Chapter 197: Taking Down the Barrier—The Impervious Veil of Legacy
Unable to digest what he was hearing, the commander pressed on.
"Are you saying Kaeliyus works under you?" He asked, clearly in disbelief.
"Yes," Seiya replied calmly.
"Why?" The commander probed, drawing Seiya's gaze this time. He felt the commander was asking more than he should, which didn't sit quite well with him.
Feeling his gaze as a bit oppressive, the commander got the hint right away—drawing back.
"I apologize. You don't have to answer that," he said.
Seiya returned his focus to his food, eating quietly. The commander's gaze rested nervously on him, seeing the boy before him as a mystery he wanted to unravel.
"Regarding the village," he continued softly. "Will you have any problem taking down the barrier?"
"Why?"
"The villagers had previously requested some supplies from us, and because of the barrier that no one has been able to access, it's been a hindrance," the commander explained.
"Moreover, since the villagers are on their way to recommence their daily lives and activities, I'm sure the younger ones would want to return to school and live a normal life like they used to," he added.
"I see," Seiya mused. "I hadn't thought about that."
The commander regarded Seiya with an unreadable expression, seeing him talk like the leader he claims to be.
"Then will you put down the barrier?"
"I will."
"We are grateful, thank you," the commander smiled. Even though Seiya had been honest with him through his questioning, the commander still held doubt of Seiya truly being the hero they were looking for.
However, if he's able to put down the barrier then that doubt will be cleared.
"Do you mind if l ask more?" The commander asked, looking to Seiya for a response. But Seiya neither responded nor spared him a glance. The commander, however, took his silence for a go ahead, after all, if Seiya didn't want to, he was one to clearly voice his disapproval.
"You said Kaeliyus works under you, and you were the one who saved the villagers. May I know how you were able to bring down the demon's barrier, and how you separated the villager's life forces?"
"With my weapon," Seiya answered. "My staff."
Although the commander hadn't seen the said staff , he didn't push Seiya any further about it, he simply veered his questions in the direction of things he was more curious about.
"Are you some kind of an organization?"
"No."
"Can I know the reason Kaeliyus killed the girl?"
"She was being nosy," Seiya blurted flatly.
The commander's brow twitched at his flat response, his brows wrinkling slightly in a puzzle.
"She was being nosy?" He echoed, unable to grasp the meaning behind Seiya's answer.
"Yes. Even though we told her we weren't sent there by anyone, and would like to go home to rest, she insisted on bringing us to the association," Seiya explained.
"She even activated her ability, saying she would use force to get us to cooperate. So, Kaeliyus killed her."
I see. It couldn't be helped that she was handling things in such a way without gauging her opponents' strength.
"So you ordered Kaeliyus to kill her?" The commander asked, wanting to get a clear view of things.
"I didn't. Kaeliyus killed her because he saw her action as one of insolence toward me. I am, after all, his Lord."
The commander was speechless for moments, merely staring at Seiya—unable to form any words or reaction. With the way Seiya talked, calling himself Lord, the commander couldn't help but feel there was more to him that met his eyes.
"If I may continue, does Kaeliyus being unavailable has to do with you?" The commander probed further.
"Kind of. Although I did send Kaeliyus on a mission, it was merely his clone. He's out there, probably busy with something I don't know."
"Is there any other motive, aside from the one you've shared, behind being adopted and registered under my name?" the commander pressed without pause.
"No. Because I have no one to be registered under, Kaeliyus brought me here," Seiya replied, pushing his empty dishes aside as he was almost done eating.
"Then it's safe to believe that you're indeed an orphan," the commander said, looking to Seiya for the truth.
"I don't really know my parents, so yes, maybe," he gave a vague response which didn't help in clearing the commander's doubts.
But that wasn't the commander's priorities, so he set it aside and focused on what had to be done.
"Would it be possible to head to the village right now, and take down the barrier?" He asked. "So as to provide them the supplies, of course," he clarified.
Though his clarification wasn't entirely the truth as he intended to see if Seiya would be able to put down the barrier they've all been trying to. He also wanted to see the interactions between Seiya and the villagers to clear his doubts.
Seiya turned to the commander, his gaze that of exasperation but masked behind his blindfold. And even though the commander couldn't see his expression, he could feel Seiya's displeasure, causing him to sweat nervously.
"I don't want to walk though," Seiya blurted. "Kaeliyus always teleported me there."
"Ah," the commander breathed. He had thought Seiya's displeasure was over something more serious, but it turned out to be a silly reason.
"We have people with teleportation abilities here. We'll have them teleport us there, no problem," he assured.
"Once I'm done eating then," Seiya said, and the commander nodded in agreement.
As Seiya continued his food in silence, the commander couldn't tear his eyes off him. They were still questions he was hesitating to ask. For he was nervous, and this made his heart beat louder than usual, irritating Seiya.
"If you have anything more to ask, then ask. This might be the last time I'm willing to provide you answers," Seiya told him.
The commander was momentarily caught off guard, realizing Seiya could sense the questions still weighing on his mind. Then again, he hadn't done a particularly good job of hiding them—so it was no surprise Seiya had noticed.
"Are you an awakener?" He shot his question.
"No," Seiya replied simply.
For him to be so strong at such a young age with no awakened ability, he must be exceptional.
The more I look at him, the more curious I get about him.
"Y-your eyes, are you willing to talk about it?" The commander stuttered a bit, finding this particular question of his to weigh a lot.
"No," Seiya refused blatantly. A low, awkward chuckle broke from the commander. Even though he had expected this response, he couldn't get used to his bluntness.
"How about the reason you were unable to sleep then? Do you mind sharing?" He asked, but before Seiya could respond, he continued. "Since I'm soon to be your legal father, it might be good for me to know a bit more about you. That said, I don't want you to feel any pressure."
As he finished eating, Seiya abruptly rose from his chair, surprising the commander.
"I'm done eating, let's head to the village," Seiya said and the commander immediately rose. "I'll answer you on our way there."
The commander immediately called for his assistant to gather some people with teleportation abilities, and also gave orders to restrain Im Seun and his assistant once they came in.
Humanity Saviors with the said ability were gathered, as were some captains and younger ones, including those trio who had previously retrieved Beni from the village—to accompany the captain and Seiya, should any fight break out.
Those who hadn't seen Seiya before were, of course, confused, staring at him with questioning eyes. But no one dared pose any questions even though they were curious.
Without delay, the commander and the Humanity Saviors that were tagging along were teleported to the village. They appeared outside the barrier, just at the village's entrance.
"We are here," the commander breathed, his eyes gleaming with intense excitement and curiosity to see Seiya put down the barrier.
