Crown of Gyarados (★★)
Chris no longer needed to worry about Gyarados's held item. This Crown possessed both anti-Electric properties and rain-inducing effects, plus the additional benefit of "25% chance to absorb damage and restore 25% HP."
It was undeniably a massive upgrade.
The only concerning aspect was that the Electric resistance required rainy conditions to activate, which presented a potential vulnerability. If an opponent established sunny weather, the Electric resistance would become ineffective.
But... Chris doubted this would be problematic.
In a battle between an Electric-type Pokemon and Gyarados, trainers would typically prefer rainy conditions.
After all, Thunder never misses in the rain, making Gyarados an easy target!
He also noticed the "★★" marking after the Crown of Gyarados name.
If there was a ★★ rating, could a ★★★ version exist?
Chris pondered this possibility.
He currently possessed three exclusive items. Besides the Crown of Gyarados, he had "Gastly Barrier" for Haunter and "Larvitar Ribbon" for Tyranitar. To upgrade them to ★★ status would depend on finding compatible Pokemon-exclusive items in the future.
Moving on to examine the other rewards.
The special item obtained from Team Aqua was "Refined Metal Coat."
Refined Metal Coat: Increases Steel-type move power by 40%, and enhances defense and weight when attacked.
A Steel-type Secret-Treasure.
Chris had only two Steel-type Pokemon in his lineup: Steelix and Aggron. He decided to give the Refined Metal Coat to Aggron since Steelix already possessed a "Flame Pattern Metal Coat." The next Steel-type Secret-Treasure would go to Steelix.
The bonus TM was "Brick Break."
A Fighting-type move with 75 power, its main function was to shatter "Light Screen," "Reflect," and "Aurora Veil."
It could be considered a Fighting move specifically designed to counter defensive barriers. Perfect for Pokemon who specialized in close combat.
After organizing his treasures and TMs, Chris flew directly to Lavaridge Town. He was eager to clear Team Magma's dungeon and witness the climactic battle between Groudon and Kyogre.
Landing in Lavaridge Town, he ascended Mt. Chimney. Just below the Volcano Plan location, a cave entrance stood open. As he walked inside, a prompt appeared before him.
[Enter dungeon "Team Magma Base"? (First-time completion rewards available)] [Yes/No]
[Recommended entry level: 80]
"Enter!"
Chris's body materialized inside Team Magma's headquarters.
Unlike Team Aqua's metallic structure, Team Magma's base had a more primitive design.
Chris felt as though he'd walked into the heart of a volcano. Everywhere he looked was solid rock, illuminated by wall-mounted torches. A warmth rose from the floor and permeated the air.
As Chris ventured deeper, this warmth gradually intensified into dry heat! Mt. Chimney was indeed an active volcano!
"Should have brought a mask," Chris muttered, remembering that he would encounter magma further in, producing fumes more potent than what the Volcano Plan had generated.
He opened the dungeon information panel.
[Dungeon objective: Defeat Maxie, leader of Team Magma]
[Side mission: Defeat all Team Magma members. Task reminder: 40 targets remaining]
[Time limit: 120 minutes (countdown 119:59:50)]
"Same objective as before," Chris closed the dungeon prompt and tossed two Poke Balls.
Gardevoir and Greninja appeared.
"Gardevoir, Mega Evolve! Use Psychic to scout!" Chris raised his hand, revealing his Key Stone.
Gardevoir immediately transformed, donning a black wedding dress, clasping her hands together, and beginning to explore the entire Team Magma base with her psychic powers.
"This time, you'll lead the charge!" Chris said to Greninja.
In Chris's assessment, Team Magma's base presented a much lower difficulty than Team Aqua's. The reason was simple—his two Pokemon, Greninja and Gyarados, were both Water-types.
Weren't they perfectly suited to demolish Team Magma?!
"Gre!" Greninja agreed with a low croak, crouching before launching forward with powerful legs.
Immediately ahead came the shouts of Team Magma members.
"Intruder alert!"
A Magmortar rushed out, aiming its cannon-like arms.
But Greninja's Water Shuriken struck before it could fire.
One shuriken nailed Magmortar directly in the chest, sending it reeling backward. Its arm cannons misfired, causing an explosion.
The battle was over.
Using just two of the five Water Shurikens she'd prepared, Greninja had instantly knocked out Magmortar!
The Team Magma Grunt who had raised the alarm stood dumbfounded. He had planned to command Magmortar to hold Chris at bay while waiting for backup...
But now...
"Camerupt, use Tackle!" Seeing Greninja approaching steadily, the Team Magma Grunt hastily threw another Poke Ball.
But Camerupt had barely emerged from its Poke Ball when Greninja, surrounded by a water veil and wielding glowing white blades in both hands, sliced through the air.
Aqua Jet + Slash!
The combination was fast, fierce, and devastatingly effective!
The Team Magma Grunt tried to reach for a third Poke Ball, but Greninja was already upon him, delivering a swift "Pound" to his face.
"Crack!" A crisp sound echoed.
The Team Magma Grunt was sent flying backward, his cheek instantly swelling. When he landed, he had already lost consciousness.
Greninja had moderated its attack. Had it used its blades, the Team Magma Grunt would likely have suffered serious injuries.
After dispatching one enemy, Greninja continued her advance.
Chris followed behind at a leisurely pace, using his treasure detector to search for valuable items.
"Team Magma is so poor!" Chris complained, putting away his treasure detector in disappointment.
Team Aqua's base had contained at least a Master Ball, but Team Magma's base not only lacked a Master Ball but apparently had no high-tier items at all.
"Since there's no Master Ball, let's finish this quickly!" Chris raised his hand and threw another Poke Ball, releasing Garchomp.
"You go too—engage the Team Magma members."
Garchomp immediately sprinted in the opposite direction from Greninja.
Chris wasn't concerned about Garchomp and Greninja getting lost; Mega Gardevoir would guide them to enemy locations through her Psychic abilities.
As for himself...
Chris walked directly toward Maxie's location.
If all went according to plan, by the time he reached Maxie, Garchomp and Greninja would have eliminated all Team Magma Grunt and would return to his side.
