Chapter 51: Chapter 52: If Entangled, One Can Only Report to the Authorities

Shao He looked down on her with contempt, “I have no need to lie to you.” Having said that, she turned to leave.

Old Madam Chu, upon seeing her about to go, hurriedly rushed over to block her way, “No, today you must take the child back with me!”

Shao He, entangled by Old Madam Chu, showed frustration and displeasure in her brows, and sharply rebuked, “If you insist on taking advantage of your age, don’t blame me for being rude!”

Qingxia and Qingshan stood protectively in front of Aunt Liu, one drawing the soft sword from her waist, the other brandishing a dagger.

Old Madam Chu was startled by the sudden shout, stumbling a few steps and nearly falling to the ground, as the nanny quickly steadied her, her face full of worry.

Old Madam Chu retreated a few steps involuntarily as she looked at the fierce appearance of her and the two maids.

Pointing at her, she cursed furiously, “Unfilial wretch, I am your grandmother! You truly have no respect for your elders, not a speck of upbringing! How could the Imperial Censorate have a daughter like you!”

Shao He, holding Xiao Linzhang, flashed a mocking look in her eyes, “Old Madam seems to have forgotten that the daughter of the Imperial Censorate is already dead!”

“Indeed, she should have been dead, but look at you, still alive and well!” Old Madam Chu sneered with contempt.

“It seems Old Madam’s age has caught up with her, eyes clouded with old age. If you continue to cause a ruckus, I’ll have no choice but to report to the authorities,” Shao He was unwilling to keep arguing.

The color drained from Old Madam Chu’s face, and she sternly scolded, “I have an imperial mandate, reporting me will be of no use. I advise you to hand over the child quickly and follow me back to the mansion, and I’ll consider all this never happened.”

Shao He looked at Old Madam’s self-righteous demeanor, and scoffed inwardly at such a hypocrite.

“Old Madam is truly capable, dare you to snatch a commoner and child in public?”

If the matter escalated, it would benefit no one. She believed that Old Madam Chu did not wish to blow things out of proportion; family scandals are meant to be hidden, and this was no exception.

“You…” Old Madam, boiling with rage, pointed at her and said, “It would be best for you to obediently come back with me, or else I will destroy Anji Hall. Then, we’ll see how you settle down here!”

As Shao He listened, a chill flashed in her eyes. Indeed, the saying ‘like family, like door’ held true, their ruthless methods were exactly alike.

Old Madam Chu’s eyes were earnest and given the status of the Old Madam of Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion, she definitely had the power to demolish a small medical hall.

“Who dares to speak such nonsense with such audacity!”

Old Madam Chu turned her head to look back and saw a young man in white slowly approaching.

He was tall and slender with a proud disposition, his features fine and handsome as if he’d stepped out of a painting.

The man at his side sat in a wheelchair masked, his face unclear, yet his icy aura forced others to give way and clear a path for him.

Shao He also looked up towards the newcomer, her gaze condensing slightly. She hadn’t expected the man she hadn’t seen in a month to appear so suddenly, looking even more emaciated than before.

Yet despite his frail figure in the wheelchair, his noble aura remained undiminished.

Old Madam Chu instantly recognized the young man in white as Master Yan Ze, the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review, always at odds with the Chu family.

Why would he be following this man today? And the man next to him…

Old Madam Chu’s eyes filled with puzzled recognition, this person gave her a familiar feeling, yet she couldn’t recall where she had seen him. She scrutinized Pei Huaian, knowing at a glance that this man was of no ordinary status.

Old Madam Chu withdrew her gaze, turning instead to look at Master Yan beside her, “Is Master Yan feeling unwell, coming to this humble medical hall for treatment?”

She knew Master Yan was not one to be swayed, and it was no use confronting him harshly.

Master Yan showed a gentle smile, “I heard there was trouble here, so I came to see. Who dared to make threats in broad daylight?”

His voice was low and calm, yet laced with fury and a deadly seriousness.

Old Madam Chu’s heart skipped a beat, what did Master Yan mean by this!

Master Yan humphed coldly, continuing, “Just before I entered, I seemed to hear someone saying they wanted to destroy Anji Hall, could it have been Old Madam who said this?”

Old Madam Chu clenched her teeth inwardly, she had underestimated Shao He. Drawing a deep breath, she forced a smile.

“Master Yan misunderstands, our Chu Mansion has always abided by the law, we would never harm the common people. You must have heard wrong!”

She had never expected someone to interfere, particularly someone who disrupted her plans.

“Oh, is that so?” Master Yan glanced at her indifferently, his tone casual yet carrying an intimidating pressure.

Old Madam Chu stiffened, feeling a sharp pain in her heart. She swallowed and nodded, “Of, of course.”

Old Madam knew she should not provoke the man before her and looked to make excuses to dismiss the two of them.
