Chapter 159: Lucian's Passionate and Hate-Filled Words
"I say, we raid their families' homes and interrogate them. I don't believe they didn't know about their plans of assassinating Young Master Wang Chen."
Just then, as everyone was mulling over their own thoughts, a sudden, passionate, and hate-filled voice erupted from one of the special guests. Read new adventures at empire
The audience's expressions turned serious, as they turned their heads in the direction of the voice. But when they laid their eyes on the source of the voice, some of them could not prevent their lips from twitching.
The source of the passionate and hate-filled words came from none other than Lucian, who was reclined in his chair with one leg over the other and one of his hands resting behind his head. There was a bucket of popcorn nestled between his legs.
He looked as though he was watching a theatrical performance, rather than a serious discussion about betrayal and assassination.
Despite Lucian's relaxed posture, his expression was one of unmistakable hatred.
Meanwhile, James, Fenwick, and the members of Lion's Liver were left speechless, as none of them expected Lucian to say such words. His passionate, hate-filled words from earlier and his furious expression made them doubt if he was clueless about the truth behind Wang Chen's death like the rest of the audience. But his relaxed posture said otherwise.
Lily, on the other hand, was biting her lips to prevent her giggles from escaping. Fortunately for her, her Big Brother Lucian's Mana Bubble kept the sounds from escaping, and her mask prevented her expression from being seen.
[Big Brother Lucian, you're too naughty!] Lily giggled.
Lucian did not respond to Lily. His face remained furious.
If Lily did not know Lucian was not related to the Wang Family, she would have believed his expression was genuine.
'Him again?' Number One frowned behind his mask, but outwardly, he let out a deep sigh, "Sadly, these vile creatures had made plans for their families before they set out on their journey to Fire Cloud City. They left the city in batches. However, the guards stationed at the four gates didn't suspect them.
After all, how could they suspect them to be involved in Young Master's death when even Master didn't know his beloved son was dead."
Just after Number One finished speaking, a beautiful middle-aged woman from the Wang Family row stood up, and announced, "Before you all leave, we, the Wang Family, would appreciate it if you take the pictures of the criminals' families with you. If you can find their whereabouts, you will be given a hundred Low-Grade Mana Stones per person located.
If you can kill them and bring their corpse back, you will be rewarded with 500 Low-Grade Mana Stones per corpse. However, if you can bring them back alive, the reward will be 1 Mid-Grade Mana Stone."
"The same rules apply to the assassin, who we learned from torturing the twenty scum that he belongs to an Assassin Organization known as Midnight Shadow Devils."
She was none other than Wang Jiangsu, Wang Chen's mother.
Suddenly, her teary expression morphed into palpable hatred, as she said, "But first, to properly send off my beloved son, we will use their blood as the final offering."
In an instant, the atmosphere turned silent and oppressive.
*Bang*
*Bang*
*Bang*
Loud bangs sounded after the oppressive pressure from the Second Layer Mana Soul Realm Mage, Number One, engulfed the twenty former guards behind him, forcing them to kneel with their heads hanging down.
"Begin the execution."
As Number One's cold voice echoed in the surroundings, twelve women and eight men from the Wang Family row jumped up onto the platform with large, heavy swords.
'A funeral turned into an execution?' Lucian tossed the last remaining popcorn into his mouth as he muttered indifferently. 'This Wang Family truly knows how to put on a good show for their guests. I could learn a thing or two from them.'
Despite feeling amused at the show, Lucian turned his head away from the spectacle and looked at Lily.
[Lily, are you scared?] He asked her with a worried tone, causing Lily to blush in embarrassment and tenderness.
Lily shook her head and replied after a moment. [Lily, is not scared!]
At that precise moment, the twenty people from the Wang Family looked at each other and nodded.
Subsequently, they raised their swords above their heads while channeling their Mana into their swords.
*Bzzz*
*Bzzz*
*Bzzz*
A series of crisp buzzing filled the air as the Mana-infused swords began to vibrate, and at the same time, terrifying killing intent burst out from the executioners.
Their eyes were cold and filled with killing intent, ready to carry out the final judgment on the twenty traitorous guards.
A moment later, the twenty executioners moved in perfect sync and slashed their swords vertically down.
*Woosh*
Twenty sharp and deadly white arcs of light shot out of their swords, sliced through the air, and in one swift motion, the heads of the twenty traitorous guards were severed from their bodies.
Warm blood sprayed into the air and fell on the executioners and the white platform.
Lucian's eyes followed the lifeless heads as they fell on the platform and rolled for a few seconds before stopping.
The once beautiful memorial platform was dyed in scarlet blood.
'This family… really knows how to keep things interesting. They started by spilling Wang Chen's blood and ended it with a bunch of random people's blood.' Lucian muttered as he glanced between Number One and Wang Jiangsu.
Lucian could not tell what Number One was thinking because the mask he was wearing blocked his expression.
However, the same could not be said about Wang Jiangsu. The faint flicker of excitement and bloodthirst in her black eyes did not escape Lucian.
Sometime later, Number One signaled at the surrounding guards and ordered, "Take their bodies and hang them up on the Manor walls for all of Harmony City to see and to shrivel up under the scorching heat of the sun."
Despite feeling disgusted, twenty guards stepped up onto the platform, covered the lifeless bodies in their Mana, hoisted them onto their shoulders, and left the courtyard to carry out the task.
Once the bodies were taken away, Number One continued, "Now then, let's continue with the funeral."
—---------------
Half an hour or so later, the funeral concluded after the burning of Wang Chen's body and the casket he was laid in, while his ashes were carried away by the wind.
According to Lily, it was a tradition in Harmony City to cremate the deceased and let their ashes scatter to the winds, symbolizing their return to the world and the release of their Soul.
At that moment, Lucian and Lily were calmly following behind James and the rest toward Dragon Phoenix Auction House while listening to their heated conversation about the funeral.
[I never knew funerals could be so exciting!] Hervy laughed as soon as they left the courtyard.
James glanced at him and smirked, [Didn't I tell you all the event would be interesting?]
Hervy stopped walking, glanced behind him at Lucian, and said, [The best part was Chef Lucian's acting!]
[I was almost fooled if I wasn't familiar with your personality.] He added with a grin.
[Of course, it was an act just like the act the Wang Family put on.] Lucian shrugged nonchalantly. [I'm just glad I made popcorn for the theatrical performance.]
[Haah. Chef Lucian, please don't remind me about the popcorn.] Hervy sighed with a dazed expression as he recalled the taste.
Lucian furrowed his brows at Hervy. [Why, did you not like it?]
The others were equally confused and shot Hervy weird gazes.
[How is that possible? Anything Chef Lucian makes is delicious. It's just the portion size is too small.] Hervy quickly explained the misunderstanding.
[Next time, you'll get to eat you're fill.] Lucian simply said as he continued to walk.
Hearing his words, the others became excited as their thoughts briefly traveled to the deliciously tasting Garlic Butter and Herb Popcorn.
Harmony City was a gigantic city, spanning many miles. As they walked without the assistance of Movement Skills, their journey to the Dragon Phoenix Auction House was taking longer than necessary, especially with the crowd from Wang Chen's funeral dispersing and returning to their homes and jobs.
After a long minute of silently walking, Fenwick asked James, [Sir James, do you know if they are auctioning fresh Magical Beast blood with healing properties today?]
In that instant, Lily and Garrett's heart rate accelerated and they turned in James' direction with a hopeful gaze.
Fresh Magical Beast blood with healing properties was one of the main ingredients for the Mana Vein Restoring Potion. Of course, the Magical Beast blood had to be of a specific Grade. Specifically, the blood had to belong to a Grade 7 Magical Beast, which was equivalent to a Mana Soul Realm Mage.
Anything above Grade 7 would be too potent for their mother, while anything below Grade 7 would be useless, as the efficacy of the potion would not be enough to help their mother, who was once a Mana Soul Realm Mage.
