Chapter 205: Flabbergasted
As Yoshiko began explaining, Lucian quickly realized he was wrong in his conjecture. Lily did not go overboard at the auction, she had a reason to spend that much.
However, either scenario would have been fine with Lucian. He would not have minded. Money, at the end of the day, was temporary, it could always be earned. If one did not spend money, then what was the point of earning it? To horde it like a greedy Dragon just for someone to come by and rob them of their wealth?
As long as Lily had fun, then that was all that mattered. And judging by the way she had skipped to Yoshiko's office, it was clear to him that the little chaos creator had loads of fun.
Furthermore, it was not as though he did not make gains from this trip. The potential long-term business contract with Yoshiko, four Grade 1 Magical Beasts, a map to a Secret Realm, and lastly, he acquired a subordi… a disciple made the trip worth it.
In fact, his gains did not stop just there, there was still the newly acquired Grade 7 Phoenix Rebirth Tea Recipe, a Star Essence, and the Quests, Restaurant Expansion, and Disciple Recruitment, which he had yet to complete. Once he completed the Quests, he would receive tremendous rewards.
Now that Lucian thought about it, his trip to Harmony City was far more valuable than he could have ever imagined.
Soon, Yoshiko finished explaining, and although she had more to say, seeing as Lucian seemed to be absorbed in his thoughts, she returned to sipping on her tea.
Meanwhile, Lucian was silent for a few moments before he turned to Lily.
[You trust me quite a bit, don't you?]
His words were cryptic, but Lily understood what her Big Brother Lucian meant.
Without having to ponder, Lily responded with absolute confidence, [Lily believes if anyone can unseal the Runic Formation, it would be Big Brother Lucian. That's why Lily bought it.]
Suddenly, Lily's expression became
worried. [Big Brother Lucian isn't mad at Lily, is he?]
In response, Lucian shook his head. [Of course not. How could I be mad when you think so highly of me? Besides, I can always earn Low-Grade Mana Stones. What matters is that you had fun and that you believe in me. That's what's important.]
While sweetness filled Lily's heart, as though she tasted her Big Brother Lucian's Berry Blast, Lucian returned his attention to Yoshiko.
"About the Soul Oaths, I'm ready to take them."
Upon hearing this, Yoshiko's expression became solemn. She then gave her tea cup to Mei and then stood up.
"Follow me. Besides the Souls Oaths, I have more information to provide."
Realizing Yoshiko wanted privacy, James eyed the rest of their group, indicating for them to remain sitting.
None of them had objections, so they remained sitting. Though with Lily's face hidden behind a mask, it was unclear how she truly felt.
However, Lucian did not share the same sentiment as James.
"I don't mind going with you, Branch Leader. However, please allow her to come with us." Lucian said the final sentence while pointing at Lily.
Yoshiko raised an eyebrow at those words before she shifted her gaze between the two and remained silent for a few moments.
"Is she that important to you?"
'She's trying to get information about our relationship. But I don't care.' Lucian indifferently mused before saying simply, "Yes."
Yoshiko glanced at him and then at the masked old woman. A moment later, she shrugged, "As long as she takes the same Soul Oaths, I don't mind her presence."
Lucian nodded. "She will. Thank you, Branch Leader."
Lily smiled, but her radiance was blocked by the mask. Realizing this fact, Lily expressed her gratitude by bowing slightly and saying "Thank you."
Yoshiko acknowledged their gratitude with a slight nod, and with that, led them to another room.
Once inside the room, Yoshiko locked eyes with Lucian first and then looked at the mask-wearing old woman. She then, sternly said, "Before I begin, you both must swear on your Souls that everything discussed in this room remains a secret."
She continued, "You must understand, what I am about to say goes beyond simple business dealings or contracts. If mishandled, my life would be in jeopardy, and in turn, I will make your lives even worse. This is not a matter to be taken lightly."
'Interesting. What is this woman hiding that she doesn't want others to know?'
However, Lucian's expression remained indifferent.
On the other hand, Lily nervously gulped and inched closer to her Big Brother Lucian. The threatening words said by Branch Leader Yoshiko frightened her, making her feel it might not have been the right decision to follow her Big Brother Lucian here.
But as quickly as she thought that, she quickly steeled herself because deep in her heart she knew if she wanted to stay by her Big Brother Lucan's side, she had to become stronger — physically and mentally.
Unaware of Lily's thoughts, Lucian simply patted her hand, which was tightly clutching his chef's uniform.
"I swear on my Soul that I will keep the secrets shared within this room until the day Branch Leader Yoshiko grants me permission to share them with others."
As each word left Lucian's lips, Runic Symbols materialized around him.
"I will uphold the integrity of this Oath, bound by my word and my Soul. Should I disclose any information, may my Soul shatter into fragments and vanish from existence."
With the last word spoken, the Runic Symbols glowed brightly.
Yoshiko was flabbergasted by his straightforward and poisonous Oath that she almost overlooked the obvious tender hand clutching Lucian's chef's uniform.
'She's young… No! What the Hell is with this young man? Who makes such a poisonous Oath and doesn't even react before, during, or afterward? Doesn't he understand the consequences of what he said?' Experience tales at My Virtual Library Empire
But what came next was equally shocking, if not more surprising, than Lucian's Oath.
