Chapter 27: Chapter 026
Chapter 27: On What Grounds?
"Let her go!" Liu Weimin shouted hoarsely. His daughter had lost her mother at a young age, and he had raised her alone.
Due to his frequent police duties, he rarely had time to accompany her and always felt guilty about it.
In Liu Huamei's heart, although her father didn't spend much time with her, she always felt that he was her whole world!
Influenced by her surroundings, Liu Huamei had also developed a strong sense of justice.
However, upon hearing Liu Weimin's words, the people opposite tightened their grip on her even more.
Liu Weimin roared in anger: "Did you also kill those people outside?"
Seeing that the facade had been torn down, the village secretary felt there was no need to hide anything anymore.
He said with a smile, "The world is like this now. You said it yourself, there's no government anymore. What's so surprising about this?"
Hearing the village secretary's direct admission, Liu Weimin's heart turned to ashes.
Everything he had upheld for so many years seemed like a joke now. Seeing his daughter still struggling, Liu Weimin's heart was torn.
He immediately charged forward. The gun had long run out of bullets; he only had a dagger left on him.
Seeing Liu Weimin charging fiercely, the tattooed youth panicked a bit and pulled someone beside him to the front to block Liu Weimin's attack.
At this moment, Liu Weimin was on the brink of collapse. He didn't care who he was facing and stabbed directly at the person's neck.
Whoosh! Fresh blood gushed out like a fountain!
The village secretary had secretly moved to the back when Liu Weimin charged over. Seeing Liu Weimin brutally kill someone, his heart pounded.
Watching Liu Weimin not stopping after killing one person, the village secretary shouted loudly: "Stop him! Kill him, or we'll all die!"
As if awakened, everyone rushed forward. Some held hoes, some held kitchen knives, some held machetes, and some even held burning sticks.
In Liu Weimin's eyes, these people seemed non-existent. He only wanted to save his daughter!
Prompted by the village secretary, four or five people quickly surrounded him. One person swung a hoe downward, but Liu Weimin easily dodged it and quickly approached a person holding a machete.
He stabbed with his dagger again, directly at the neck, almost out of habit.
Since the apocalypse, during the rainy season, Liu Weimin and Liu Jianwen had survived among countless zombies, killing many. Sometimes, to save bullets, they would use knives.
Liu Weimin had made stabbing the neck a muscle memory.
Now, these people in his eyes seemed no different from zombies, perhaps even more detestable!
After stabbing this person, Liu Weimin quickly snatched the machete from his hand. Although the dagger was sharp, it was too short. As they say, an inch longer, an inch stronger!
Seeing Liu Weimin kill another person, the surrounding people seemed to be provoked. If they didn't stop this man, it would eventually be their turn!
So they started to swarm him. The leading tattooed youth rushed over, holding a cleaver. He exchanged glances with several people nearby, and they charged together.
Liu Weimin was, after all, just one person. Even though he had been a police officer for many years, he wasn't immortal!
He charged towards his daughter's direction with the machete, recklessly killing two more people, but his shoulder was also cut twice. However, being a police officer, he instinctively avoided vital areas.
But his back was still slashed twice, blood oozing out.
Finally approaching his daughter, the two people holding Liu Huamei seemed to react, wanting to put a knife to her throat to threaten Liu Weimin.
But at that moment, Liu Weimin threw his dagger, hitting one person right in the heart.
Liu Huamei instantly fought back, knocking down the other person, and rushed towards Liu Weimin.
After reuniting, Liu Weimin, breathing heavily, protected Liu Huamei behind him.
Liu Huamei looked at her father, his blood already soaking his coat, tears streaming down uncontrollably.
Liu Weimin didn't speak, secretly passing the car keys and flashlight to Liu Huamei, whispering: "Go, go find Liu Jianwen. Li Yu might not want to save you, but Liu Jianwen should save you for my sake!"
Although his voice was low, the tattooed man closest to him heard and shouted loudly: "Don't let them escape!"
Everyone surrounded them again. Liu Weimin, with Liu Huamei, rushed towards the door, but people were blocking it. He charged forward, swinging the machete wildly, as if he didn't care about his life.
One person was struck, while another dodged to save his life.
Liu Weimin pushed Liu Huamei out the door, but didn't expect a knife to slash at his calf from behind!
Thud! He fell to the ground, blood flowing from his calf.
But as if he felt nothing, he still leaned against the doorway.
However, the cut leg couldn't support him, and his whole body fell again, but Liu Weimin's body stubbornly blocked the doorway.
"Run quickly!" Liu Weimin shouted fiercely!
Liu Huamei's face was covered in tears. At this moment, she was extremely regretful! Why did she save these people? Why didn't she believe what Li Yu said?
But there's no use regretting now. She wanted to stay, but what use would that be? To die together?
Why not beg that person? But would he save them? She didn't know, but still held onto a glimmer of hope.
She took one last deep look at everyone, her eyes flashing with a malice she had never shown before! These people, if there's a chance in the future, must die!
She then ran down the mountain. The others wanted to rush out, but were blocked by Liu Weimin's reckless fighting at the door.
Running down the mountain, Liu Huamei fell several times on the rugged mountain path, but she had no time to care about her wounds, fearing the people behind would catch up.
Finally reaching the foot of the mountain, the car was right next to the iron fence!
But there were still two zombies under the iron fence. Liu Huamei, in a hurry to escape, felt no fear.
She directly confronted the zombies, knocking one down.
The other was catching up, but Liu Huamei had already gotten into the car.
Vroom.
The car roared to life, and Liu Huamei sped away!
On the night road, zombies occasionally appeared in front of the car.
Bang bang bang! The riot control vehicle seemed like a bulldozer on the highway!
After speeding all the way, she finally reached the wall.
From afar, Uncle Two saw lights flashing in the distance. When he saw it was the riot control vehicle, he immediately contacted Li Yu and Liu Jianwen with the walkie-talkie.
Li Yu was sleeping. Before and after his rebirth, he maintained the habit of light sleep, never changing it.
As soon as he heard the first sound from the walkie-talkie, he woke up.
He got up, got dressed, took his submachine gun and long sword.
By the time he arrived, the car had long stopped at the foot of the wall. Due to the noise of the riot control vehicle, two zombies had already surrounded it.
Uncle Two showed no expression, quietly watching Liu Huamei speak below.
"Please, save me! I was wrong, please!" Liu Huamei sobbed uncontrollably in the car below, but forced herself to speak through her choked voice.
Uncle Two looked at her coldly. Li Hongyuan was also on duty today. Hearing Liu Huamei speak below, he didn't know what to do and sighed, saying they should wait for Li Yu to decide.
Li Yu arrived, followed by Uncle Liu Jianwen.
Standing on the watchtower, seeing Liu Huamei below, he was a bit surprised but didn't speak. He wanted to hear what she had to say.
But Uncle beside him was impatient, urging Li Yu and others to open the door first and let her in.
Li Yu refused.
Uncle Two and Li Hongyuan kept their eyes, noses, and mouths to themselves, with an expression of not being involved.
Liu Huamei at the foot of the wall was crying uncontrollably, intermittently explaining what happened, but because she was too upset, her words were broken and accompanied by a thick nasal voice, unable to express clearly for a moment.
"Can't explain clearly? 10 seconds, if you're still crying, I'm going back to sleep."
Liu Huamei sobbed, took a deep breath, silently counted, forcing herself to calm down.
The series of events she experienced today seemed to make her grow up suddenly.
Soon, she stabilized her emotions and quickly and accurately described what had happened.
Then she looked at Li Yu with hope in her eyes, her gaze filled with extreme pleading.
She knew Li Yu was the one in charge.
Li Yu, upon hearing this, looked at Uncle beside him who was anxious to go down after listening. He patted his shoulder and slowly handed him a cigarette.
Then he lit a cigarette for himself and slowly exhaled.
Then he looked down at Liu Huamei, without any emotion, calmly and objectively,
He said:
"This morning,
It was you who asked me to let them in,
Now,
You're asking me to kill them and save your father,
Again, it's you,
On what grounds?"
His words stated the facts, leaving no room for argument.
