Chapter 57: Meeting in the Old Volantis (2)

"I am, but one of the managers in this branch messed up a very important contract, so I would remain here to repair the damages, or at least those which could still be. Really, how stupid people can be to a degree where they can't even do their basic job anymore."

She said with a voice that sent shivers to several more unlucky people who passed by and were able to hear what she said, and even Valkorion had to admire her ferocity.

Because they had been in constant for a few months already, rather often talking through the Glass Candles, Valkorion knew that if there was one thing that Camille Ferros wouldn't tolerate under any circumstances, it would be incompetence.

She hated the incompetence of people and if someone messed up their job, especially if they were told what they were supposed to do step by step. He could imagine that the poor sod that angered her had a very terrible ending; most likely, death would be salvation.

If he caused some losses to the Ferros with it, then for sure.

If he also caused them to lose some reputation, then absolutely, and even his immediate family, would be implicated rather severely.

That one was clear, as Camille could be pretty vengeful, and she maintained the disciple with the iron hand.

She wasn't chosen as the leader of the Ferros Clan for nothing.

Her achievements were considerable in the area of business even despite her young age.

"Then you have one employee less as it seems."

Valkorion chuckled, not really caring about the life of someone whom he never met, though if he had to admit, he was adhering to social Darwinism even during his life on Earth. Being in the world where might makes right, only felt natural to him.

Like he was finally at the place where he belonged to.

"Good riddance; hopefully, he will acclimatize to a new life as a slave in the New Ghis, and his wife and daughters will have a nice time as sex slaves in the Lys."

Hearing that, he wanted to frown a little, but at the same time, he wondered what he messed up so badly, that he and his entire family were sold to slavery. Ending in the New Ghis wasn't really nice ending because it was the center of the slave civilization, and the treatment of the slaves in the New Ghis was the worst in the known world.

"So, what has the man done to earn such ire from The Razor's Edge Camille Ferros?"

Right now he was begging to grow curious about such as he asked the woman, during time they walked to the private logue to have a private talk.

"Aside from not doing his job properly, because if he had, then this wouldn't have happened, as he forgot to send the goods to the Sarnor. Around five years ago, the Ferros Chamber of Commerce started slowly expanding into the Kingdom of Sarnor under my leadership, and now, my efforts during those five years went to shit because that fucking idiot faked the delivery and sent the wrong merchandise to the Sarnorian Great Nobles and sold them weapons from the fake Valyrian Steel and falsified grades of the Sealed Artifacts, because the original shipment was due to his mistake destroyed by the raid of the Dothraki Khalasar. But the man decided to hide the fact and went to solve it this way... and now, the Sarnor is basically revoking several of the merchant permits, and the reputation of the Ferros Clan is tarnished forever."

Now that he was hearing the entire story, he understood why she was pissed beyond the normal reason. This was indeed a tremendous setback for the entire Chamber of Commerce, because from what he knew; the Sarnorians were rather closed off to the foreign merchants.

It was rather hard to obtain a permit to sell goods in their country, and Valkorion knew that the Clan Ferros had invested a lot of resources into this endeavor.

Especially if the business was connected to the Great Noble Houses of the Sarnor, Saints backed some of them, and there was at least one Angel or so behind them and the Royal House of Sarnor.

Now, the Ferros Chamber of Commerce would lose everything it has built in the Kingdom of Sarnor during the five years or so, and most probably, it would take even more resources to return its influence to the Sarnor once again.

"That is the most unfortunate situation..."

He managed to say after some time the grey-haired woman frowned at him strongly.

"You can leave that fake polite talk for someone else and for someone who cares."

She said that Camille knew very well that Valkorion was saying it mostly because it was a societal norm or something.

"I am aware, but you know... though, that raises a question of how would Dothraki ever know of the shipment and what would give them the courage to dare attack it and plunder the goods, as they are normally avoiding the merchant caravans with the flag of Ferros Clan like a plague."

That was probably the most important question for the day: because the Dothraki, as cowardly as they were and living in false delusions of honor and grandeur, would never attack someone who was far more powerful than them.

Of course, that was under the assumption of the premise that they had Khal, who wasn't an absolute madman, so Valkorio figured out that someone must have used the Dothraki as their pawn against the Ferros Clan, most possibly.

Or there was also a chance that this was just a stupid coincidence, but that was rather unlikely. That would be a rather very, very bad piece of bad luck...

"I thought the same and sent my people to investigate. At the same time, we are preparing to strike at the Khalasar that attacked our merchant caravan to retrieve the goods, but that would take some time, as the Khalasar is rather large and has around fifteen thousand warriors and more than one hundred Beyonders, according to the preliminary information. Most probably, I would need to invite some Dragon Riders for the task."

Ferros Clan was rich enough to employ the service of the Dragon Riders from the Dragonlord Families. In fact, not even members of the 40 Dragonlord Families that were Dragon Riders weren't really rich.

Some of the members of the collateral branches would need to work for their resources to maintain their lifestyle and money for the Beyonder Ingredients and other things. This allowed the Clan Ferros to recruit such people for some tasks that needed to be done.

And because most of the Beyonders that the Khalasar had were Low Sequences and the only minority was Mid Sequence, adult Dragons would be far more than enough to deal with them.

One adult Dragon was a Sequence 4 Extraordinary Creature, and depending on the breed of the Dragon, they could be more powerful than the Beyonder of the same grade. Or rather, they were definitely more powerful than the Beyonder of the same Sequence.

"That would be pricy, won't it?"

In fact, Valkorion didn't really know if it would be pricy or not, as he had never really researched this kind of information, but at least he thought so.
