Chapter 198: The Inaccessible Barrier Finally Taken Down
The Humanity Saviors that had accompanied them lined up at the rear, plenty in number—including the commander's assistant.
And at the front, Seiya and the commander stood, being guarded by the Humanity Saviors. They all watched Seiya with eyes filled with curiosity—waiting for him to do what he was brought to do.
Seiya stood firm in his spot, gaze fixed at the barrier. Wordlessly, he stepped forward, extended his hand and hovered it softly over the barrier.
The commander and the Humanity Saviors watched quietly from behind, doubt already rising in their minds as they thought Seiya was inspecting the barrier.
If he was really the one who had put up the barrier like he claims, why then was he inspecting it? They wondered.
However, in the next moment, Seiya abruptly plunged his hand inside, piercing through the barrier like it was merely made of jelly. This surprised everyone, taking them aback.
Seiya didn't waste a second and walked into the barrier next, leaving the commander and his people outside.
The commander was struck with shock as were the others. The barrier none of them had been able to access was easily penetrated by the young boy. He had easily walked in like it wasn't even there.
But why did he leave them?
Just as they were puzzled, confused by Seiya's actions, Seiya abruptly stuck his head out from the barrier—gazing at them in silence.
They could only gaze back at him in silence, deeply confused. Moments passed by and Seiya wasn't coming out of the barrier, nor was he putting it down to allow them access. He was simply gazing at them in silence as they gazed back like it was some sort of staring competition.
Noting his behavior, the commander chuckled lowly. Ever since he had seen Seiya's capabilities, he's been failing to see him as a child, thereby always getting surprised when he acts his age—silly.
"What are you doing, Sei? Are you going to let us in?" The commander asked, his voice gentle and warm—a tone one would use for their close ones.
Hearing the commander's tone, the Humanity Saviors behind him were a bit taken aback. Although the commander is known as a jovial, gleeful person, he wasn't known as one who would speak with such genuine warmth toward anyone.
His cheerfulness and warm acts had always been seen as cunning to them, drawing a line they should never step over. So, even when the commander laughed with them, they all had it in the back of their minds exactly what kind of a person he was.
However, this….this tone of his radiated genuine warmth, and if they dared admit, it could be called love.
Since only a few of them had actually seen Seiya, the others were deeply confused who the young boy was and why the commander was acting so close with him.
Relaxing his head that it slightly angled downward, Seiya spoke quietly. "I wanted to know from the villagers if they had really demanded any supplies from you…..to confirm whether or not you were lying," Seiya began softly.
At this, the Humanity Saviors, including the commander's assistant who wasn't new to Seiya's way of speaking, were angered. They felt Seiya was indirectly insinuating that their commander could be a liar, which was all in all, an insult toward not only the commander, but themselves.
Their faces turned rigid with anger, twisting tightly with wrinkled brows. But before they had any chance to voice out their concerns or shun Seiya, the commander cut in sharply—for he had felt their displeasure.
"Ah? That's a smart move," he laughed, clapping softly as he commended Seiya's act—indirectly telling his people he wasn't at all offended and they shouldn't shun Seiya.
"But I decided against it," Seiya continued, his head still the only thing sticking out.
"Oh, why's that?" The commander asked, still smiling at him. With the way they conversed, the commander talking so warm and gentle with him, the Humanity Saviors on watch felt unsettled. But they could do nothing but watch in silence.
"Because I could just kill all of you if you try anything in there," Seiya blurted blatantly.
This fueled the Humanity Savior's anger that was already quelling, intensifying their rage as they felt mocked and disrespected.
"What nonsense!" One of the younger HS spat, stepping forward with a face taut with anger.
"How dare you speak so brazenly in front of the commander?! Insulting us like you stand a chance against any of us here!" He shouted, eyes ablaze with fury.
The commander's assistant and the other Humanity Saviors including the captains who were mature, were all in support of the boy standing up to Seiya. They felt insulted, and saw no wrong in putting Seiya in his place.
But before the boy could advance any further to reach Seiya, the commander's arm shot out, blocking the boy.
Naturally, his actions drew surprised and puzzled glances from the others. They couldn't understand why the commander was defending the boy so much, even after being disrespected.
"But commander," one of the captains chided, stepping forward.
"It's okay," the commander raised a hand to halt him mid-step. "Everyone stay where you are," he commanded.
"But—" Another was about to protest but the commander's cold eyes darted to him, settling heavily on him, and silencing him.
A heavy silence fell over the group, the tension thick and awkward.
Turning back to Seiya, the commander returned to his cheerful expression, and warm tone. "So, will you put down the barrier now and let us in?" He asked, a little smile that squinted his eyes on his lips.
"Yes," Seiya replied, drawing his head back in. From the inside, he called softly, "come." The barrier instantly heeded his call, shrinking and returning to its former form—a handkerchief.
From the outside, the commander and his people couldn't see what Seiya said or did, they only saw the barrier vanishing, revealing the village, and the exact moment the handkerchief floated into Seiya's hand from above.
They were momentarily shaken, surprised that Seiya—a young boy—had really taken down the barrier. But the commander and his assistant's surprise was shallow compared to the other's who had never seen Seiya in action.
"Too bad, I wanted to see how he would take it down," the commander muttered under his breath, stepping into the village.
