RWBY : Remnant Hulk

Chapter 4: Old Man

The warm afternoon sun bathed Beacon Academy in a golden hue as Team RWBY followed Glynda down the winding path leading away from the academy grounds. Curiosity buzzed among the four girls as they continued questioning their guide.

"So," Ruby piped up, stepping lightly to keep pace with Glynda, "what kind of person is your teacher?"

Glynda let out a small sigh, as if she had expected this line of questioning. "He's... very old," she finally admitted, glancing ahead as if lost in thought. "And he has a habit of pampering people."

"Wait, wait, wait—" Yang interjected with a smirk. "Are you telling me that this guy used to pamper you?"

Glynda's steps faltered slightly before she nodded. "Yes. Not just me—Professor Port, Doctor Oobleck… even Headmaster Ozpin, in a way."

Blake and Weiss exchanged surprised glances.

"Professor Port and Doctor Oobleck?" Weiss repeated, clearly trying to process the image.

"I can't imagine either of them being... pampered," Blake added, her tone more intrigued than doubtful.

"What do you mean by pampered?" Ruby asked, tilting her head.

Glynda adjusted her glasses. "I mean that he was always very doting. Always looking after people, giving advice, and making sure everyone was taken care of. Even the professors at Beacon have received their fair share of his attention."

Yang let out a low whistle. "Huh. Kinda hard to picture that. I mean, Professor Port always brags about his heroism, and Doctor Oobleck is so… fast."

"Well," Glynda said, "even heroes and scholars need someone to look after them."

Weiss, ever the skeptic, pressed further. "How old is he, exactly?"

Glynda simply responded, "Older than Professor Port."

Silence followed for a moment before the team collectively gasped.

Ruby was the first to break it. "Older than Professor Port? That's like... ancient!"

Yang chuckled, nudging her little sister. "So what, are we delivering food to a mummy?"

Glynda shot her a sharp glare, and Yang quickly raised her hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, sorry."

"I'd hope so," Glynda said flatly. "You're about to meet someone who has more knowledge and experience than most people in this kingdom. Show some respect."

"Alright, alright, I'll behave." Yang repeated, rolling her eyes playfully.

Blake, meanwhile, was deep in thought. "If he's really that old and has looked after so many people, why have we never heard of him before?"

Glynda's lips curled slightly, as if she found the question amusing. "Not everyone seeks recognition. Some prefer to do good quietly."

As much as they wanted to ask more, Glynda seemed unwilling to elaborate further. Instead, she continued leading them down the path, the air filled with the sounds of nature as they ventured further away from Beacon's main buildings.

After a few more minutes of walking, Glynda suddenly stopped and gestured ahead. "We're here."

Team RWBY looked up—and their jaws nearly dropped.

Before them stretched a breathtaking garden, vast and vibrant. Countless colorful flowers swayed gently in the breeze, their petals catching the sunlight like tiny stained glass windows. Towering trees stood like sentinels, their thick branches forming a natural canopy. Stone pathways wound elegantly through the landscape, guiding visitors through its tranquil beauty. The scent of fresh earth and blooming flora filled the air.

Ruby spun around, her silver eyes sparkling with excitement. "This is so pretty!"

Weiss crossed her arms but couldn't hide the admiration in her voice. "I didn't expect something like this so close to Beacon."

Blake remained quiet, but her golden eyes roamed the area, appreciating the sheer care that must have gone into maintaining such a place.

"Who even takes care of all this?" Blake asked. "This must require constant maintenance."

"It does," Glynda confirmed. "And it's all done by one man."

Yang, hands on her hips, smirked. "Alright, so where's the grandpa?"

The team began to explore the garden, taking in the sights and the peaceful atmosphere. It didn't take long before they noticed movement among the flower beds.

A lone figure was tending to a patch of vibrant blossoms, his back slightly hunched as he carefully trimmed stray leaves with a pair of gardening shears.

He was very old—even from a distance, they could see his age in the way his shoulders sloped and how his hands, though steady, moved with the practiced slowness of experience.

He wore simple gardening attire—a worn-out shirt, loose trousers, and an old sun hat that drooped slightly over his face. A pair of round glasses sat on the bridge of his nose, slightly fogged up from his work. He stood at 189 cm tall, a surprisingly commanding presence despite his frail appearance.

Despite his aged look, his height caught Team RWBY off guard.

"Wait a second… he's this tall and he's even older than Professor Port?" Weiss whispered.

"He doesn't look that frail for someone so old," Blake noted, her golden eyes narrowing in thought.

Ruby blinked. "I was expecting a tiny grandpa, but he's huge!"

Yang grinned. "Tall, wise, and can probably throw a mean punch. I think I like this guy already."

The team came to a halt, watching him in quiet curiosity.

Ruby, unable to hold back her usual enthusiasm, took a step forward and called out, "Hello! Are you Ozpin's old friend?"

The man paused mid-trim, the shears in his hand hovering over a rose. Then, ever so slowly, he turned around to face them.

His eyes, though wrinkled with age, were sharp and clear, holding an air of quiet wisdom. A small smile tugged at his lips as he regarded the young huntresses before him.

"Ah," he said, his voice warm and gentle. "So you must be Glynda's students."

Glynda stepped forward and dipped her head slightly in respect. "It's good to see you again, sir."

The old man chuckled, stepping closer. Then, to the shock of Team RWBY, he gently reached out and patted Glynda's head. "My dear Glynda, always so serious. You haven't changed a bit."

Glynda stiffened, her cheeks instantly flushing red. "S-Sir, please…!" she muttered, clearly embarrassed.

Yang elbowed Weiss playfully. "Did you see that? Glynda just got head-patted like a kid. This guy's a legend."

The old man turned his gaze back to the team. "Welcome to my garden. I'm glad to have visitors. It's been a while since I've had new faces around here. My name is Dr. Bruce Banner."

Ruby grinned. "It's really beautiful! You take care of all of this by yourself?"

The man nodded. "Indeed. It keeps me busy. And it gives me time to think."

Blake continued to observe him carefully, as if trying to piece together a puzzle.

"Now then," Dr. Banner said, "shall we sit for some tea? I imagine you have many questions."
