Chapter 22: 22: Abysmal Wolves
Ash was now very confident with the gears and provisions to go hunt. For some reason, he felt the urge to hunt a powerful Immortal Beast to assert his dominance in the area where he decided to build his own kingdom. Ash knew it wouldn't be easy, especially with dozens of powerful presence that felt like watching him from afar.
Sensing their Master's strong will to conquer the area, the Earth Drake and the young Ligress demanded him to be released from the Beast-Taming Space.
Once he did, Ash was so surprised when he saw Yinghui's fully healed leg. Not only had she regrown the amputated leg, her overall appearance was now truly beautiful and elegant. Her body looked slim and also sturdy, adorned by golden-brown scales that shone under the sun.
"Yinghui, your leg. When did you…"
Yinghui smiled gently. "My leg had been completely healed a while ago. However, you were so focused on your mediation so I refrain myself from waking you up."
On the other hand, Shanguang had also grown taller and bigger. She didn't look like a cub anymore but a Juvenile Ligress. Nonetheless, she was still a cub. Mental maturity goes along the way with experience.
"Hold on a minute." Ash had a suspicion that the time passage inside the Beast-Taming Space was much faster than the outside world. "According to your sense, how long you've been inside the Beast-Taming Space?"
"Hmm, it's hard to tell since every creature has different sense for time passage. As for me, it feels like I've spent at least three winters there." Yinghui replied. "How about you, Xiao Shan."
"About the same, I guess?"
"Is there something the matter?" Yinghui inquired scrutinizingly.
"As for me, it was only 14 days since both of you entered the Beast-Taming Space."
"Eh?!!" Shanguang almost dropped her jaw. "It doesn't makes any sense! Basically, we are getting older much faster inside the Beast-Taming Space?!"
Yinghui chuckled, amused by Shanguang's childish remark. "Immortal Beast does not grow old. That's what happened to drake and dragons, at least. We grow stronger, wiser. As long as our Beast Core remains intact, we can live for ten of thousands of years."
"Is that so? So, can we stay together like this for a really, really long time?"
"I suppose so, yes."
"Yay! Never ending adventures!"
"Whatever it is, both you look so stunning and beautiful. I am glad that everything went according to my plan."
"Indeed, Master. I am so grateful to be able to start building the enclosure now. How about you, Master?"
"I'm not really sure. Whether it's my instinct or my pent up desire for a fight. But, I'm feeling the urge to hunt a powerful Immortal Beast."
The Ligress stomped her front paws in excitement. "Master, are we going to hunt?! Please let me come with you!"
If Ash still had his finger, he would be massaging his forehead by now. "Fine. But promise me you'll listen to what I said."
"Of course, Master!"
Ash then turned to the Earth Drake, they understood each other's intention with just a nod to each other.
"We are living, Yinghui. Please take care."
"Fret not, Master. I will protect the herd at any cost." Yinghui bowed eloquently. "The enclosure will be completed by the time you have returned to this meadow. Please be safe, Master, First Sister."
"En." Ash nodded. "We are off then."
Afterward, Shanguang re-entered the Beast-Taming Space for mobility sake. It would take them days if not weeks to find a suitable beast to hunt.
However, their search ended prematurely. Not even a day toward the southward direction, Ash noticed multiple footprints of four legged Beasts amidst the forest, many of them. Judging from the various gaps, and the shape of the footprints, Ash could guess the species; Wolves. It's kinda hard to tell their exact number from the footprints alone. But Ash had a strong hunch there was a pack of them.
"Well, it's sooner than I expected."
'May I check the footprints, Master?'
Curious, Shanguang asked him to be summoned outside. When she got out, she immediately sniffed the footprints thoroughly.
"The footprints were only a few days old. How could they get so close to us unnoticed?"
"No, they have always been here before us. We are the one who entered their territory."
"Should we get out of here?" Shanguang sniffed the air, trying to pinpoint their whereabouts.
"No, it's too late. They are already here."
Suddenly, the whole forest fell silent. The once bright and shiny sky above the tree gradually turned dark. Cold, eerie wind blew gently while dozens of pairs of red eyes appeared from the shadow one after another at the same time. Low, sinister growl and nasty hisses echoed from every direction.
Though overwhelmed by fear of the unknown, the young Ligress steeled her heart. She didn't let cowardice take the best of her. She stepped frontward, digging the soil with her nails, ready to discharge 20,000 Volts into every direction.
"Not yet." Ash said. "Stay close to me."
When the Ligress stepped back, three glowing eyes appeared high above their eye level, accompanied by the sound of heavy footsteps that began to close in every second. The earth trembled slightly due to the sheer size of the Alpha Wolf.
The alpha wolf soon loomed above the two with its height, gazing at them with intense killing intent.
Soon, the Beast Taming System displayed its detailed information about the wolf after a quick analysis.
[Species: Abyssal Wolf]
[Gender: Male]
[Rarity: Rare]
[Rank: 3rd Stage Earth Rank]
[Potential Evolution Rank: Mystical Rank]
Ash, however, didn't even flinch in the slightest. This level of killing intent was not enough to scare him. He didn't even bother about the Alpha Wolf's abilities and whatnot. There's only one thing in his mind; kill it and usurp its beast core!
"A little bird, and a kitten. Walking straight into my trap." The alpha wolf spoke in a haunting voice. "Hehehe. Seems like we are going to have a feast tonight."
"It's quite the opposite, Mr. Wolf. You are trapped in here with us!"
