Outside the door came the sound of knocking, accompanied by Little Yellow's crisp, childlike voice.
This was one of the guest rooms in Little Yellow's home, decorated simply but adequately comfortable. For a place to rest, it was already quite decent. Most importantly, staying here for a night saved a hefty 10,000 yen in lodging fees — money that could buy Gible a week's worth of food.
"I was just about to sleep. What is it, Little Yellow?"
Logan had just finished checking some information and was about to sleep when he heard Little Yellow's call. He got up and opened the door. Gible, who had been lying on the floor with eyes half-closed, also got up along with Logan after hearing the knock.
The door swung open, and there stood Little Yellow holding a blanket.
"Big Brother, here's your blanket."
The blanket seemed somewhat large compared to the little girl's small frame, but she struggled and carefully held it out. Seeing this, Logan quickly took it from her.
"Thank you so much, Little Yellow. You're really thoughtful. When you grow up, you'll definitely make a good wife!"
Logan teased lightly, earning a shy bow and a giggle from the little girl.
Only then did Logan notice that Little Yellow had already changed out of her robe-like outfit that resembled a dojo uniform. Now she wore pajamas adorned with strawberry patterns. The tiny girl was naturally petite and slender; the pajama pants revealed delicate, snowy white ankles. Her small feet were nestled in fluffy slippers. Her golden hair cascaded down her back, and her adorable, fragile doll-like appearance instantly made one understand why so many people in this world had a lolicon preference.
"Little Yellow, you should sleep early. Kids need plenty of rest. Or are you afraid and want me to sleep with you?"
Logan raised an eyebrow and teased with a smile.
"N-no need for that! I'll go to sleep now. Good night, Big Brother. And good night to Gible too~"
The little girl understood boundaries. She shyly waved her hand, greeted both Logan and Gible, then quickly ran off, the tapping of her slippers echoing on the floor.
"Such an adorable little girl, right, Mewtwo?"
Logan patted Gible's head, signaling it to go to sleep and not worry about guarding. He yawned and switched off the light.
"I don't understand what you're talking about."
Mewtwo's light voice came from the Pokéball on the bedside table.
"Hahaha, maybe it's better that way. Good night, Mewtwo!"
Logan hung the Pokéball with Mewtwo around his neck, the only time he truly felt safe.
"Good night, Kai."
——
The next morning, Logan freshened up and changed into clean clothes. Standing before the mirror, he fixed his hair. The clean outfit and rested body transformed him instantly from a weary traveler into a stylish young man with a modern flair.
"Big Brother, are you really leaving so soon? Why not stay a few more days?"
Enjoying the breakfast Little Yellow had prepared, the little girl asked somewhat wistfully at the table. It was obvious that even though Little Yellow behaved maturely, she still felt lonely since her parents were often away.
"I wish I could stay longer with you too, but I can't afford to waste time here. My journey has only just begun."
Logan felt that the warmth here was like a beautiful trap. Though this gentle little girl was a source of comfort, staying here too long would surely sap his motivation, making him complacent and forget his ambitions.
Little Yellow quickly perked up, as if she hadn't complained once about her parents' frequent absences. She flashed an adorable smile and said, "…Then you must come back often, Big Brother~"
"Absolutely. When your Big Brother achieves success, I will return home in glory."
Logan laughed softly and ruffled the little girl's head, promising her.
"Then… have lunch here before you leave. I have something to give you~"
Little Yellow thought for a moment, then made her decision.
"Hm? Something for me? Alright then, I'll have lunch and leave afterward. I also arranged a delivery to your address."
Even though they'd only spent a day together, Logan adored this sweet little girl. Who wouldn't like such a smart, cute, and pretty child? He took down her home phone number, figuring that in this technologically advanced world, even if people weren't always there, regular calls or texts were easy enough.
The morning passed while Logan continued researching. Just before noon, the doorbell rang.
"Is Mr. Logan here? I have a delivery for you!"
"Coming, just a moment!"
Logan set down his laptop, slipped on his slippers, and hurried to the door. Outside stood a man wearing a uniform adorned with a Rapidash logo. He carried a bag, and a Ponyta stood behind him with more packages strapped to its back.
"This is your delivery. Please sign here."
Logan signed the receipt and watched the deliveryman mount the Ponyta, heading to his next stop.
"Here's your food supply for the week."
Logan patted Gible, who had run out to help, and indicated the bag, which Gible carried back inside like a loyal dog.
After having another meal with Little Yellow at her home, Logan finally learned what she had prepared to give him — several boxes of delicious bento meals, enough for an entire week, stored safely in that high-tech waist pouch without fear of spoiling.
"Next time I come, I'll catch you a rarer Pokémon as a gift!"
Logan sighed lightly. He had only done a small favor for this little girl, just catching a couple of fish, but the rewards he received far exceeded his efforts.
"Pokémon don't matter, Big Brother. Just promise you'll stay safe~~ I heard being a trainer is very dangerous, so you have to work hard~"
Before parting, Little Yellow stood at the door, waving enthusiastically at Logan and clenching her small fists to cheer him on.
"With Gible here, he'll protect me,"
Logan placed his hand over the Master Ball at his chest, feeling most secure with Mewtwo inside.
Gible barked in agreement.
Turning his back on the little girl, Logan slipped his hand in his pocket and, with Gible by his side, gradually walked away. It wasn't a final farewell — they had plenty of time to meet again. He had originally planned to stay a few more days in Cerulean City for a little fun, but after realizing his financial crisis, he abandoned that plan to head directly for the next city: Violet City.
Because he discovered that Gym Battles paid money. The Pokémon League allocated funds to each gym annually, and trainers who defeated gyms could earn a million yen as a prize. It was a kind of encouragement from the League to the trainers.
Only after Logan's silhouette disappeared did Little Yellow finally put down her waving hand. Closing the door, she returned to her room, took out her sketchbook, and flipped to a blank page. Guided by her memories, she quickly sketched a drawing on the white paper—
A boy with hands in pockets and a bright, carefree smile, alongside a cute yet fierce Pokémon.
"Big Brother will definitely become an excellent trainer."
Lying on her bed and kicking her feet up, the little girl thought this, her smile slowly spreading without her realizing.
