Chapter 3: Gu Yue Fang Yuan (It's Giving Main Character Energy)

The sun was flexing its rays, cutting through the mountain fog like a laser. Over a hundred 15-year-olds gathered in front of the Gu Yue Clan pavilion, which was basically the village's HQ. Five stories tall, sharp roofs, and guarded like it was Fort Knox. Inside was the shrine of the ancestors, where all the big decisions went down.

The academy elder, a white-bearded dude with big "wise old man" energy, led the kids into the pavilion. But instead of going up, they went down into an underground cave. The kids were shook—stalactites sparkled like a rave, and the whole place was glowing with neon colors. Fang Yuan, chilling in the crowd, was like, "Yeah, yeah, I've seen this before."

This cave was the Gu Yue Clan's secret sauce. Hundreds of years ago, they found a spirit spring here, which produced primeval stones—basically the clan's bread and butter. The group walked deeper, and the cave got darker until they hit an underground river glowing faint blue, like a starry night sky. On the other side was a sea of moon orchids, glowing like a carpet of pearls. These flowers were food for a lot of Gu, making them the clan's biggest flex.

The kids were hyped. "Wow, so pretty!" "It's giving fairy vibes!" Fang Yuan just smirked. He knew what was coming.

The Awakening Ceremony (It's Giving Drama)

The academy elder explained the rules: "Walk through the river to the opposite bank. The further you go, the better your talent. Got it?"

"Got it," the kids replied, though most of them already knew the drill from their families.

First up was Gu Yue Chen Bo. He stepped into the river, feeling an invisible pressure. The moon orchids lit up, and little lights—Hope Gu—entered his body, easing the pressure. He took three steps before hitting a wall. "Gu Yue Chen Bo, 3 steps, no talent," the elder announced. Chen Bo looked like he'd just been hit with a big L.

Next was Gu Yue Zao Xie. He made it four steps. Another L.

The elder sighed. "Gu Yue Mo Bei, you're up."

Mo Bei, a sturdy kid with main character energy, stepped up. He walked 36 steps before stopping. "Gu Yue Mo Bei, B grade talent!" the elder shouted, hyped. The elders watching from the shadows nodded approvingly. Mo Bei's grandpa, Gu Yue Mo Chen, was beaming.

An hour later, half the kids had gone. Most were C or D grade, with a few B grades sprinkled in. The clan head sighed. "The bloodline's getting weaker. We haven't had a rank four master in years."

Then came Gu Yue Chi Chen, grandson of elder Gu Yue Chi Lian. He walked 36 steps—another B grade. Chi Lian was flexing hard, while Mo Chen looked salty.

Fang Yuan watched, unbothered. He knew Chi Chen was cheating—his grandpa had rigged the results. In his past life, Chi Chen got exposed later, but Fang Yuan wasn't about to snitch. He had bigger plans.

Fang Yuan's Turn (It's Giving Villain Energy)

"Gu Yue Fang Yuan!" the elder called.

The crowd went silent. All eyes were on Fang Yuan as he stepped into the river. The pressure hit him, but the Hope Gu lit up and entered his body, forming a ball of light in his abdomen. He walked 27 steps before the light exploded, opening his Primeval Sea—a C grade talent.

The crowd erupted. "Only C grade?!" "But he's supposed to be a genius!" Fang Yuan just smirked. He'd been here before. In his past life, this moment crushed him. But now? He didn't care. He had 500 years of rizz and a villain arc to speedrun.

The academy elder looked disappointed. The clan head sighed. The elders whispered, "The bigger the hopes, the bigger the disappointment."

Fang Yuan walked back, soaking wet but unbothered. The kids stared—some shocked, some sneering, some just vibing. Fang Zheng, his twin brother, looked devastated. "Big brother… only C grade?"

Fang Zheng's Turn (It's Giving Plot Twist)

"Gu Yue Fang Zheng!" the elder called.

Fang Zheng, still reeling from his brother's result, tripped and fell into the river. The kids laughed. "The Fang brothers, nothing special," the clan head muttered.

But Fang Yuan pulled him up. "Go on. The road to the future will be interesting," he said, calm as ever.

Fang Zheng, confused but determined, walked into the flower sea. He was so distracted he didn't even notice how far he'd gone—43 steps. "A grade talent!" the elder screamed, losing his mind.

The elders went wild. "An A grade! Finally!" Chi Lian and Mo Chen started arguing over who got to raise him. The clan head stepped in. "I'll take him. No objections."

The Legend of the Hope Gu (It's Giving Lore Dump)

As Fang Yuan walked through the river, he thought about the legend of the Hope Gu. Back in the day, the first human, Ren Zu, was getting clapped by wild beasts called Predicaments. He made a deal with three Gu: the Strength Gu, the Wisdom Gu, and the Hope Gu.

Ren Zu gave his youth to the Strength Gu and his prime years to the Wisdom Gu. But when he got old, the Strength and Wisdom Gu dipped, leaving him to get wrecked by Predicaments. Desperate, Ren Zu gave his heart to the Hope Gu, which scared the Predicaments away.

Fang Yuan smirked. "Predicaments come, but hope stays. That's the vibe."

Fang Yuan's Primeval Sea (It's Giving Sigma Energy)

After the Hope Gu exploded, Fang Yuan's Primeval Sea opened. It was a spherical aperture in his abdomen, glowing faintly. The sea inside was greenish-blue, dense like copper—a Rank one Gu Master's signature. The sea level was at 44%, the limit for a C grade talent.

Fang Yuan wasn't mad. He'd been here before. "C grade talent? Whatever. I've got 500 years of rizz. I'll just grind harder."

Fang Zheng's Big Moment (It's Giving Main Character Energy)

Fang Zheng, still shook from his brother's calmness, walked into the flower sea. He was so distracted he didn't even notice how far he'd gone—43 steps. "A grade talent!" the elder screamed.

The elders lost their minds. "An A grade! Finally!" Chi Lian and Mo Chen started arguing over who got to raise him. The clan head stepped in. "I'll take him. No objections."

Fang Zheng looked back at his brother, confused. Fang Yuan just smiled. "The road to the future will be interesting."
