Chapter 26: Volume 1: Chapter 026 - You Steal My Son, I'll Steal Your Brother

In the County of Orkney, ever since the passing of King Lot who had ruled over this land, this territory had become the "independent kingdom" of a certain woman.

And at this very moment, deep within the castle palace, a woman was reading a letter in her hand.

She wore a Mystic Code dress in dark tones, a crown of thorns on her head, and a black veil covering her face. Her long, platinum-blonde hair was spread smoothly over the throne.

Even without seeing her face, one could tell she was likely a great beauty from the full curve of her chest cinched by the dress, her slender waist, and the long, fair legs exposed by the slit in her skirt.

However, the aura of this woman was the complete opposite of the elegance one might imagine; it was, in fact, sinister.

After silently reading the letter in her hand and letting it burn to ash, it was a long while before the woman, as if suppressing her rage, spat out two words.

"—Traitorous son!"

The cold and hateful voice echoed through the empty castle hall, causing a boy and girl of similar age, as well as a gloomy-faced youth standing to the side, to all fix their gazes downward, remaining utterly silent.

—And this woman was none other than the current master of Orkney, the daughter of the former King Uther, Morgan.

Watching the ashes of the letter slowly dissipate in the air, Morgan, to be honest, couldn't quite understand how things had turned out this way.

Gawain, as the most outstanding of all her children, should have executed her orders perfectly.

But in the end, he had betrayed her, directly taking Arthur's side...

"Is that Arthur really as good as you say!?"

Muttering resentfully, recalling the contents of Gawain's letter, Morgan's grip on the armrest of the throne tightened, her eyes under the veil filled with fury.

Her anger was not just due to her child's betrayal, but more so due to the unfairness of everything that had happened.

After all, if the person who had inherited the throne, the one the people called "Arthur," had been her own brother, a man, Morgan would have had no objection to their existence. She might have even willingly humbled herself to assist them.

But she knew that the person who now occupied the throne was a woman, just like her—a "fake" created by her father and Merlin.

If that was the case, then she, as a woman who had inherited the "Power of the Island," was clearly more qualified to sit on that throne. So why wasn't she the one to become the new ruler of Britain?

All of this was simply the partiality and injustice of fate.

Taking a deep breath, Morgan calmed herself down.

Originally, she had planned for Gawain to humiliate Artoria at her succession ceremony, to sweep away her dignity. But now, things had turned out contrary to her wishes. Not only had she failed to achieve her initial goal, but she had also gifted them a son for free, giving her opponent another powerful general.

"However, this matter is far from over."

Staring into the crystal ball floating before her, at the reflected image of a blind, black-haired boy in a white cloak who was just taking off his hood, Morgan's lips curled up slightly. Her long, slender white fingers tapped on the armrest, a smile in her eyes.

"Since you stole my throne, I'll steal your most precious 'thing'. I'll let you have a taste of the pain of loss, heheh..."

A sinister, witch-like laugh drifted through the air, causing the boy and girl at her side to tremble involuntarily. The gloomy-faced youth on the other side, however, merely frowned slightly at his softly laughing mother, his face showing no emotion.

"What is it, En?"

Inside a command tent, Artoria asked with confusion, looking at the boy who had just taken off his hood and was now standing frozen in place with a puzzled expression.

"...I just feel like someone was spying on me."

An indescribable feeling lingered in Aozaki Rin's heart. He had indeed felt a gaze-like presence just now, but aside from his sister Artoria, he hadn't sensed anyone else's aura.

"Spying? Don't tell me it's one of Vortigern's mages? What on earth is that Merlin fellow doing? Preventing this sort of thing from happening is his job, isn't it...?"

Artoria frowned, not thinking it was just the boy's imagination. She subconsciously felt a sense of dissatisfaction that a certain white-haired magus was probably slacking off somewhere.

However, no sooner had her words fallen than a somewhat helpless voice came from outside the tent.

"Now that's just unfair to me. I've been setting up wards around the military camp this whole time."

Merlin entered the tent, staff in hand, feeling a little speechless that the girl always assumed he was being irresponsible.

However, he quickly changed the subject, glancing at Aozaki Rin before continuing.

"But... there was indeed some scrying from another magus just now, just not from Vortiggen's side. You don't need to worry about that for now. After all, the most important thing at hand is winning this upcoming war."

"Are you sure it's fine...?"

Slightly skeptical of Merlin's explanation, after a moment, Artoria could only sigh. She knew that if this man didn't want to talk, no one could force him. Besides, as Merlin said, their most urgent priority was the war that was about to begin.

After having prepared the first round of supplies and manpower, to meet the expectations of the people, Artoria had already dispatched her troops two days ago, planning to first recapture a territory occupied by Vortigern's army to restore the people's confidence.

And right now, they were in the process of resting during their march.

"By the way, is Sir Kay not here?"

Having walked through the entire camp without finding his adoptive brother, Aozaki Rin was a little confused, which was why he had just walked into Artoria's private tent.

"Sir Kay was sent by me to scout the route ahead. After all, our preparations this time were rather rushed, and the supplies we brought are not very abundant. So we must take the shortest route for a quick and decisive battle to make this war look good."

Artoria smiled somewhat helplessly. Although she had already tried her best to request material support from the great lords, as expected, before seeing any actual results of battle, those people were all stingy, only sending a small amount of supplies. It made one realize that there was a reason why the past wars against Vortigern had failed.

Aozaki Rin nodded. Just as he was about to say something more, a commotion suddenly erupted outside the tent.

"It's terrible, M-My King! Lord Kay... he's been defeated by a cat demon!"
