Chapter 177: ID
Just as this announcement was made, two policemen with guns strapped to their waist stepped into our section of the train and immediately they began moving from one individual to the other.
When the policemen stepped in, every eye moved to them, several people sporting frowns that told of how unusual this situation was.
"Is this normal?" I asked Ava who was sitting ahead of me
When the announcement had come, Ava's face had been one of surprise, no other expression readable from it and when the policemen had stepped in, she had turned towards them.
With Ava's position, I couldn't study her expression as she stared at the enforcement officers, but that was okay, I had mental to detect intent.
"No it isn't "She answered turning back to me after some seconds.
"I guess something major happened."
"Oh," I replied a bit of worry on my face.
"So, how many women have you slept with" the blonde repeated and I seriously had to focus my gaze on her because, "What was she on!!."
"Ava now isn't the time. Remember that I have neither an identity document nor a ticket." I strongly whispered.
Of course, not everyone on the train had on them an ID but they all had a ticket and the legendary British accent.
"Of course, I remember, but I figured, if I'm going to play as your wife, then it's vital I know your body count."
"Huh"
The implication of the woman's words completely threw me for a spin and my mind strained as it sought the relationship between her act and my body count.
"Well what is it, be quick, I need to get into character." She whispered, glancing towards the policemen who were already reaching our position and for this question I decided to be honest.
"I honestly don't know. I was somewhat wild in my teenage days."
My answer put a bit of surprise in Ava's eyes but she quickly shrugged and shifting closer to me placed her shoulder on mine, letting her body rest on mine.
Not needing to be told a thing, I also moved closer and put my right hand around her watching as she rummaged through her bag.
"They're almost here" I whispered in her ears.
"I know, just stay in character" she whispered handing me her ticket " I'm looking for my ID"
In no time, one of the two policemen was in front of us and as he arrived, Ava with an apologetic smile made one final search in her bag and a second later victoriously brought out her card.
"I'm not with my ID officer, but this is my work ID, will it do."
Reaching out, the officer took her card and when he returned it to her and turned to me, Ava mentioned.
"He's my husband."
Picking up from where she started, I explained my sorry situation to the officer telling him he could meet with one of the ticket inspectors to confirm my words.
Not up to a minute passed before the officer let me go and Ava who was by the side looked at me with a smile.
"You were quite calm I like that honey" she said grabbing my cheek and pulling on it playfully.
"Why do I feel like you're enjoying this."
"Because I am, I've never lied to an officer before, this was kind of fun," she whispered to me.
I don't know how many officers were brought to the station, but in less than 10 minutes the train screeched as it began moving once more and several murmurs filled the carriage.
"I'm really curious what that was about. Perhaps we should have asked the officers" Ava said pressing her back to my chest, still in character and then suddenly she pushed away and turned to me with a bright smile.
"Did you have any teacher you wanted to fuck back in high school because I had like three and one of them was a female?"
Ava resumed her usual antics and I could only sigh internally as the woman bombed me with questions.
It was an almost 4 hours ride and by my count only an hour and 30 mins had gone by.
As the minutes went by the train stopped at two different stations and at each of these stops, more of the people who were on the train with us, departed and a few people got on board.
"We have arrived at Leamington spa station, please...….."
This announcement stunned Ava out of her interrogation of me and quickly she reached for her phone.
"Excuse me, I'll be back quick, I need to give someone something, she said getting up but before she could move, I grabbed her arm and pulled her back to her seat.
"Marcus, this is serious, the train will soon get moving, she said looking at me in confusion while her hand went into her bag, searching for something.
"You'll mail it tomorrow," I told her.
Like a switch had been flicked the atmosphere between us lost its cordiality I and Ava found ourselves looking into each other's eyes with intensity.
Suddenly the woman's right hand shot towards my face, but with speed which she could not see, my right hand shot out and ripped the object she had in her hand while my left which was to my side and hidden by both our coats pressed the head of a deadly object to her side.
Ava froze at the feel of a gun against her body, and I calmly looked at the object I had taken from her.
"Pepper spray" I looked at the woman.
"What do you want" she asked calmly.
"You asked what they do in America to create the likes of me, now I wonder, what do they do in England to make women as nosy as you."
"Your acting is quite good" I praised, putting the pepper spray in the pocket of my coat.
Ava gave no reply to my words, but I wasn't worried, I had an idea where I would get my answers.
"Let me see your work ID"
Ava did not flinch at my words instead she remained calm and acquiescing without resistance to my request, reached into her bag and brought out her ID, her eyes watching me as I studied it.
"A senior reporter, that explains a lot," I muttered
"I worked in Afghanistan for a while if it helps" the woman said and then with her usual calm and smirk looked at me curiously.
"What did you do that has the police searching even trains."
