Reborn as Madokas Twin Brother

Chapter 11: A short date with Kyoko Sakura

Manaka played with his soul gem on the bed, he had already ate the grief seed he was given to by kyoko and got his hands on another wish, the magical girl made a wish to learn magic like the storybooks before she became a witch. Manaka found it intriguing but the so called magic the girl got was just creating flashy attacks using the power of imagination and energy, it was unconventional.

But if you use witch runes, that's a different story for example, what does Kriemhild Gretchen mean.

though it had no such meaning, it can be translated to Little Battle Maiden, if you use the runes and mix them with other words you create a name of a witch or in other words a 'spell' a witch that has not existed yet. a temporary being that lasts as long as one wills it to or have an insane amount of energy.

He had already went to school today but he had to leave early due to his sickness, unlike his healthy twin sister, he still have problems even after becoming half magical and half witchy. well it doesn't bother him that much anymore.

Manaka now had a dream, he knows by the end of this week he won't be human and he would most likely be forgotten...so after he saves his sister, maybe he would find a way to leave this universe though he would not know how, it seems he would need to experiment on witch runes more before it is the end of course.

But now he had to go on a date with kyoko.

He smirked slightly, standing up from the bed and stretching. It was still strange, this whole dating thing. He had confessed to Kyoko on a whim, half because he found her interesting and half because… well, he was lonely. It wasn't like it mattered in the grand scheme of things. But still, she was fun to be around. And he would also go comfort Sayaka when she will start to break down...and according to his visions it would be tomorrow, it may feel manipulative but Sayaka needs to learn a lesson, don't waste your time on someone that doesn't acknowledge your subtle hints at you liking him.

He wasn't saying Kyosuke is a bad person. it's just that he is selfish even if he doesn't know it, still they were friends and but Manaka doesn't visit him in the hospital cause he may also be forced to enter a room.

As he was about to walk out, he found himself sanding on a beach, the sand was buried underneath his toes.

The sun was chandelier hanging far away from his direction and where the being that stood a few days ago now stood a large mirror reflecting countless strange words, the words would change from hieroglyphics, Arabic, Roman, Mandarin and Katakana.

Manaka wondered why his labyrinth changed, yes he hasn't been here for a few days but he was glad that that witch thing is gone, but the words on the mirror seem to be written with those languages but they are in the form of witch runes.

Manaka took a cautious step forward, the grains of sand shifting beneath his feet. His labyrinth had always been strange, but this—this was different. The towering mirror stood in the center of the beach like an otherworldly monolith, reflecting nothing but the shifting text that twisted and reformed endlessly. The words weren't meant for human eyes, yet he could almost understand them.

Witch runes—no, something deeper than that. The language of curses, of rewritten fates.

His fingers twitched as he instinctively reached out, pressing a hand against the cold surface. The moment his skin made contact, a pulse shot through his body, and suddenly, the runes stopped shifting.

They formed a sentence.

"MANAKA. YOUR NAME IS UNFINISHED."

He stiffened, eyes narrowing. "Unfinished?" he muttered under his breath. What the hell did that mean?

The mirror rippled, and a distorted reflection of himself stared back at him. No—not quite himself. This Manaka's eyes were darker, almost void-like, and his expression was unreadable, an eerie smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.

The reflection spoke, but its voice wasn't entirely his own.

"YOU WHO DEVOUR, WHO CARRIES THE BURDEN OF WITCHES, WILL SOON LOSE YOUR NAME. WHEN YOU BECOME A CONCEPT, WILL YOU STILL BE MANAKA?"

Manaka smiled, he chuckled. "Manaka huh, my name is unfinished so what, but you think I'd just let myself become a concept, well...why don't I just try finishing my name now"

The mirror trembled at his words, the runes flickering wildly like flames caught in a storm. Manaka's smile didn't falter. If this thing—whatever it was—thought it could shake him, it was sorely mistaken.

He extended his fingers, tracing the glass with careful precision. The runes pulsed beneath his touch, responding, reacting. They weren't rejecting him. If anything, they were waiting.

He exhaled slowly. "A name unfinished… then let's write the ending, shall we?"

The moment he said it, the mirror shattered.

Not into glass—no, the pieces weren't falling, weren't breaking. They dispersed, dissolving into streams of symbols, words, fragments of a language that should not exist. They wrapped around his arm, spiraling up his body like living ink.

And suddenly, he understood.

The witch runes weren't just words. They weren't just a language. They were commands, the foundation of what made a witch real. A name wasn't just an identity—it was a definition. To name something was to give it form, to dictate its existence.

And Manaka… he had the power to write his own.

The ink-like runes burned against his skin, sinking into his flesh. His soul gem pulsed violently, but he didn't let go. He wouldn't let go.

The mirror's final message echoed in his mind.

"You who devour."

He grinned, his teeth sharp.

"Then I'll devour even the concept of myself if I have to."

The last of the runes vanished into him, and the beach around him cracked apart like a brittle dream.

When he opened his eyes again, he was standing outside. The real world.

The city was as it had always been, indifferent to whatever just happened.

And in front of him stood someone interesting well it was on the ground, kyubey who noticed his existence a long time ago finally showed up. "Manaka Kaname, what are you?".

Manaka blinked, momentarily thrown off by the question.

Kyubey sat in the middle of the empty street, its unblinking red eyes fixed on him with that same unreadable expression. No malice. No curiosity, even. Just… observation.

Manaka smirked, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "That's a funny question coming from you."

Kyubey's tail flicked. "Your soul gem is unstable, yet it does not appear to be corrupting. In fact, it is consuming its own impurities and stabilizing itself. That should be impossible."

Manaka rolled his shoulders, still feeling the phantom burn of the witch runes under his skin. "Guess I must've broken a few rules."

"That much is obvious," Kyubey replied smoothly. "Your existence is becoming anomalous. I would like to know what you intend to do next."

Manaka let out a slow breath. What did he intend to do next?

His fate was already decided—by the end of this week, he wouldn't be human. That much hadn't changed. But what had changed was the way he saw things. If names had power, if witch runes could define reality, then there was no reason he had to follow the script.

"First things first," he said. "I'm going on a date."

Kyubey blinked, seemingly caught off guard by the answer.

"Then," Manaka continued, his smirk widening, "I think I'll try rewriting my ending. See if I can't flip the board while I'm at it."

Kyubey tilted its head. "You intend to defy the natural order?"

"Defy?" Manaka chuckled. "No, no, I'm just making some… adjustments." He turned, starting to walk away. "You're welcome to watch, though. Maybe you'll learn something."

Kyubey didn't respond immediately. Then, after a pause, it spoke again.

"If you stray too far from the expected outcome, I will have to act accordingly."

Manaka waved a hand dismissively as he walked down the street. "Yeah, yeah. You do your thing, I'll do mine."

And with that, he disappeared into the city, already thinking about what kind of food Kyoko would want tonight.

…..

Kyoko wanted to go hunt a witch today but she didn't feel like it anymore when she thought of her and Manaka's agreement on their date, though she would end it the moment the time reaches five o clock since it was her current limit at the moment and spending two hours with someone sounds interesting even if he did say he liked her and a certain blue haired girl, she still wondered how he was bold to declare to save both of them.

Kyoko leaned back against the railing of the abandoned overpass, biting into the last of her pocky stick as she waited. The city below was bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, cars moving like tiny insects in the distance. Her stomach grumbled, reminding her that she hadn't eaten a real meal today.

She scowled to herself. Stupid Manaka. He better have picked a place with good food.

It wasn't like she hated the idea of a date. It was just weird. Manaka was weird. He had that smirk like he was always one step ahead, but there was something off about him, something she couldn't quite put her finger on.

And then there was the way he talked. Like he already knew how things would turn out. Like he could just decide what would happen next.

She huffed, crossing her arms. "Tch. Bold bastard."

"Talking about me already?"

Kyoko stiffened slightly before rolling her eyes. "You're late."

Manaka grinned as he approached, hands stuffed in his pockets. "Nah, I just like making an entrance."

Kyoko scoffed. "Yeah, well, next time bring food with you if you're gonna do that."

He chuckled. "Fair. So, what do you wanna eat?"

She was about to suggest something when she noticed something about him—his soul gem. It wasn't normal. Sure, soul gems darkened over time, but his had… lines. Strange, glowing etchings carved into the surface, shifting like living ink.

She narrowed her eyes. "The hell happened to your soul gem?"

Manaka blinked, then followed her gaze. "Oh. That." He lifted his hand, watching the way the runes pulsed faintly. "Just some adjustments."

Kyoko tensed. "Adjustments? That's not normal, dude. That's some witchy shit."

Manaka tilted his head, amused. "And if it is?"

Kyoko was rendered speechless. "...I mean it's not like I am worried about you or something, I just don't want you turning into a witch in the middle of our date"

Manaka chuckled, he stored his soul gem in his pocket and moved his hands towards her head and flicked it.

lightly. "Relax, Kyoko. I told you, I'm not going full witch just yet. I've got a few more days."

Kyoko slapped his hand away with a scowl. "Tch. Don't do that."

Manaka just smirked and shrugged, unfazed as ever. "Come on, let's eat. I promise I won't sprout horns and start chanting in runes while we're at it."

Kyoko rolled her eyes but didn't argue. The guy was an enigma, and she wasn't sure if that annoyed her or made her more interested. Either way, she wasn't about to let a weird soul gem ruin a free meal.

They ended up at a small ramen shop tucked away in one of the quieter parts of town. The smell of broth and grilled pork filled the air, making Kyoko's stomach growl even louder. She didn't even wait for Manaka to sit before ordering two full bowls for herself.

Manaka leaned back in his seat, watching her with amusement as she dug in. "You really don't hold back, huh?"

She slurped up a mouthful of noodles and shot him a glare. "Shut up. Food's food."

He chuckled, stirring his own bowl absentmindedly. "Fair enough."
