Heracross, with a base 125 Attack stat, unleashed a same-type move—Focus Punch—with 150 base power, all amplified by the fury of its rage.
In the end, despite only being level 37, Heracross managed to land a devastating punch on Mega Aggron—enough to leave it temporarily dazed.
However, Mega Aggron's physical defense was monstrous, and the level gap between it and Heracross was a full 24 levels.
So Heracross's Focus Punch only barely cracked the steel helm protecting Mega Aggron's head, doing far less damage than Ursaring, who had previously enhanced its power using Belly Drum.
Moreover, force begets force. While Heracross did manage to injure Mega Aggron, its own right arm broke during the impact.
"Don't just stand there—finish him off, Aggron! Use Fire Punch!"
"Zweilous, Yanmega—return, now!"
Seeing his Mega Aggron once again falter inexplicably and allow an enemy to land a clean hit, Ranka—who had been thrown off by Aggron's fall—shouted furiously.
"Damn it! What the hell did Sato do to my Aggron? One delayed reaction could be luck, but two? There's something seriously off here."
Ranka had become completely alert now. A sliver of hesitation crept into his mind. Although he didn't yet know what was going on, it was clear Aggron wasn't in fighting shape anymore. If this continued, he'd lose.
Better to retreat now than die a fool's death. Though boiling with rage and deeply ashamed at the idea of retreat, Ranka couldn't ignore the very real possibility that he might die here. He forced down his pride and fury.
Mega Aggron, too, was fuming. Normally, with its explosive close-range power, a small fry like Heracross wouldn't have even touched it—much less struck its head.
But after it took down Ursaring with Iron Tail, a strange sense of lethargy had surged up from deep within. That moment of sluggishness was what gave Heracross the opening to strike.
Now, with a single Fire Punch, Mega Aggron sent Heracross flying far away. Like Ursaring before it, Heracross collapsed unconscious upon landing.
On the other side of the battlefield, Thomas was still engaged in an intense battle against Zweilous.
As expected of a pseudo-legendary Dragon-type nurtured with great care by Ranka, Zweilous was a force to be reckoned with. With two heads capable of using different moves simultaneously and a wide movepool across multiple types, even while outnumbered four to one, it held the upper hand.
So far, Thomas's Pinsir and Houndoom had both been defeated. Only Rapidash and Seismitoad remained in the fight.
Rapidash relied on its high Speed and used Fire Spin to harass Zweilous from a distance. But due to the rain weakening Fire-type moves and the move's poor effectiveness, it barely scratched Zweilous.
The true main force was Seismitoad, who, thanks to its Swift Swim Ability, had become blindingly fast in the rain. Its superior mobility allowed it to consistently dodge Zweilous's attacks.
And when Seismitoad couldn't evade, Thomas would quickly direct Rapidash to support it, helping Seismitoad escape danger.
Seismitoad's Ice Punch and Mud Bomb were crucial—Ice Punch delivered solid damage, while Mud Bomb drastically reduced Zweilous's accuracy.
Although Zweilous appeared dominant, raining down a barrage of moves on Rapidash and Seismitoad, a closer look revealed that 90% of its attacks were missing completely. The other 10% were being smoothly countered under Thomas's expert guidance.
In reality, Thomas had taken full control of the battle. While he couldn't defeat Zweilous quickly, stalling it was no problem.
Zweilous, clearly frustrated by the stalemate, let out a relieved growl the moment it heard Ranka's command. Abandoning Thomas's team, it hurried toward Ranka.
"Hmph. You're not going anywhere! Rapidash, Seismitoad—block it!"
Thomas wasn't about to let his advantage slip away. He'd finally found a soft target, and he had no intention of letting it go. He quickly ordered Rapidash and Seismitoad to intercept Zweilous.
At the same moment, Yanmega, which had been struggling against Arcanine, also disengaged upon receiving Ranka's command and flew toward his position.
With six stacks of Speed Boost, Yanmega was blisteringly fast—only a Pokémon like Arcanine, with access to Extreme Speed, could keep pace even briefly. Without a move like Mean Look, few could stop Yanmega once it decided to flee.
It shot into the air, shedding Arcanine's pursuit, and raced back to Ranka.
"Now, Kecleon—use Role Play to copy Seismitoad's Ability, then swap it to Bellossom and Swampert using Skill Swap."
"Golduck, use Soak on both Zweilous and Aggron, then keep Disable active to prevent Aggron from using Stone Edge!"
"Bellossom, your turn—use Quiver Dance, then fire a max-powered Energy Ball at Zweilous!"
"Swampert, I'm counting on you again. Lock down Aggron—don't let it get away under any circumstances!"
Sato had been watching Ranka closely and immediately noticed the signs of retreat. He whispered orders to the returning Kecleon and rapidly gave commands to his other Pokémon.
Kecleon shifted its gaze to the other side of the battlefield. It used Role Play to copy Seismitoad's rain-enhanced Swift Swim Ability, then leapt beside Bellossom and used Skill Swap to grant her the same Ability.
Immediately after, Kecleon used Role Play again to copy Bellossom's new Swift Swim, then jumped to Swampert and transferred the Ability to it as well with Skill Swap.
At the same time, Golduck—floating midair—disengaged Disable from Aggron. It then sprayed a blast of special water at both Zweilous and Aggron.
Zweilous, still engaged with Rapidash and Seismitoad, was caught off guard and struck by the Soak attack. Its body and fur were instantly drenched in a watery sheen, and its type temporarily changed to Water.
Aggron, still struggling with its lack of speed, was unable to dodge the fast, forceful Soak blast either. Like Zweilous, its entire body turned bluish with moisture—its typing also temporarily shifted to Water.
