Rewritten Magic: The Chronicles of Harris Wells ( A HP Fanfic)

Chapter 30: Chapter 18: Secrets, Spells, and a Shocking Joke

The next day was also long, filled with lessons, tricky spells, and even trickier staircases that changed their direction mid-step. But for Harris, Summer, and Alex, the real adventure was just beginning.

"Are you sure this one leads to the kitchen wing?" Alex whispered as he followed Harris through a narrow gap behind a tapestry.

"Pretty sure," Harris said, brushing dust from his robes. "According to my… memory," he added, not wanting to explain how he already knew about Hogwarts' many secrets.

The stone tunnel beyond was narrow and dimly lit by flickering torches. The air smelled like old parchment and magic. Summer trailed behind, her silver-green cloak brushing the wall.

"I still can't believe you know where all these secret passages are," she muttered.

"I told you, I used to read a lot," Harris replied with a small smile.

Alex rolled his eyes. "You read Hogwarts' floor plans too?"

"Something like that."

They continued deeper, the path twisting left and right. Sometimes it sloped up steeply, other times down. At one turn, Harris paused and whispered, "Watch out," just in time for Alex to duck under a low-hanging beam.

"Thanks," Alex said, brushing his hair back. "My forehead almost became part of the tunnel."

As they rounded the next bend, laughter echoed ahead.

"Wait," Summer said, raising a hand. "Do you hear that?"

They froze.

Two voices, deep and nearly identical, were laughing somewhere up ahead.

Then,

"Bippity boppity… BOO!" came a loud, dramatic voice, followed by mock sparkles in the air.

Harris blinked.

"Is that…?"

They turned the corner and there they were two tall red-haired boys, leaning against the wall, one waving a broken feather quill like a wand.

Fred and George Weasley.

"Well, what have we here?" Fred asked, raising an eyebrow as he spotted the trio. "Lost little first-years?"

"We're not lost," Summer said smoothly. "We're exploring."

"Ah, explorers! Dangerous job. This place has ghosts, trolls, and worse…" George leaned forward, eyes wide. "Teachers."

Alex snorted.

Fred grinned. "Don't worry, we won't tell. In fact, this is one of our favorite tunnels."

George spun the quill again and pointed it at Summer. "Bippity boppity boo!"

She raised an eyebrow. "That's not even a real spell."

"Oh?" Fred grinned mischievously. "Well, how about this one?" He raised the fake wand dramatically, eyes wide.

"Avada Kedavra!"

The whole tunnel went silent.

Harris's breath caught. Alex's mouth fell open. Summer's eyes widened.

Even the torches seemed to flicker in shock.

Then Fred burst out laughing. "Relax! Merlin's socks, you all looked like I actually knew magic!"

George laughed so hard he slid down the wall. "You should've seen your faces!"

Harris couldn't help but laugh too, though the spell's name had sent a chill down his spine.

"That's not funny," Summer said, but she was smiling. "You could scare someone half to death."

"Exactly!" both twins said in unison.

"Anyway," Fred said, brushing himself off, "we like you lot. You've got spirit. Most first-years don't dare poke around like this."

"You remind us of… well, us," George added proudly.

"Names?" Fred asked, tilting his head.

"Harris," Harris said.

"Summer Greengrass," she offered.

"Alex Richards."

"Well then, Harrix, Sumo, and Alice," George said with a mock bow, "you've officially earned the Weasley Seal of Secret Passagehood."

Fred grinned. "Which means we might tell you where a few more are… if you prove yourselves worthy."

"Worthy how?" Alex asked cautiously.

"Ah, that," Fred said, winking. "Is a tale for another tunnel. Good night, little ravens and badgers and snakes."

With that, the twins strolled away down a different branch of the passage, still laughing and whispering.

The trio stood in silence for a moment.

"That was… intense," Alex muttered.

"Yeah," Harris said quietly. The joke had hit a little too close to the memories of what that spell truly meant.

But even so, there was something oddly comforting about Fred and George. They were chaos in robes, but good-natured, and in their own way, kind.

As they kept walking, the tunnel eventually opened into a low corridor behind one of the giant tapestries near the Great Hall.

"Next time," Summer said, brushing cobwebs from her hair, "let's bring a map."

"We don't need one," Harris said, smiling faintly. "I've got it all up here."

He tapped the side of his head.

"Of course you do," Alex mumbled.

They stepped out into the corridor, laughing and stretching. Despite the dust and the scare, the night had bonded them even more.

Somewhere in the distance, the bells chimed midnight.

Adventure, magic, and trouble were all waiting.

But they were ready, together.
