Reborn in Record of Ragnarok/SNV (w Powers)

Chapter 15: The end and a new beginning

The vast empire of Rome—Lucius' Rome—stretched from the cold reaches of Siberia to the sun-scorched lands of Africa, from the coasts of the New World to the mystical East. China had fallen. The once-mighty Qin dynasty was no more, its forces crushed beneath the overwhelming might of Rome's advanced weaponry, strategy, and Lucius' own overwhelming strength.

Asia was his.

But time… time was his only enemy now.

No war. No battle. No god or mortal could stand before him. But he could feel it. His body, despite the sheer monstrous strength it held, was deteriorating. The price of surpassing mortality itself was steep. His hair, once as dark as the obsidian blades of his finest Roman steel, was now streaked with silver. His once-youthful eyes, shining with the divine might of his fused ocular powers, carried the weight of centuries of conquest and wisdom.

His lifespan had been cut, shaved away by the sheer pressure he had placed upon himself.

And so, before he would pass… he would finish his vision.

Lucius stepped into the chamber deep within his imperial palace, a room reserved for only the highest minds of his empire. It was a place where philosophers, scientists, and engineers gathered—working tirelessly to push humanity past its limitations.

Rome was already beyond anything history could have imagined:

✅ Clean energy—early electricity refined far beyond what his past life had at the same period.

✅ Advanced medical sciences—hospitals that could treat wounds that would have once been fatal.

✅ Mass production of technology—the precursor to what would have been the Industrial Revolution, without the pollution and suffering.

✅ A world free of war and suffering, unified under one banner—his banner.

"This world…" Lucius whispered, staring at the blueprints before him. "…will never be like the one I came from."

He refused it.

No climate change.

No pointless, self-destructive greed.

No wars fought for nothing.

The Rome he had built would last forever.

As much as war had defined him, Lucius had never forgotten that he was still human.

He had spent years refining his body, his mind, his spirit—but he had never truly lived as a man.

That changed when he met her.

A warrior. A strategist. A woman who could match his wit and strength.

She challenged him in ways no battle ever could. Where the world saw a god-king, she saw a man—a fool who had thrown away his youth for war and progress.

And he loved her for it.

"Lucius," she murmured one night, her fingers tracing the scars on his chest. "You always talk about what comes after. But have you ever thought about… staying?"

He chuckled. "I can't stay forever."

"But you can live," she whispered. "At least… until you can't anymore."

And so, Lucius, the Eternal Conqueror, became Lucius, the Husband and Father.

His daughter was born under the brightest stars of Rome.

She was strong. Wise. She carried his blood, but she was her own person—a ruler in her own right.

The world did not need another warlord. It needed a guardian.

And so he raised her to be exactly that.

His body finally gave in.

After years of breaking mortal limits, of surpassing what should have been possible, Lucius lay on his deathbed.

His empire did not mourn.

It celebrated.

Because Lucius Aelius Varro was not a man who should be remembered in sadness. He was the man who changed the world.

No one wept.

Instead, they cheered.

They honored his name.

As he took his final breath, his daughter whispered to him, "Sleep well, Father. Rome will never fall."

He smiled.

And then… darkness.

Then came the light.

Lucius awoke in a realm unlike any he had ever seen.

Valhalla.

Warriors—legends—stood before him. Leonidas. Lü Bu. Sasaki Kojiro. Qin Shi Huang. They all watched him with interest.

And then…

"So, you're finally here," came a voice.

Lucius turned.

Brunhilde.

The eldest of the Valkyrie sisters. The mastermind of Ragnarok.

Her eyes gleamed with amusement, intelligence, and something else—something dangerous.

"We have a lot to talk about," she said.

Lucius smirked.

"Let's get to work."
