Chapter 13: (RBT) Chapter 13: I'm Taking My Leave!!
No one knew what tomorrow would hold for Kazdel, but the sun continued to shine on a new day.
Ermengarde, whose biological clock was set to the standard of modern youth, was the first to awaken.
"Ah... what did we even do last night?"
Even now, thinking back on last night's experience, Ermengarde still felt a hot flush on her ears.
What was she thinking, to go and tease a Blood Demon Prince like that?
If Lucifer's primal instincts had flared up at that moment, she shuddered to think of the consequences.
Ermengarde, who should have felt relieved to have survived, did feel some joy, but mostly, it was... excitement that she held within.
The tips of Ermengarde's ears were slightly crimson. She mused to herself while packing her sheets and pillow back into her "Void."
She never dreamed that Lucifer's manor, aside from the building itself, would have no supplies prepared for a second person whatsoever. If some unlucky soul were to become his servant, they would probably have to pay for their own living expenses... What a cheapskate.
"Are Mr. Lucifer and Ms. Warfarin not awake yet?... Can't be helped. I guess I'll have to be the one to prepare breakfast then!"
Seeing that the first-floor hall was empty, Ermengarde sighed softly and began to take on the role of the house's housewife. Although Blood Demons might not need to consume nutrients like normal people, she was still kind enough to prepare breakfast for Lucifer and Warfarin.
But she did not truly understand Lucifer's and Warfarin's biological clocks.
It wasn't until 11:45 AM that Lucifer and Warfarin gradually woke up, one after the other.
"Do Blood Demons sleep in, too?"
"What kind of good Blood Demon wakes up early with discipline? Besides, we don't have jobs. If we don't sleep in, what are we supposed to do?"
"..."
Faced with Lucifer's retort, Ermengarde felt as if she had been struck by a thunderbolt on the crown of her head. She collapsed onto the sofa, completely drained of energy.
The breakfast that should have been a simple sandwich bento she carried with her had now become lunch in the stomachs of Lucifer and Warfarin.
"It's about time. Let's pack up and go to the palace. The meeting is about to start."
"Ah... I almost forgot about that!" Ermengarde, who was reading a book to kill time, quickly packed her things into her "Void." The events of last night were to blame; they were so impressive that they almost made her unable to distinguish between dream and reality.
"I don't blame you… Go on home. The token has been delivered anyway. Don't forget to buy a lottery ticket on your way back." Lucifer couldn't help but wonder. For Ermengarde to have traveled safely from Leithania to Kazdel, she really ought to test her luck with a lottery ticket. If she won, he might even get a small share from her.
"I think I'd better go too. I can take the opportunity to report what's happened in Kazdel and the Royal Court to my teacher!" Although Ermengarde often complained about her work and Fleamont, she would always try her best to fulfill her responsibilities. This demeanor couldn't help but make Lucifer think of his past self... Perhaps... this is the state of a corporate slave.
"Ah… you're all leaving? Then I'd better go home too." Seeing Lucifer and Ermengarde about to leave as a pair, a bored Warfarin prepared to return home.
But one should not underestimate her close relationship with Lucifer. If she were to go to the palace alone, she would surely be stopped one-on-one by the guards. The only thing she could use as leverage was her age... in terms of official rank, even Ermengarde was a level higher than her.
"Is there anyone at your home?"
"Ah… Mr. Lucifer, are you worried about me? I'm so touched… If you want to hire me to watch the house with some blood wine, I could be persuaded, you know." Warfarin tried to put on a pleading look, hoping to lure Lucifer into her trap.
"There, there, good girl. Hurry home and take care of your house, or else it will feel neglected."
"Tch! If you despise me, just say it. You have a real soft spot for newcomers."
"How could that be? I'm worried about your safety, of course. How about this... to prevent any unforeseen incidents on your way home, shall I have the Overlord or another Prince escort you?"
"Haha! The Overlord and the Princes are swamped with a thousand tasks! I'd better not bother them!! Anyway, I'm taking my leave!!" With that, Warfarin flashed to the entrance hall and slammed the door shut, disappearing from Lucifer's and Ermengarde's sight like the wind.
Ermengarde blinked in confusion. The speed of Warfarin's disappearance just now, using only her physical body, was almost comparable to her own small dimensional hole, wasn't it? Were Blood Demons really this terrifyingly strong?!
To be honest, this was the first time Ermengarde had witnessed a concrete display of a Blood Demon as a battle-crazed warrior. Even Warfarin, who was not skilled in combat at all, possessed physical abilities far superior to her own. Then what level of monster was Lucifer, a Blood Demon Prince?
"Gulp…" Ermengarde unknowingly swallowed hard.
It's a good thing Lucifer has such strong self-control. Otherwise, I really would have been in trouble, wouldn't I?
"Don't just stand there daydreaming. Are you going to help me watch the house?"
"Ah… I'm coming!" Hearing Lucifer's call, Ermengarde, who had just come to her senses, quickly followed after him.
On the way to the palace with Lucifer, Ermengarde began to be more cautious with her words and actions. Every word had to be carefully considered in her mind, for fear of stepping on one of Lucifer's landmines and opening up a worldline that couldn't pass censorship, which would surely mean trouble.
"Is this the first time you've attended a Royal Court meeting?" Lucifer noticed Ermengarde's inexplicable tension and started a conversation to divert her attention.
"Yes. I've barely ever come to Kazdel before, and I haven't met many members of the Royal Courts either." As Fleamont's student, Ermengarde certainly knew the importance of the title of Lord of a Royal Court, and a meeting attended by several lords, including the Demon King… was something she had never even imagined.
However, Lucifer did not think so. The Lich beside him was still too young. Give her another thirty or forty years of experience, and the so-called title of Lord of a Royal Court would just be a Sarkaz with a famous name, a hot potato that no one wanted. If the Blood Demon Overlord ever thought of passing the title to him, he would have to flee Kazdel the day before, then change his name and disappear from the world completely.
Of course, even if the Overlord didn't do that, Lucifer might still choose to leave anyway.
One Blood Demon and one Lich. With no more words between them, the two walked into the palace, passing by the gazes of the guards, until they ran into a Sarkaz in armor with black, skyward-pointing horns at a corner.
"…Lucifer?"
"Tracy? You… when did you start wearing eyeshadow?"
The Tracy whom Lucifer addressed looked at Lucifer and Ermengarde beside him with some surprise, then remembered that these were the two Teresa had said would be attending the meeting.
"…I'm not wearing eyeshadow."
"Then what's with the dark circles under your eyes? Or did someone beat you up?"
"..."
Tracy remained silent. His personality and Lucifer's didn't quite get along.
And are my dark circles really that bad?
