Reborn: The truth behind the love

Chapter 10: Chapter -10 Revisiting memory

Seeing Esha and Emma huddled together, Granny Madhu didn't know what to do with them. Who would have thought these two undefeated champions of S City Jail would be so terrified of the ghost?

Granny Madhu tried to pat the ghost's back—whether she could see her or not was another thing. After wailing for a long time, Anjali's ghost finally stopped, hiccuping as she released Granny Madhu.

Esha and Emma felt the air lighten as the bulb stopped flickering. They slowly got up from the floor and ran toward Granny Madhu, gripping both her hands tightly. Emma whispered, "Granny, did the ghost leave the room?" She tightened her grip on Granny's hand.

Feeling the increasing pressure on her left arm, Granny Madhu slapped Emma's hand and whispered, "She's still here, but you don't have to worry. I'll try to talk to her. It seems she's just worried about Anjali."

Granny spoke while estimating the ghost's position in the room through her senses. "Why are you crying? What do you want?" she asked.

Anjali's ghost replied between hiccups, "I want my sister… wooo wooo…" As she started crying again.

Seeing the situation getting worse, Granny said, "Are you talking about Anjali? See, she's alright—she's just sleeping."

The ghost, still tearful, insisted, "No, she's not fine! I can sense that she's sad and in so much pain… wuuu wuuu… I want my sister!"

Granny thought for a moment after hearing her cries. "Can you tell us why your sister is sad? If we knew, we could help her. You don't have to do anything—just give me your hand." She extended her hand but then retracted it, contemplating. After a minute, she took both Esha and Emma's hands and placed hers above theirs. "Now, place your hand on mine if you want to help your sister."

Though frightened, Esha and Emma didn't pull away, afraid of angering the ghost. Anjali's ghost hesitantly placed her hand on theirs.

Granny closed her eyes and instructed Esha and Emma to do the same. Then, she muttered an incantation—and suddenly, they were transported into a forest.

Emma opened her eyes first. Seeing nothing but trees and a villa in front of them, she shook her head. But when the scene remained unchanged, she panicked and shook Granny and Esha. When they opened their eyes, they stared at the sight before them in disbelief.

Esha asked, "What is this? Weren't we in the infirmary? How did we get here?"

"We're inside Anjali's memory," Granny explained. "If we want to know what she's going through, we have to see what she's suffered. Don't worry—no one can see us, and we can't change anything."

As they were talking, another hand rested on Granny and Esha's shoulders. They turned their heads in unison. Granny screamed, "What are you doing here? How can you touch us when we're in your memory?"

Esha and Emma's faces paled as they listened to Granny.

The ghost looked confused. "What are you saying, Granny? I'm the ghost you were talking to—I came with you. How can you say that?"

They were all stunned. Why did the ghost and Anjali look exactly alike?

But soon, the mystery was revealed as a car stopped in front of the villa, and a girl stepped out with a man and a woman—probably her parents—and two brothers.

Seeing the girl, the ghost screamed, *"See? She is my sister!"* The sister's body was asleep, which was why she was using my body." Anjali clapped as she explained, but their minds had already gone blank.

As far as they remembered, that girl was the one who was going to be executed for killing her family. But due to the incident with Anjali, she was now in a coma. And now, they realized that the girl who had been living with them the whole day was the killer—the one who had murdered her family—while the ghost was the real Anjali.

Suddenly, their bodies shuddered as they remembered how they had laughed and chatted with the murderer. Instinctively, they caressed their necks, thanking God they hadn't crossed any limits—otherwise, the murderer might have killed them too.

Seeing the family enter the villa, Anjali's ghost ran inside after them. Esha and Emma glanced at Granny, silently asking what to do next. Granny cleared her throat and said, *"What's there to fear? It's just a memory—she can't touch us. Let's finish this quickly and get out of this mess."*

Carefully, they entered the villa, swallowing hard. Their hands and legs trembled, and goosebumps covered their entire bodies.
