Rise of the System Slayer

Chapter 18: Abyss Widow

After that unexpected event, Ares remained calm, gazing at the Abyss Widow. He had been kind to them, but things had taken a turn he didn't like, and he would make them pay for this.

"So this is what they've been doing recently," Ares said. He didn't let his emotions carry him away this time—he focused on how to defeat the level 50 Abyss Widow.

Meanwhile, Magnus was still annoyed by Dong Seok.

"T-This bastard! I will report him to my father, and they will regret this!" Magnus said, clenching his fists. As his anger boiled, he noticed that Ares remained calm.

"M-Mr. Ares, why doesn't this seem to bother you?"

"Bother what?" Ares asked.

"This situation! We're going to get eaten by that monster because that bastard betrayed us!"

"Don't worry about them. What's done is done, and we can't change it. Forget that for now First, we need to focus on what's in front of us," Ares said.

Magnus was astonished by Ares's composure.

"Y-You... You're cool, brother. What a fascinating man," Magnus thought, squeezing his eyes shut.

"Ares, however, was growing more annoyed with Magnus, who was visibly uneasy and flustered, shouting. But that was expected from an E-rank first-timer. If it were him back then, he might have reacted the same way.

"Help us! We're getting eaten by a monster!" Magnus shouted, trying to get someone's attention in hopes that they might help them.

Shaking off the distraction, Ares focused on the Abyss Widow. Without hesitation, he pulled out his Serpent Dagger from the system, and a notification appeared before him.

[KILL THE ABYSS WIDOW]

[LEVEL 50]

[0/1]

[REWARD WILL BE GIVEN AFTER DEFEATING IT]

The Abyss Widow quickly landed on the ground and lunged at them. Ares immediately zigzagged, dodging the poisonous webs. Meanwhile, Magnus ran mindlessly, covering his body with his sword.

"D-Damn it! I swear if we survive this, I'm going to report them to my father!" Magnus thought.

While Ares faced the Abyss Widow, Magnus stood beside a mana crystal, praying for Ares's survival.

"Brother, don't die on me!" Magnus yelled.

But Ares couldn't hear him—he was too focused on the battle. Before wasting any more stamina, he summoned all his shadows. In an instant, enormous dark aura figures emerged beside him.

Magnus blinked repeatedly, unable to process what was happening.

"Am I dreaming? Or did I accidentally get hit by poison that causes hallucinations?" he thought, his eyes wide with disbelief.

"Is he really an E-rank?"

"Why the hell is this E-rank so damn strong?! Are E-ranks supposed to be this powerful, or is he just built differently?!" Magnus thought, completely dumbfounded.

Ares's shadow immediately charged at the Abyss Widow and started slashing every part of its tentacles, its liquid splattering onto the ground. While they battled, Ares noticed something.

"There's something wrong," Ares thought, trying to figure out what was happening. While they battled, his shadow was overwhelming the level 50 Abyss Widow, and Ares finally realized what had been bothering him.

"Yeah, I know it now... Why is this level 50 monster powerless against my shadow compared to the monsters in the Demon Castle?" Ares was dumbfounded by what he saw, Compared to the monsters in the Demon Castle, his shadow was actually overpowering the Abyss Widow. Even Magnus, standing beside the mana crystal, couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"Is this really an E-rank battle?" Magnus muttered, questioning himself in the situation. His eyes were locked on the battle. Observing every move with an unreadable gaze.

"If this continues, I don't even need to join the battle. It's just my army handling it," Ares thought.

"But first, let me check my army's status."

He quickly opened his status screen to inspect his army.

[Summon Shadows 49/52]

-Level 4

-Total HP → 2000

-Total Attack → 1,150

-Total Defense → 1,000]

Ares was shocked to see that nothing had changed in his army's status. It was simply that his shadows were overwhelming the Abyss Widow with their relentless attacks. An hour had passed, and the Abyss Widow was beginning to fall. It was only a matter of time before it was completely defeated.

Ares smirked, but his mind was still filled with confusion. Only four of the Abyss Widow's tentacles remained, and his shadows continued to steadily cut them down. He counted every minute as the tentacles were severed one by one."

Slash! Slash!

Now, only one tentacle remained. The Abyss Widow roared in defiance, still fighting for its life. But before it could react, Ares delivered the final blow—he pierced through its eye, driving his weapon all the way down to the bottom. Green liquid splattered across the ground as the monster let out one last shriek before collapsing. The Abyss Widow finally died, and a transparent screen appeared before him, displaying the reward.

[You have defeated the Abyss Widow!]

[You have received a reward!]

After opening his reward, he received ten unassigned points in his status, along with an artifact.

His eyes widened, and his lips parted in shock at what he saw. He didn't expect to find exactly what he had been looking for.

[You have received a Soulwell Pendant.]

Description-> A delicate crystal pendant that hums with warmth as if it has a heartbeat of its own. It quietly gathers the mana its wearer uses, gradually increasing their maximum MP by 1% for every 500 MP spent while also enhancing mana recovery over time. When exhaustion sets in, it releases stored energy, restoring 10% of the wearer's MP to help them stay standing.

"Damn, this is exactly what I need!" Ares thought, unable to hold back a laugh of amusement.

[Will you accept this?]

[Yes] / [No]

Without hesitation, Ares quickly tapped "Yes" and placed the pendant around his neck. The moment he did, he felt a surge of power course through his body, making him feel stronger.

Since he had used all of his MP earlier to summon his shadows, the pendant began to glow, and his mana was restored.

MP: 505

"Damn, I thought it would take a long time to find a way to increase my MP, but this…! And on top of that, it'll increase even more if I drink the potion in my system."

While Ares stood atop the corpse of the Abyss Widow, Magnus immediately ran toward him, tears in his eyes, 'Brother, you're so cool! I never thought you were this strong!' Magnus shouted, waving his hands excitedly as he rushed to Ares."

But before Magnus could reach Ares, the ground began to tremble, shaking their surroundings. Cracks started to spread beneath them, and the trembling grew stronger until they lost their balance. Suddenly, they fell into something unknown.

Magnus lost consciousness. When he woke up, the air around him had turned cold, and his surroundings felt eerily chilling. He stared, shivering from the cold.
