During this period, aside from collecting number tags and strengthening his Pokémon, Sato had also been searching the mysterious island for Pokémon with exceptional potential and training value.

Among the Pokémon that caught his attention were Slakoth and Aron.

The former was the key to initiating his adaptive training plan for a Slaking with the Truant ability after entering the island, while the latter was essential to helping him quickly acquire the power of Mega Evolution.

Unfortunately for Sato, finding a naturally diligent Slakoth—or even obtaining a top-quality Slakoth egg—was incredibly difficult.

The former was akin to winning the lottery—one of those rare chance encounters. The latter was even harder, as Slakoth eggs were typically kept deep within territories protected by multiple powerful Slaking. Even getting close, let alone obtaining one, was no easy feat.

As for Aron, the only place Sato had found where they lived was the Diamond Canyon. But for some unknown reason, all the Aron clans in that canyon were deeply hostile toward humans.

Whenever a human entered their territory, they would immediately swarm together and attack.

Because of this intense hostility—and the fact that Vanna, a major threat, often roamed the Diamond Canyon—Sato's plan to seek out a suitable Aron in their habitat had to be abandoned.

Still, there was a silver lining: although he hadn't found a suitable Slakoth or Aron, Sato did discover a Grass-type starter Pokémon with excellent potential.

While exploring the northern region of the mysterious island, Sato stumbled upon a valley not marked on any map.

Due to the terrain, this valley was almost completely isolated from the outside world—accessible only through a narrow path hidden behind a waterfall.

Sato only discovered it by accident while chasing a rare herd of Gogoat. The hidden path behind the falls led to a secret garden built by an entire community of Grass-type Pokémon, led by a level 83 high Elite Four level Venusaur.

There, Sato encountered a Bulbasaur who longed to see the outside world.

But this Bulbasaur was no ordinary one—she was a direct descendant of the Venusaur leader and possessed excellent stats along with several powerful Grass-type moves.

These included moves like Grassy Terrain, Leaf Storm, and Power Whip.

Sato was overjoyed when he found this Bulbasaur in the secret garden. But the moment he tried to catch her, he realized he had kicked a hornet's nest.

In this garden—practically a kingdom of Grass-types—the Bulbasaur was like a little princess. Trying to take her away was like challenging the wrath of the entire realm.

Soon, the whole garden of Grass-type Pokémon swarmed out to attack.

Despite Sato and Thomas giving it everything they had, they were still effortlessly captured by the high Elite Four level Venusaur.

It was, without question, the most dangerous situation Sato had ever faced. If not for the Bulbasaur, who longed for adventure and spoke up for him, having taken a liking to Sato, he might never have made it out alive.

In the end, after passing a series of hellish trials imposed by the high Elite Four level Venusaur, Sato finally earned its approval. He not only kept his life but also earned the right to bring the adventurous Bulbasaur with him.

Currently, Sato and Thomas were in a place called the Withered Forest.

This location marked the entrance to the central region of the mysterious island. Wild Pokémon here were almost all in the level 40–50 range, with the occasional pseudo Elite Four level or Elite Four level Pokémon appearing.

As Sato's Pokémon continued to grow stronger, the wild Pokémon in the island's outer zones no longer provided sufficient training.

What's more, ever since Swampert and Red Shiny Gyarados earned a fearsome reputation, most wild Pokémon in the outer zones began avoiding battle altogether—no matter how much Sato provoked them.

With little choice, and eager to raise his team's strength before the trial ended, Sato ventured into the perilous central region of the island.

In truth, most wild Pokémon lived in the outer regions. In the center, their numbers thinned—but their strength soared.

It was almost a rule: any wild Pokémon in the central zone had to be at least level 40.

Seeing a Pokémon under level 40 here was rare—and if you did see one, you had to be extremely cautious. If they could survive here at a lower level, it meant they had the power to fight above their weight class.

To Sato, the central region seemed like a training ground for elite wild Pokémon seeking further evolution and strength.

Most were loners—former elites of outer-region groups who had come to the center to train and grow stronger.

As such, these Pokémon were far more cunning and aggressive than your average wild Pokémon.

Two days ago, Sato and Thomas had entered the central region. But within half a day, they were forced into a messy retreat—ambushed by a furious Elite Four level wild Pokémon who'd apparently just woken up on the wrong side of the bed.

Thankfully, Thomas's Magnezone used Thunder Wave to paralyze it temporarily, and Weezing deployed Smokescreen to help them escape.

Now—

"Lord Sato, I think we're surrounded again. What do we do—fight or flee?" Thomas asked in a low, tense voice as he stood back-to-back with Sato, scanning the twitching grass around them.

Even as he spoke, his hands were already gripping the PokéBalls of Magnezone and Weezing tightly.

Before Sato could answer, a snarling Weavile suddenly leapt from the grass on Thomas's right, its metallic claws gleaming as it swiped viciously at his head.

At the same time, a sharp tremor ran through the ground beneath Sato, and a jagged spike burst from the earth—aimed directly at a vital point.
