Chapter 533 A gamble
Alex felt a chill run down his spine like he had never felt before when he locked eyes with the planet sized creature.
However, strangely Alex didn't feel any hostility from it. In fact, he could sense a myriad of emotions coming from the beast's gaze, but the most prominent one was curiosity.
'Wait… hypothetically, if this planet was this creature's egg, then wouldn't that make it a newborn?'
A thought provoking question crossed his mind, despite the immense pressure he was feeling. And then another piece of information he had heard about briefly a while ago, before becoming an awakened even, surfaced in his mind.
'There are stories of people being able to tame beasts and creatures, as long as they were born in the normal universe of course, by being the first living being they see when they are born… does that mean?'
Alex's mind raced with both exhilaration and anxiety as he considered the implications of what he had just thought. Meanwhile the planet sized creature continued eyeing him up, not even taking a glance around itself to check out its other surroundings.
The pressure from its gaze felt like it could crush him to a pulp at any moment, yet it held no malice whatsoever.
However, at that exact moment, Alex felt something enter the range of his spatial perception.
It came from above, and Alex's heart skipped a beat when he recognised what it was.
"Mira!"
It wasn't out of excitement that he shouted her name — it was out of fear and worry. He looked up above himself, only to find Mira floating chaotically in the void of space. Her face was slowly turning blue from the lack of any oxygen.
The creature he stood on was so humongously massive that it had its own gravity, and it was slowly pulling Mira towards itself.
But that wasn't the biggest issue. The most prominent problem was that she was going to run out of oxygen at any moment!
'Fuck! I'm coming Mira!'
Making use of his new ability to fly, Alex put all his strength into his legs and leaped off the back of the huge beast, creating a shockwave in the little amount of air that remained around the beast, and he flew towards Mira's floating body at a speed almost equal to a ship.
In just a few seconds, he caught Mira in his arms, but that was only the first step of solving the problem.
He placed his mouth on hers, transferring the little bit of air he had in his lungs over to Mira, before summoning his ship out of his spatial storage to gently place Mira inside of. She had already lost consciousness by this point, so time was pressing.
Unknown to Alex though, throughout that whole short ordeal, the gargantuan creature's gaze never left him. It tracked and followed him the entire time, and watched curiously as he caught and saved Mira from imminent death.
Althea looked over at this scene and couldn't stop the look of relief from crossing her eyes, and her rage against the enemy S tier Lux gradually lessened now that she realised Mira was safe.
With Mira now out of harms way – or Alex hoped, considering the other situation at hand — he turned his attention back to the one thing that everyone present kept their gaze trained on the entire time.
The huge beast.
He clenched his fists, and decided to take the gamble of once again landing back onto the huge creature's body.
This move shocked both sides of the war that were watching from above, confusing Althea and her sister Isla, and even Olgierd, who stood aside Isla to help her fend off against the S tier Lux, as he had already killed the Lux that set out to fight him.
'Is he crazy??'
'What the fuck is he thinking!?'
Meanwhile, the Lux all had wide smiles on their faces as they awaited Alex's demise. To them, this could only be the most stupid act of bravery they had ever seen. Not even they, a more established race in both the universe and the Primordial Expanse, had any clue what kind of creature this was, so they definitely wouldn't be doing something as bold as Alex.
But regardless of what they thought, Alex had other things on his mind.
'From the fact I feel no malice from it, I'm willing to take this gamble!'
Alex's mind once again brought him back to those rumours and stories of Awakened taming beasts in the normal universe, despite the fact that he had never actually witnessed any such awakened in person.
There were two reasons he decided to do this – number one being that those rumours had to have stemmed from somewhere, and he believed that even if they were twisted and changed through time, they still had to have held some truth to them.
But his main reason for this arguably suicidal and stupid move was that what difference would a few tens of hundred thousands of kilometres make?
From the fact that the S tiers all looked worried and anxious facing the huge thing, he doubted that he could rely on them to save him, or even themselves when facing this beast.
Alex had felt the full pressure of Principal Farnes' aura many times, and even that didn't compare to the aura of the creature that he was feeling. This told him that even if Principal Farnes was there, he couldn't even rely on him.
So considering all this, his only solution was that he had to rely on himself alone.
"Alright…" Alex muttered under his breath.
"Let's not mess this up…"
He approached the creature's face cautiously, maintaining his speed the whole journey there as it wasn't like meeting a normal creature face to face. The thing was literally the size of a mid sized moon, so it took him a few seconds to arrive in front of its eyes.
When he landed, the creature still didn't move, keeping its eyes trained on him the whole time.
'I get why it may be looking at me because I'm the first living being it saw, but what is so special about me that it is still looking at me even now?'
Alex was confused a little bit about the situation, but with no way to communicate with the beast, and with little hopes of achieving this either since it was a newborn, he could only suppress his worries for the time being.
