Reincarnated Prince of Kaligarh

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: “Shadows in the Night”

📜 Previously on The Last Prince of Kaligarh:

Aryan rushed to save his wounded mother, Devika, and his tiger, Sena, after an ambush that claimed the lives of seventeen loyal rebels. Overwhelmed with grief and rage, Aryan swore vengeance. A lion's roar—imagined—echoed his fury, marking the turning point of a boy turning into a true king.

SCENE 1 – RETURN TO CAMP [LATE NIGHT – ARYAN'S WAR CAMP]

A somber convoy returns under torchlight.

Aryan rides in silence, Veer beside him. Devika rests on a stretcher carried by soldiers. Sena limps gently, guided by two Wolf Riders.

The camp, usually bustling with life, stands quiet in respect.

As soon as they arrive, Ayurvedic doctors rush in.

Aryan paces as one elderly doctor examines Devika, murmuring Sanskrit prayers under his breath.

Another doctor tends to Sena, applying a herbal salve and binding the tiger's wound.

After tense minutes, the senior doctor turns to Aryan and bows.

DOCTOR

Your Majesty, your mother—Rani Devika—will recover. The wounds are deep, but no organs are pierced. She must rest and remain unstressed.

Aryan nods, silently relieved.

Another doctor speaks.

SECOND DOCTOR

The tiger—brave creature—will walk again in days. He's young. Strong. He fought as only royal beasts do.

THIRD DOCTOR

As for the five surviving guards... they may live, but their wounds are permanent. They must retire.

Aryan lowers his head, then speaks calmly.

ARYAN

Treat them like heroes. Give them land. Pensions. Tell them they didn't fall… they endured.

The camp breathes again.

SCENE 2 – WAR ROOM [LATER THAT NIGHT]

Aryan enters with his top commanders. His aura has changed—no more hesitation, no more softness.

Viraj approaches with a sealed letter.

VIRAJ

It's done.

Aryan opens it. A single sentence:

"The Hawk has fallen."

Aryan sets the letter on the table, eyes glowing faintly.

ARYAN

General Raghav Varun is dead.

Murmurs ripple through the tent. Ranvi whistles softly.

RANVI

That man nearly outplayed us in every move…

ARYAN

Not anymore.

SCENE 3 – FLASHBACK – THE ASSASSINATION [KALIGARH – 1 NIGHTS AGO]

Darkness cloaks the city. Clouds swallow the moon.

Inside the enemy palace, a maid gently places a silver tray beside General Raghav Varun's bed. On it: two crushed pills in honeyed water.

The general drinks, as always. The maid bows and leaves.

Later that night, his eyes snap open. His arms refuse to move.

RAGHAV

(grunting)

Wha—?!

He tries to shout—but no sound comes. A shadow moves inside the room.

REVA, dressed in black, steps in silently, twin daggers at her side.

REVA

You're awake. Good.

Raghav's eyes widen in fury and terror.

REVA

You've been poisoned. By the same hands that fed you comfort. Your mistake was believing you were untouchable.

She walks to his bedside.

REVA

You faced a boy. But you should've feared the man behind the mask. You don't even realize how deep his network runs.

Raghav glares, unable to speak.

Reva leans close, voice soft like silk.

REVA

You're not dying from poison alone. You're dying because you became irrelevant.

With one smooth motion, she slices across his throat.

REVA

Good night, General.

SCENE 4 – PRESENT – BACK IN THE CAMP

A younger commander speaks, still shaken.

COMMANDER

Forgive me, my prince. But… if the poison was enough, why go so far? Why send Reva? Why make it so… obvious?

Aryan turns to him, eyes calm but cold.

ARYAN

Because I don't want them guessing.

He walks slowly around the table.

ARYAN

I want them to know. That I don't hesitate. That I protect what's mine. That I punish betrayal—not in secret—but in ways they'll never forget.

He stops, looking directly at the young commander.

ARYAN

Let this message ring through Kaligarh: Touch those I cherish… and I'll erase your name from history.
