Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The begining
You all know how these things start, most of the time it's just someone waking up in the darkness where they meet a rob to get powers, got accidently killed by higher power being and transmigrate to another world or filled up some form of power CYOA and then sent to that world. The same thing happened to me, well... almost the same.
My name is Max Anderson, a university graduate and a simple guy, 183 cm tall, not fat or skinny, have muscles from working at the gym 5 days a week to stay healthy, but not too big. And I know hearing my last name made you laugh or at least made your remember a scene from the movie matrix, believe me I know, but hey this is not the story of a guy stuck in society where he wants to be a hero and change it, it's the story of a 25 year old guy who suddenly got his life turned upside down. And how you may ask, it all started not too long ago, basically it started yesterday when I came back home, tired from trying to find myself a job.
After having dinner and reading some novels and Fanfic's I suddenly received an email, "Hello, can you complete this please?"
That was the subject for the new email I had gotten, which was new. Usually I received spam, newsletters, special offer, and other crap but this was a first for me. But I didn't just click on it, oh no I, first checked the email and who the sender was, [email protected], So I decided to check it out, I turned off my WIFI, my antivirus should be able to handle it, if it's a virus, and besides this pc had nothing discriminating inside it.
With a tap the email was opened and it took a sec for me to realize what I was looking at.
"What"
Someone had emailed me a CYOA pic, the Worm CYOA thing, the one where you pretty much had access to getting powers that could break the entire setting unless you chose to go skitter mode and even then you could become as OP and broken as fuck. I had filled my fare share of Interactive CYOA's in my life.
So for those who don't know, CYOA or Choose Your Own Adventure pic were usually big images containing info and which asked you to make choices that were present on the thing, a creative exercise if you will.
The thing itself was somewhat interesting if you considered the setting of the CYOA. The Worm-verse was in my opinion one of the dark verses and was pretty grim as far as superhero stories went, like the marvel cancer verse or the zombie verse. I'd never actually read the webnovel as a whole, but I've read like a dozen or so worm fanfics so I knew how the general plot went, maybe some specifics and details, but nothing like people who know it like the back of their hand. Sure I read novels, fanfics, mangas, hentai, pornhwa, manhwa, movies, tvseries, games, but I'm not a neet.
Now having seen the CYOA thing before, I scrolled down to find a short message.
"Please work through the thing and reply with your choices. Thank you for your time"
I couldn't help but be curious about what this was all about. Sure it seemed pretty strange that someone would send me this and ask me what I'd choose but honestly I didn't really see any reason to not do it. Sure I could just delete it and forget about it but I was curious to why go all this trouble. But I liked interactive CYOA's, and I figured that at worst, I'd get more spam mail.
As it was a picture and not the online version I opened a new tab and a notepad, I began working out what my choices were.
The basic idea of the Worm CYOA was simple. You get sent to the worm-verse and given utterly broken powers, companions, perks, and complications for more points to spend on powers, perks and companions. Then, depending on what you chose, you simply had to survive the worm-verse. But my picture was different, the section in the picture for how I ended up in the worm-verse, was circled. I don't know why but hey I don't care either way, so I had the three options: self-insert, reincarnation, and Endbringer, which were basically how you choose to get there.
Self-insert was what it was. you get dropped off in an alley somewhere in Brockton Bay three days before the story starts and all you have with you are a set of clothes, a hundred bucks, and whatever else you get from spending points.
Reincarnation was obvious. You get reborn as someone in Earth Beta and you get to control your gender, appearance, race and who your family is. You can't do major changes to the setting, only minor ones that is accounted from your presence and new life. You could also choose when you got your powers and whatever perks you could buy with points up till the start of the story. In video game terms, it was like making a new character and deciding their traits, nationality, family and then inserting your memories into whatever moment of their life you choose, with you in control.
Endbringer. Now that was a doozy. Instead of waking up in an alleyway or to a new life, you get turned into an Endbringer, monsters of incredible power and destruction. As an Endbringer, your body would be really tough, only getting tougher as you got deeper to the point of warping space and physics just to make whatever an Endbringer's body is made out of even more denser and harder. If that wasn't bullshit enough, you also got regeneration with only a core being your only real weak point and even that required it to be completely destroyed if you were to become an Endbringer. You get to keep your memories, free will and sense of self as well as choose your new form. Any powers you choose would be made even more broken.
Yeah. Endbringer sounded really tempting, they are strong and big but I like my Humanity too much to lose it. I mean if it was something like vampire or werewolves then I would consider it but not like this. Also most worlds have a shoot on site on extraterrestrials and then being so big was just painting a large target on your back when in most tv series/movies/anime/manhwa being that can erase you with just a snap of a finger exist.
