Chapter 16: 1st Day in Valhalla, a Schemer at work
The halls of Valhalla were vast, grand beyond anything Lucius had ever seen—even greater than the finest palaces of Rome. Towering golden pillars stretched to the heavens, adorned with carvings of battles that had shaped the fate of men and gods alike. The air crackled with divine power, thick with the presence of warriors who had carved their names into history.
Yet, in all its glory, Valhalla was just another battlefield.
And Lucius Aelius Varro was already preparing his strategy.
Across from him sat Brunhilde, the eldest of the Valkyrie sisters—the mastermind behind humanity's rebellion against the gods. She watched him carefully, those sharp eyes gleaming with intelligence.
"So," she said, smirking slightly, "do you understand now, Lucius? The gods are not your allies. They never were. Their arrogance has festered for eons… and Ragnarok is the only chance humanity has to break free."
Lucius leaned back in his seat, arms crossed. "You talk as if I needed convincing." His eyes gleamed with amusement. "I fought Ares. I crushed Ares. I know exactly how gods operate."
Brunhilde chuckled. "Then let's get to business. I didn't bring you here just for your strength. You're a conqueror. A strategist. A schemer. I want you to help me win Ragnarok."
Lucius exhaled slowly, considering. He had spent a lifetime conquering, outwitting, and outmaneuvering enemies. Now, he was being asked to turn that same mind against the gods themselves.
How could he say no?
He reached for a goblet of wine, swirling the divine liquid as he spoke. "Alright, Brunhilde. If we're doing this, we do it my way. No honor, no fairness, no playing by their rules. The gods expect Ragnarok to be a contest of strength." He smirked. "Let's turn it into a war of deception."
Brunhilde leaned in. "I'm listening."
Lucius set his goblet down, fingers tapping against the table.
"The gods are complacent," he began. "They've been at the top for too long. They think they're untouchable. That means they won't expect a true war—only a series of one-on-one battles. That's their first mistake."
Brunhilde's eyes narrowed. "Go on."
Lucius smirked. "We use their arrogance against them. We make them believe Ragnarok is going exactly as they planned—until it's too late."
Step 1: Psychological Warfare.
Before the first battle even begins, spread fear.Have fighters spread rumors of a hidden ace among humanity.Make the gods doubt their own fighters.
Step 2: Unpredictable Fighters.
The gods have seen human warriors from history. That's why we bring out the unexpected."They'll expect Leonidas, but what if we bring someone even they don't recognize?""They think Qin Shi Huang was the greatest emperor? I ruled an empire that never fell. Let's introduce them to the true conqueror of humanity."
Brunhilde smirked. "You want to fight?"
Lucius took a sip of wine. "Eventually. But not yet. The best piece is played at the right moment."
Step 3: Hidden Powers & Traps.
Lucius' knowledge of the future rounds gave them an advantage. He knew which gods were coming and could train his warriors accordingly."We let them think they've won. Then we turn the tables."
Brunhilde's smirk widened. "You really are dangerous."
Lucius chuckled. "You have no idea."
As they continued their planning, Brunhilde's expression darkened.
"There's something else, Lucius," she said. "Something you don't know."
Lucius raised an eyebrow.
"The gods… they aren't just fighting to destroy humanity." She leaned forward. "They're hiding something. Odin, in particular."
Lucius narrowed his eyes. "Go on."
Brunhilde hesitated, then finally spoke. "Odin is planning something beyond Ragnarok."
Lucius exhaled sharply.
The final boss was never just the gods.
It was Odin himself.
Lucius smirked. "So… we're not just fighting for humanity's survival. We're fighting to expose a lie."
Brunhilde nodded.
Lucius grinned.
"Good. I was starting to get bored."
AN: This'll be tricky, but I think I could manage, bear with me if it'll sound a little weird, Future Knowledge and how little we know of Odin's Plans of the Primordials and all that.
