Chapter 1256: Good Night
-----
(Maria's POV)
At the end everyone ended clicking pretty well with this "sister" we had in this world. Or well, the sister of the person I am replacing, and that Arthur is replacing. It still felt kind of bad that she loved us so much and treated us so nicely. It felt like I was just tricking her, perhaps the same feeling I had with Sofia, Alma, and Emily as well.
It was a bit painful if not annoying to constantly have that in the back of my mind even when I was trying to always remain calm and just enjoy the moment while acting at the same time. Her carefree personality made it easier but still, quite annoying.
Nonetheless, it already got quite late, so after we ate dinner we cooked together, I quickly decided to act my part and bring my sister to her room.
"Would you help me take a shower, Maria?" she asked timidly, she felt embarrassed asking such a thing.
"O-Of course," I nodded.
I couldn't really reject her or something, she was assigned as my sister, and honestly she was a very good person. She was also paraplegic! So she definitely needs help when going to the bathroom and stuff, most of the time.
"Thanks," she smiled gently.
I helped her by carrying her to the bathroom in my arms, she was very light, almost like a feather.
I gently sat her over a wooden chair in the middle of the big bathroom she had inside of her even larger room on the first floor of the house.
Then I turned the hot water and waited for it to get warmer.
"I'll undress myself so don't worry."
She quickly took off her shirt, then her bra, revealing her bare chest to me.
Seeing how she was my sister, she had quite the same size as mine, it was surprising how alike we were.
Though, when she revealed her chest, that wasn't really what caught my attention.
There was a red colored scar in her chest, which spread like roots across her chest and down below to her stomach and in between her breasts.
It even reached a bit of her neck, it looked like a big sting from a jellyfish or something, but this was actually related to something else.
Dream Heart Cancer, a disease which according from what I investigated, happens to one every one million Dream Warriors, and my "sister" just happened to suffer it.
Aside from the huge scar-like growth, I noticed small spurs of flesh, like little tumors, it barely was noticeable though, but they were indeed bulging.
Aside from that, her red skin in that area was semi-translucent, and I was able to see a glowing Dream Heart with cancer.
Unlike the usual normal heart-shaped form they had, this one was thrice their original size, with a weird, amorphous shape, a covered with many tiny spikes.
One of such spikes was emerging from her chest, very small, not longer than half a centimeter, but it was there.
The area around it looked to have healed already, but if it continued growing she would suffer even more.
"Hm? What's wrong?" Amelia wondered, smiling. "Oh? Interested in your big sis large breasts? I had no idea my cheeky little sister was into that… comparing sizes?"
"W-Wha…?! That's not it!" I sighed, facepalming.
"Hahah! Okay, sorry, I know why you were looking…" Amelia giggled a bit. "Yeah, a spur appeared a week ago or so… And the scarring has spread further… but I'm fine. The doctor said that I am a rare case where the cancer hasn't spread as quickly…"
"Hm…" I nodded. "Is it painful?"
"A bit… especially when I touch," she said. "But… the meds help the pain go away, and the potions too."
"I-I see…" I nodded.
Maybe I could remove the cancerous dream heart and then heal her?
Or is the cancer already spread through the rest of her body?
"Should I take the spur out somehow?" I asked.
"Somehow? We have to go to the doctor for that, Maria… Don't touch it for now," my sister said. "I have an appointment next week, don't worry. He'll shave it off well enough. It'll be painful… but I'll get drugged and go to dream land, haha."
"But what if there was a way to take it out?" I asked her.
"That's… that's not possible Maria," she said. "A Dream Heart is literally like any other organ, to remove it is to kill a person… even if I survived, the cancerous crystals are already in my bloodstream so nothing will change it… Although I am not as bad as other patients. Have you seen them? The people that grow dream heart crystals over their skin or something… I've heard it's really painful! Good thing I'm only at stage one, so no such thing will happen to me, worry not!"
"But Sofia…" I muttered.
"Sofia? What happened to her?" she asked.
"Ah, nothing…" I said.
I shouldn't really tell her these things, but…
If I told her Sofia survived losing her Dream Heart, maybe this could give her some hope?
"Anyways will you help me take off my dress?" she cried. "Come on Maria, stop staring at your sister's sexy body! you know it's a taboo to-"
"Stop saying dumb things…" I sighed. "Ok, ok, I'll help."
I quickly helped her take that shower, washing her air and her legs.
Apparently the cancer had interfered with her motion system, making it hard for her to stand up.
This is why she used a wheelchair and had a hard time moving or walking.
Apparently her bones had been deteriorating as well, so she has become quite delicate, like glass.
"Okay let's say, hypothetically…" I said.
"Hypothetically what?" she wondered.
"Okay what if I find a way to take that cancer out of you and heal you, but we have to keep it a secret," I said. "Would you… would you agree to it?"
"Hahah! What sort of nonsense are you talking about, Maria?" she laughed. "Please don't say such cruel jokes! There's no way… there's no way that's possible."
"Hm… maybe not for now, I need to investigate some more how this works," I said. "But I'll… find a way. Or try to."
"Y-You're serious?" she wondered, perplexed.
"Yes, I'm serious," I nodded, as I gently placed her over her bed. "Good night."
"Good night Maria…" she sighed. "Hah, you're gone for a few days and you start talking nonsense… this girl will never change…"
As I left and she snuggled in her bed, she started talking such things. Stay connected with My Virtual Library Empire
I guess it was normal she wouldn't believe me, I can't blame her for that, but I'll definitely find a way, somehow.
With Sofia it was already prove they can survive.
But her own process was much different, it all happened within dreams and a nightmare realm.
Somehow through their power, her dream heart turned into a nightmare, and it literally extracted itself from her.
Meanwhile as she was kept sealed within that dream, she didn't die and instead reversed to a childhood appearance.
Maybe this is what healed her? Perhaps that and… well, what she did back then, accepting the nightmares and everything.
I'll have to run some tests about this and find out myself later what can be done.
I might even have to find test subjects… somewhere.
