Chapter 3: No longer weak.
Filo placed the goods on the counter.
"That will be 7 silver pieces." The trader spoke.
"Alright." Filo reached into her purse and pulled out seven silver pieces, almost all the money she had.
She placed it on the counter, and grabbed her goods before walking away.
"Thank you! Hope you come again next time!"
Filo waved her hand, but she didn't look back. Instead she sighed-
'I need to head back to our headquarters, Adonis might have woken up. I'm sure he will be worried if he found only himself there.' she thought to herself.
The dancing corpse was a small party founded by a wandering adventurer Adonis Wilson, in the kingdom of Ozario, Sikone town. Having only 4 members, they have been trying to make a living in the kingdom.
Filo happened to be one of the members, the rest were out on mission, leaving only her with their leader, Adonis Wilson.
Though...their party was well known in Saito town, and not for a good thing.
From nowhere, a group of adventures stood in front of Filo, blocking her path.
People who were walking passed the scene all ignored it, for a good reason.
"Hey there, been a while, Filo." The man in front spoke, he had long blue hair and was dressed more fashionable than the rest.
"Sean, what do you want?" Filo asked, her expression leaning towards the unfriendly side.
"Why so serious? We've known each other for so long... You can't be looking at me like that. It breaks my heart." Sean spoke, this time, his hand on her chin, moving it left and right.
He was the leader of one of the top adventurer parties in Sikone , having about 20 members in party. Due to their large number, the group were always ahead in every situation, including at the guild.
That allowed them to steal members from other parties and recruit them into their own, increasing their ranks and influence.
And somehow, Filo had managed to fall under their radar.
"Tell me, have you given much thought to what we discussed?" Sean asked, moving his face closer to hers.
"My answer is the same as the last time. No." She responded with confidence.
"What?" Sean was getting pissed.
"No matter how many people you bring to intimidate me, or how much you offer me, I won't ever be leaving Adonis 's side, not in a milli-"
"Adonis ? The rookie healer?! Serious, hahahahah!" Sean laughed.
Of course the people behind him laughed too.
"She's really still loyal to that prick?!"
"Love truly is blind! Hahah"
"I can't...this is too funny..."
...they all cracked up.
Filo's tough act was starting to slip as her eye brow began to twitch. Her strength was so little compared to Sean, she couldn't talk back...not if she wanted to leave there bruises.
"Filo, are you being hypnotized by that man? Everyone is Sikone knows how much of a failure that man is. Healers are the easiest to rank up, and yet he remains an E rank. Why stay with such a man? You're killing your talent?" Sean played with her hair as he spoke, "Enough, I'm trying to help you here. Join my party, you're much better with the big shots than some wannabe healer who's life has nothing but failure written on it."
"Take it back." Filo suddenly spoke with a low voice.
"Eh?"
"Adonis is not a failure, take it back!" This time, Filo's eyes seemed to be glowing a heavy blue light, her mana slowly surging forward.
This caught the men off guard, most of them already reaching for their weapons.
"Wowwwwww! Look at you, you already have aura? Only people higher then C rank are able to access that. You had a higher rank than that fool all this time? Such a shame. ." Sean stretched forth his hand, a sinister smile on his face -
"At first I was only taking it easy on you because I knew you were pretty, it didn't matter the strength you contributed. Having fun with that body of yours was all that I really care about. But now, I think I'll pass on that. So let me ask you again, are you willing to join my party?"
Filo sighed.
"You're really pushing me to the edge, Sean."
Sean was surprised, the expression on Filo's face had changed. It wasn't the expression of a scared girl in deed of help — she seemed different.
"I didn't want to go overboard just yet, if anything, I'd like to avoid any battle with you guys, Adonis doesn't like it when I get into fights. That said, if you think for a second I'm still the weak F rank girl I was a few days ago, then you are sorely mistaken. I am no longer an F rank, I have obtained the Rank A." Filo voiced out to them, her eyes still carrying the same blue glow.
"W..hat are you saying? You are saying you...only got to a rank higher than C rank just recently? That's impossible, no one can climb that fast...not even the special grades." Sean said, his face filled with panic.
"If you doubt me...then by all means, you are welcomed to try."
That was Filo's response as she stood before the group of five.
Sean was angered, it was clearly a direct challenge to him. His members were waiting for him to make a response.
The weak adventurer from the weakest party had just challenged him, this was the best excuse to teach them a lesson.
But..
'Something is weird here, really weird. But if I refuse to battle her here, my members will think low of me. I am Sean, I can be afraid to battle with a female!'
He desperately tried to convince himself — and it worked.
Sean raised his finger and pointed at Filo, "Fine then, challenge accepted. Don't think for one second I'll go easy on your just because you're a-"
—Baaam!!!
With just a single step, Filo had whooshed forward, punching Sean on the face so far that he went tumbling on the ground multiple times for a long time before coming to a stop inside the town's pond.
Everyone who watched had their mouth widened in shock. They didn't even see her move, all they knew was one second later, she was walking away, the dangerous expression on her face clearing.
Filo didn't care much about the people's gaze, but anyone who insults Adonis , deserved to be hurt however she sees fit.
After a few minutes, she arrived at the Dancing corpse headquarters.
It was somewhere in the secluded section in Sikone, a small run down abandoned church.
Holding the groceries, Filo made her way inside, and walked down the hall.
Until she arrived at where he was laid.
Adonis , his body resting flat on the small bed somewhere in the church.
"I'm back." Filo said with a smile, standing at the side of the bed and staring at him.
