with the Psychic type?

"Oh, Mei, trust Hikaru on this. Both of our Dragonites were hatched by the same parent, the Dragonite from the Mu family. My Dragonite had the same problem, but after just practicing some psychic techniques in the dragon pool yesterday, its headaches have completely disappeared!" Hayashi Ten chimed in.

"Really?" Hayashi Mei's suspicion grew.

She was well aware of her Dragonite's persistent problem and couldn't believe her brother's had already been resolved.

"Yes, both Dragonites share similarities, but your Dragonite's psychic talent is even greater. Developing it further could be an excellent direction to take," Hikaru said, handing the box of energy cubes to Hayashi Mei.

"...Thank you," Hayashi Mei said, hesitating slightly before accepting the box.

"One cube, three times a day. Within five days, the issue should resolve itself," Hikaru instructed.

"Anything else?" he asked, noticing their stunned expressions.

Hayashi Ten shook his head.

"Alright then, I'll be on my way. If there are any issues, just give me a call," Hikaru said, waving as he left.

Hayashi Mei stared at Hikaru's departing figure and then back at the box of energy cubes in her hands. "That's it?"

"Well, why don't you try it and see?" Hayashi Ten shrugged. He understood her skepticism; he had also doubted the explanation that their Dragonites' headaches stemmed from awakening psychic talent.

"Alright, I'll head back to campus," Hayashi Mei said. She said goodbye to her brother and returned to her university, Central Youth University.

She booked a skill training room and released her Dragonite inside.

"Roar?" Dragonite looked at the energy cubes its trainer handed over, tilting its head in confusion. Wasn't this supposed to be a treatment for its headache? Why was it being given food instead?

But the aroma!

Dragonite sniffed the cubes, its expression quickly turning blissful. The scent was irresistible!

The taste proved even better. Taking a cautious bite, Dragonite's face lit up in delight, its eyes brimming with joy.

But then, something unexpected happened. A sharp pain shot through its head, followed by an overwhelming flood of energy breaking through a barrier that had seemed insurmountable. Years of latent power surged forward.

"What's happening?" Hayashi Mei gasped.

As Dragonite's trainer, she could sense its aura intensifying rapidly.

Level 51… Level 52… Level 53!

For Pokémon at the Master level, advancing even a single level was incredibly challenging, often requiring months or even years of effort. But in mere moments, her Dragonite had gained two levels!

Not only that, but the energy spilling from Dragonite's awakening Psychic power caused the training room's equipment to vibrate slightly, as if being pulled by invisible strings.

"Psychic power?" Hayashi Mei murmured in astonishment.

Dragonite's psychic affinity had awakened, and the sheer force of it was nearly uncontrollable.

"Roar!" Dragonite roared triumphantly, its aura rippling through the room. The excruciating headaches that had plagued it for so long were now completely gone.

"Is this how strong its psychic talent is?" Hayashi Mei's usually composed demeanor cracked as she watched in awe.

Dragonite, overjoyed, scooped up its trainer and soared into the air, licking her face repeatedly in gratitude.

"Alright, alright, Dragonite. I get it. You're happy now," Hayashi Mei said with a laugh, wiping her face.

Her heart felt lighter than it had in years. The headaches that had plagued her Dragonite since its time as a Dragonair were finally gone. The relief brought tears to her eyes.

She thought back to Hikaru. "I need to thank him properly…"

With the National Youth League approaching, Hayashi Mei had been feeling conflicted. Unlike the High School League, which was limited to high school students, the Youth League was open to all trainers under the age of 24 who had reached the Advanced Trainer rank.

However, each trainer was only allowed to participate three times in their life.

Hayashi Mei had already used one of her attempts during her sophomore year of college, but she had been eliminated in the second round. The pressure to perform in her remaining two attempts was immense.

If Dragonite's condition hadn't been resolved, she might have had to forfeit altogether.

"Roar~" Dragonite, still brimming with excitement, eyed the remaining energy cubes with longing.

"Alright, Dragonite," Hayashi Mei said gently, patting its head. "Hikaru said you can only have three a day. Save the rest for lunch and dinner."

Though she maintained a cool exterior with others, Hayashi Mei's affection for her Pokémon was evident in her tender tone.

Suddenly, the door to the training room creaked open...
