Chapter 12: Natural Selection of the Academy!

Wu Shuang looked around and realized the number of people gathered in this place was probably approaching thousands. He had not even realized that this place was so attractive to a lot of people until now.

Most of the people gathered had already interacted and some even formed groups. He was standing alone with Fu Qing.

"Silence"

A loud voice reverberated in all directions, and Wu Shuang subconsciously raised his head towards the sky.

He could sea a figure standing next to the massive gate at the top of the mountain.

"I'm Wei Shou, the current Dean of the Academy. I stand here today to welcome all of you to our academy and also pass on some wisdom."

"The path of practice is not easy and everything you might want has to be fought for yourself. Many of you probably come from privileged backgrounds and even have some talent. But your talent is nothing in the Academy! Only those that have strong will and desire to fight for a path ahead can make something out of themselves."

"The first step towards entering the Academy is to challenge your limit and showcase your will. Without a strong will forget about entering the Academy."

"This staircases leading to the gate in standing in front of is you selection trail. If you can't climb and enter the gate, best go back."

When he said this, he waved his sleeves and the majestic gate behind him seemed to have been struck by a terrifying force.

Bang!

The sound made everything seem to darken in Wu Shuang's vision and when he regained his sense, the gate had opened.

It was just that at this moment, he had this fear in his mind warning him not to approach the stairs.

The more he looked at them, the stronger it become. He almost took a step back, but he wasn't that fragile.

Looking at the stairs that had appeared in his line of sight, he walked forward instead of retreating. To Wu Shuang, this kind of fear was nothing compared to the tortures that his master put his mind on to temper him back then.

Even though he managed to move forward than retreat, he wasn't the first one. At the moment more than fourty individuals had already stepped on the stairs and each of them had cultivation on the same level as Qin Lin or stronger.

The only issue was that their movements were so slow while some even seemed to be having difficulty taking a step forward.

But from time to time, he could see strong individuals than him being thrown back the steps and surprisingly they couldn't ascend again.

"Master! What is going on here?" he asked as he didn't want to be among them.

"If in not wrong, this place has been completely covered by some formation that is able to tell those that have been practicing for a longer period. Such people will be expelled, especially when their will is not strong enough." When she explained, he was slightly panicked.

"You mean how long it has taken one to practice their Innate Ability to their current level?" He couldn't help but become alert.

"Don't worry! This will have no effect on you, but the pressure is a problem. I can only help you so much, you have to deal with the other issues by yourself." After saying this, she stopped replying even if he asked.

As he walked he realized that Qin Lin and other figures where still ascending at a steady pace.

""Indeed! This are really many monstrous geniuses in this world. Just those that are trying out the Academy entrance selection are like this, what about in the Academy?" After he thought of this, his eyes become firmer.

He took a step forward and felt as though the whole world was placed on his head.

Surprisingly, a feeling he had experienced before in the night he encountered the weird seemed to appear again. It was just that this time he didn't even realize when, a voice was already murmuring in his ears.

It was just that the murmurs where far weaker than the ones he has experienced before.

"Huh! This is definitely not from the same source!" As he thought of this, he dragged himself forward. The stronger resistance made his movements slow.

"If only you had already opened all the veins in the body, it shouldn't have been a good opportunity for you to attempt opening the dantian." The voice suddenly commented casually in his mind.

But he ignored it, after all she probably wouldn't allow him to do that here. The place had many eyes watching and him breaking through would probably not do him any good.

At least from what he had seen, his master wanted him to keep the issue he was practicing martial arts secret until he had some ability to protect himself in this world.

In the void, a few people stood while some looked young, most seemed old.

Wei Shou was among them, and he kept looking down observing the talents at the forefront of the stairs. Surprisingly, more than five individuals had already gone even beyond Qin Lin and the others ahead of Wu Shuang.

"It seems that this year our academy is going to gain a lot of fresh talents. I just wonder how many of them will be able to walk out of that place." He was smiling at the moment.

At the same time, another group was standing right behind him, each holding also checking out those climbing the stairs.

"Hehe! Dean! Stop getting ahead of yourself. We can only wait and see, the final results is what we should be more concerned about." Another man with silvery white hair spoke up.

"I think we should continue watching. Having a lot of students is not a bad thing, but the most important thing is having best of the best. Numbers don't make powerhouses." The Dean finally spoke as he looked at the stairs.

He was actually not bothered by any result, he just felt it was best to have the best students they could get their hands on.

It was much better than having to select just a large number of those that would waste the resources in the academy.

Things in the Academy after all where different and they each knew this. You wanted to obtain resources, you had to prove yourself.

Everything in the in the Academy was like that, from gaining techniques all the way to resources. As long as one proved they were making progress, then they would continue to recieve a lot of benefits.

It was also the reason the Dean had no intention of changing the way things have always been done. As for having many candidates in this selection whose cultivation was beyond their peers, he just thought they were okay.

Most of the candidates gathered this time come from strong backgrounds and not difficult for them to gain resources that could allow them to cultivate to their current levels faster.

Well, it should be called evolving their innate ability to the levels they had reached faster. Even though it was different from martial arts, the imate abilties they each had would bring about transformation with each evolution.

The transformation had something to do with the body and spirit. In this way, they could be able to handle utilization of the innate abilities.

Those at the first level and third level had different physical and spiritual states.

It was also why Wu Shuang's master found the path somewhat interesting.

When it came to the Academy, just having a higher cultivation was not enough to be allowed to enter.

Those that have relied heavily on external aid to reach their current levels can't possibly reach the gate at the top of the mountain.

The reason for this was simple, their spirit and even will was much weaker.

Since that was the case, the Dean obviously wouldn't be willing to compromise.

Besides, the wag students in the Academy are taught was based on their observable qualities.

When it came to innate abilities, one couldn't be able to tell unless you explained to them about yours.

In other words even a strong person couldn't be able to see through another's innate ability.

You could tell the level of Innate Ability, but can't tell the actual ability when one awakens.

Things in the Academy are different. Entering doesn't mean you are safe, as competition is everywhere and those that can't hold on, will be pushed out.

For instance, within a certain time period, some results are required to be seen. The academy expects certain outcomes and this outcomes can be checked through trials and missions.

Those that fail to meet this trials also lose access to resources.

It is far than just competition to survive in the Academy. One needs to continue becoming stronger or else they would be abandoned.

The situation might seem cruel, but it was that actual representation of the real world.

"Dean! What incentive made this clans sent their descendants into the academy so much this year?" Another figure standing behind the Dean asked with interest.

"Don't you already know?" Wei Shou shrugged at the other parties question.
