Chapter 56: Meeting in the Old Volantis (1)
Walking through the commercial district of Old Volantis was an experience in itself because it was vastly different from the Cartharys or even from the outside Volantis.
While the merchant district in the Cartharys was lively and full of people, to the point that it was often problematic to move around as the city was constantly bustling with people and there were countless of them, it wasn't the situation here.
On the streets of the merchant district within the Old Volantis, there were only a few people walking, mostly the pure-blooded Valyrians; some dwarves were here and there, then some rich merchants from the other City-States.
But Valkorion also saw the people from the Golden Empire of Yi Ti or the merchants from the underground kingdoms of the dwarves. There were even some merchants from the distant lands of Westeros who were here to buy exotic materials to sell them at outrageous prices back home.
Not only that, but the goods that were being sold here were far more exotic and luxurious than anything being sold in the Cartharys. However, that was understandable, as within the Cartharys, people were mainly dealing with the parts and Ingredients of the monster from the Extraordinary Creatures or Alchemical Ingredients.
As he was walking through the streets and observing the architectural wonders of the Valyrian Civilization, as this was the first Valyrian City that he had ever visited, several merchants already tried to sell him some stuff.
They were probably thinking that he was someone rich, judging by the outfit that he was wearing, because even though he looked like a rag-tag hunter or something, those with a keen eye would be able to discern its true value and worth.
Not like he had any of it, as he went directly for the store of the Ferros Clan.
In fact, it wasn't actually that hard to find because it was the most opulent shop within the entire merchant district.
It seemed that the Volantis served as secondary headquarters for the Ferros Clan and was the most important commercial hub for the business conducted with the City-States to the west, then Kingdoms in the Westeros and Kingdoms in the North of Essos, mainly the Kingdom of Sarnor, Kingdom of Omberand Kingdom of Ifequevron.
Because this branch was facilitating the business between several of the most populous and largest kingdoms, the branch itself reflected that in the way it was built and how large it was.
To the point where even Valkorion was surprised because it seemed unnecessarily luxurious, but he understood that the Ferros Clan was flexing their wealth on this. It was mainly a matter of prestige and projecting their success and might, something that the Clan Ferros was doing splendidly.
The main reason why he was coming to the branch of the Ferros Clan in the Volantis was to grab some supplies that were already prepared for him by the employees of the Ferros Clan, as Albus Ferros took care of everything in this regard for him.
When he entered the branch headquarters of the Ferros Clan in the Volantis, he was greeted with the enormous building from the inside, and it seemed that there were rather a lot of people today.
Something that he didn't really expect.
One of the main branches of the Ferros Chamber of Commerce was an awe-inspiring structure, blending magic with traditional architecture, symbolizing both the ancient roots and future ambitions of trade and industry.
The building itself was a grandiose palace of dark stone and crystal, perched atop a bustling hill in the heart of a Old Volantis; one could say that the Branch of the Ferros Chamber of Commerce was in the heart of the city, among some of the very first buildings that were ever built here by the Valyrians.
Its facade was adorned with intricate carvings of Mythical Creatures, mostly Dragons as they were in the Valyrian Freehold, but there were also some images depicting the other Mythical Creatures and Extraordinary Creatures as Griffins and Phoenixes and a few runes that were carved into the stone.
Towering spires rose toward the sky, shimmering with enchantments that change their hue with the passage of time, reflecting the moods of the city below. If there was one thing that he learned about the architecture of the Valyrian Freehold, they loved building things high in the sky, because of the Dragons and Dragon-rider culture of the Freehold.
The entrance was a massive archway made of enchanted marble, constantly swirling with Arcane Sigils, Dragonese Runes, and other symbols that track market fluctuations and magical contracts. Clan Ferros was rather thorough in their contracts, and they were using some of the most potent Geases in their contracts with their clients.
Massive double doors made from black metals, bound with silver inlays, glowed faintly with the same runes that were engraved on the entrance.
Above the archway, there was a symbol of the Ferros Clan engraved with blue letters; their square symbol was there proudly, and beneath it were the family words "For family, will I give" in the golden font.
Inside, the vast central hall had a domed ceiling, enchanted to appear as a map of the known world of Faerûn as Valkorion could see the contientns of Westeros, Essos, Sothoryos and Ulthuan. On the map, there were also some other objects like Nihon, Summer Islands, Leng, and other areas that were marked as possible continents that were to be found and explored.
One thing that caught his attention was the apparent continent north of the Westeros, something that was no smaller than that of the Westeros in size and was enormous in size.
That certainly wasn't part of the ASOIAF canon that he knew for sure, and for whatever reason, he heard about this continent only from the rumors as there were not many explorers that ventured into that place as it was surrounded by permanent fog that prohibited anyone from entering.
In the center was an enormous crystalline orb, something like a globe that was pulsating with like and constantly displaying the location of all major trade routes and economic hubs across Westeros, Essos, and Sothoryos.
Even the distant routes leading to the Elven Empire were displayed in the place.
The floor beneath was made from polished marble, giving the place an even more luxurious feel as countless clerks were walking around the entire place, clad in professional uniforms as they were almost indistinguishable from the clothes alone.
"It seems that we have visitors here... this time, you are using the official entrance; that is a good thing, I suppose."
As Valkorion was wondering at the beauty of the place, he was rather and deeply surprised to hear the voice of Camille Ferros at this place. He didn't expect to meet the woman at the Volantis because the last time they called each other through the Glass Candle, she told him that she was going to the Kingdom of Sarnor.
"I didn't know that you would be here, last time you told me that you were en route to the Sarnor's Capital Sarnath."
Kingdom of the Sarnor was one of the major trading partners with the Valyrian Freehold, so the Ferros Clan they were obviously one of the prime targets for their expansion and business activities.
