"Stay anywhere, pick whatever you want," Theodore said simply.

Chris had originally offered to rent the place, but Theodore didn't ask for compensation.

Although Chris knew Theodore was optimistic about him, he was also aware that this kindness created a sense of obligation. Not that Chris feared owing a favor—he believed friendships often grew from mutual assistance. Theodore, after all, had been an important mentor to him, and Chris was happy to maintain that bond.

That afternoon, Chris went to inspect the house.

Trial Island No. 7, crafted by Dragon University for Theodore's use, was part of the seven trial islands situated around the school. These islands were close enough to reach quickly, even at full speed on a Flygon. Chris had chosen Flygon for the ride rather than Garchomp, as he preferred to avoid the discomfort of a rough landing.

Trial Island No. 7 boasted three villa-style buildings. The first was a grand villa atop the mountain at the island's center, reserved exclusively for Theodore. The second, a research villa near the mountain's base, housed Theodore's team and a large collection of Nosepass for ongoing studies. The final villa, a seaside residence, faced the expansive East China Sea.

Since the hilltop villa was clearly off-limits, Chris chose the seaside villa. Its location was perfect—secluded and backed by the mountain while facing the vast ocean. Noise from Pokémon training wouldn't bother anyone, and its proximity to the sea was ideal for Surf training and future attempts at mastering Whirlpool.

After ordering some essential furniture that evening, Chris began moving the next day.

The dormitory didn't hold much to pack. Most of the furnishings had been left by previous residents, so Chris only needed to bring his Pokémon and their training equipment. He stored everything in his secret base, intending to retrieve it once he reached Trial Island No. 7.

"It feels like using a space ring," Chris mused, recalling a common trope from novels he'd read in his previous life.

The seaside villa turned out to be a spacious three-story building. The first floor featured a massive living room, large enough to accommodate all of Chris's Pokémon at once—except for the massive Tyranitar and Steelix.

The second floor contained seven or eight rooms, providing even more space than his dormitory. Togepi and Delibird retained their usual living arrangements; Delibird, with its short flights between the cafeteria and Chris's living spaces, didn't seem to mind the change of scenery.

The third floor had only two rooms but included a large balcony. Chris immediately imagined hosting small parties there, complete with barbecues.

The biggest surprise, however, was behind the villa.

Built into the mountainside, a hidden passage led to an enormous underground chamber—nearly half the size of a football field, with a ceiling towering six meters high. It had been intended as a secondary laboratory for Theodore's research. Since it hadn't been claimed, it was now at Chris's disposal.

Chris planned to turn this space into a den for Tyranitar and Steelix, allowing them to stay outside their Poké Balls. He also saw it as an opportunity to bond more deeply with Steelix, whose Mega Evolution stone he had already obtained. All that remained was strengthening their connection and securing a Mega Ring.

Although Mega Rings were hard to come by, Chris knew he could pursue one with enough effort—even if he couldn't yet travel to the Kalos region. For now, his priority was training and proving his strength.

The chamber's size also made it perfect for large-scale training, such as perfecting moves like those of Machamp.

As Chris surveyed the villa and its amenities, he couldn't help but feel satisfied. This setup was ideal for both living and training, and he was eager to make the most of it.

"Move in!" Chris declared enthusiastically.

"Then, let's all come out and see the new home!" he shouted as he threw all the Poké Balls into the air.

The Pokémon appeared one after another, each reacting with excitement to their new surroundings.

Greninja took one look at the seaside villa and immediately darted toward the ocean. No Water-type Pokémon could resist the allure of the sea!

Blaziken flexed its powerful legs, leaping first onto the third-floor balcony and then bounding up the cliff to explore the mountaintop. It was a natural explorer, always eager to jump, run, and push its limits—something it couldn't fully enjoy back in the dormitory. Now, with the freedom of the island, Blaziken was thrilled to roam.

Garchomp glided to the balcony, found a sunny spot, and sprawled out for a nap. True to its example, Slakoth sought a peaceful Pecha Berry tree, settling itself beneath it with its mouth slightly open, as if waiting for berries to drop directly in.

Lairon stationed itself lazily by the villa entrance, soaking in the sun's warmth. Its size made the balcony inaccessible, but it seemed perfectly content to keep watch on the ground. Meanwhile, Axew and Tyrunt dashed around Lairon, playing a lively game of tag. Their energetic antics caught Lairon's attention.

"Don't let them run too far," Chris instructed.

"Lair~" Lairon replied without even lifting its head. Taking care of the youngsters was second nature to it.

Hariyama and Wobbuffet dashed inside the villa, each determined to claim the best spot in front of the TV. They quickly discovered that Chris had anticipated this. Each room was equipped with its own TV—one for movies, one for gaming, and even a personal gym for Chris to work out.

Smeargle, always inspired by new surroundings, began painting the villa's exterior, its brush strokes bringing vibrant life to the blank canvas.

Tyranitar lumbered toward the beach in search of its favorite rocky terrain but, finding none, decided to settle for sand. It began building a sand sculpture shaped like a person, only to promptly eat it in one bite.

"Tyranitar !" Chris cried. "That's supposed to be me, isn't it?"

Tyranitar gave a salty grunt of acknowledgment, seemingly unimpressed with the flavor.

Gardevoir remained at Chris's side, walking gracefully into the villa alongside him. It always preferred to stay close, observing with quiet devotion.

However, Chris made a detour to the backyard cave before unpacking. Steelix's massive size made it tricky to navigate the villa grounds without causing accidental damage, so Chris waited until they reached the expansive underground chamber to release it.

Steelix emerged with an ecstatic roar, thrilled to finally stretch out. It coiled and uncoiled in a gleeful circle before eagerly burrowing into the earth to explore the cave's depths.

With everyone settling in happily, Chris felt a wave of relief. "The first meal in our new home," he announced with a grin, "let's have a BBQ!"

Cheers and cries of approval rang out from his Pokémon as they began preparing for their first celebration on the island.
