Chapter 210: Unusually Serious
'Anti Detection Runic Formation, not bad.' Lucian was pleased with Carlton's consideration.
He, then, looked at Lily and smiled, "Go ahead and eat."
Lily stiffened and after a few moments said, [But Big Brother Lucian, Duan Mu is still in the room.]
It was a valid concern. While it was true Duan Mu was her Big Brother Lucian's disciple, that did not mean he was trustworthy, or at the very least that he would not leak her identity to the public.
Lily did not want to bring tragedy to her family.
"You don't have to worry about your identity being leaked by him," Lucian said, and then glanced at Duan Mu. "Isn't that right?"
Duan Mu blinked. He was clueless about the conversation taking place. He felt like there were many pieces missing. But he was not in the mood to ask. At the moment, his attention was on the deliciously smelling and visually appealing dishes.
Unfortunately, he had to wait.
"Master and… eh…" He paused, only now realizing he did not know what to call the masked woman. "Mistress?" He guessed.
Though it was a guess, it was not without a basis, and judging by the way the masked woman fidgeted after he spoke, Duan Mu became even more assured of his guess.
"Mistress, you have nothing to fear. I will never betray Master, nor those close to him."
Lucian nodded at him; once again pleased by this disciple of his.
"If you still don't trust him, you can ask him to swear a Soul Oath to keep your identity a secret," Lucian suggested.
However, what neither Lily nor Duan Mu knew was that a Soul Oath was unnecessary. When the Master-Disciple Ceremony had been completed, a Loyalty Brand was silently placed in his Soul.
It was neither harmful nor did it control his thoughts or behavior. Duan Mu was the same cripple Lucian met outside of Dragon's Feast Restaurant. The only effect of the Loyalty Brand was it displayed Duan Mu's loyalty.
The System had only recently revealed this to Lucian, and now as he glanced above Duan Mu's head, he saw a small glowing number floating there — 90, representing the high level of loyalty his disciple had for him.
Though the loyalty was primarily directed toward Lucian, it extended, in a way, to those he valued.
It was just as Duan Mu had said, "I will never betray Master, nor those close to him."
Had he lied, his loyalty would have decreased, yet it remained the same.
Meanwhile, Lily was stuck in a dilemma. She trusted her Big Brother Lucian just as much as she trusted her family and her brother's friends. But that trust was built upon after years.
And even though her inborn instincts were saying he was a good person. She could not take chances. Not when it concerned her family.
On the other hand, Lily was worried it would hurt her Big Brother Lucian's feelings if she asked his disciple to swear a Soul Oath.
It would be no different than saying, 'Lily doesn't trust your judgment, Big Brother Lucian.'
Lucian, noticing Lily had been silent with her head down for quite some time now, to an extent, understood the dilemma she was going through.
"Lily, Duan Mu's loyalty to me is true. I trust him."
Lucian paused and then continued, "But I also understand that you fear your identity will be exposed. So if it will make you feel safer, I will have him swear a Soul Oath."
After a brief silence, Lucian turned to Duan Mu, "Duan Mu, if you think of me as your Master, swear a Soul Oath to never reveal the identity of the young girl beside me. If you do so, your Soul will shatter, and you will cease to exist."
Duan Mu shivered and nervously gulped. Like any resident of Arcadia, he understood the gravity of such a Soul Oath.
'Master is being serious.' Duan Mu thought as a cold shiver ran down his spine.
At that moment, the always indifferent Master in his head was actually wearing an unusually serious expression. It was kind of scary.
'Even after I became Master's disciple, he didn't ask me to swear a Soul Oath to never betray him. He started training me right away, without hesitation… yet…' Duan Mu glanced at the supposedly young girl. 'This masked young girl…'
After another few moments of silence, Duan Mu said, "I understand, Master."
He took a deep breath, then spoke, "I, Duan Mu, swear upon my Soul and existence to never reveal the identity of the young girl, who is sitting beside my Master. Should I betray this Oath, may my Soul be shattered."
As soon as he said the last word, the Runic Symbols surrounding his figure combined and flew into his Soul.
Even after the Soul Oath, the number representing Duan Mu's loyalty did not falter. It remained at 90.

'He admires me quite a lot. That's good.'
It would have been quite problematic if his disciple's loyalty decreased after the incident. Even though it would have been justifiable. After all, as his Master, he should trust him, yet he asked him to swear a Soul Oath.
"Master, can we eat now?" Duan Mu suddenly said.
Lucian blinked.
'Or he's too hungry to care.' But after a second thought, Lucian figured it was a combination of both Duan Mu's admiration for him and his senses dominated by the food.
Lucian nodded.
"Go ahead. Eat to your heart's content." He then pushed his plates and wine cup to the middle of the rectangular table.
Seeing this, Duan Mu's excited smile stiffened.
"Is Master not going to eat?"
Lucian shook his head in response to his question.
"No. You and Lily can eat my food. I'm satisfied with drinking just the fruit juice. But remember to share."
'Lily. So that's Mistress' name.' Duan Mu glanced at the masked young girl, wondering if she was finally going to remove her mask. 'Purity…'
