Chapter 69: 69: Items of Fate
Zabuza stared at Shen Mo, his mouth twitching.
This was exactly what he wanted most!
Break the bracelet's contract and let Haku use it.
But, seeing Shen Mo's calm face, Zabuza felt a flicker of unease. The more cans he opened, the more he sensed this merchant's terrifying nature.
Unfathomable tricks, eyes that pierced hearts, mysterious cans, and their magical gear—all beyond his wildest imagination.
Like a being above the world.
Could…
He be right?
Zabuza shivered, goosebumps rising.
He had to break the contract!
Self-hypnotizing, he steeled himself and kept opening cans, tense and uneasy.
Unfortunately…
Shen Mo caught that thought.
This useful?
Shen Mo smirked inwardly. Sure, he'd love to see Haku in the Kämpfer Bracelet, but money trumped that. Since Zabuza cared so much, he'd dangle the contract-breaker as bait until the job-change item, hooking him until he hit the target can count, then give both.
But first, more goodies.
On Zabuza's 410th Level 2 can…
A metallic glint appeared.
"This is…"
Zabuza held a massive weapon, oversized for a Level 2 can, hesitating as he named it.
"—Scissors?"
Yes, a flamboyant, broad-handled sword-like weapon.
Teigu—All-Cutting: Ecstasy!
"This?" Shen Mo raised a brow, nostalgic. "Rare for Level 2 cans to yield such a weapon."
"It's strong?" Zabuza asked, gripping it, his face shifting instantly.
It felt like his stamina was draining.
Not fast, but as if the weapon were alive.
"Teigu, the class of weapon," Shen Mo explained timely. "All Teigu are crafted from dangerous beasts' parts with secret arts. In theory, one person can wield only one. This, 'All-Cutting: Ecstasy,' claims to cut anything in the world."
"Anything" had some exaggeration.
A true conceptual weapon would bankrupt Shen Mo.
Its System value: 24,000 trading points.
Zabuza slowly opened it.
The inner blade gleamed with blinding sharpness.
"Fine weapon," Zabuza said, instantly smitten. "Size like my Decapitating Carving Knife, outer blade razor-sharp. Haku, test it with the Knife."
"Okay."
Haku raised the Decapitating Carving Knife. Zabuza aimed at its tip.
Snap.
One of Mist's Seven Ninja Blades snapped clean.
Zabuza barely felt resistance.
"So sharp!?" He was floored.
The Decapitating Carving Knife's strength was blood-absorption and self-repair, but its durability far surpassed normal weapons.
Truly All-Cutting!
Zabuza's joy surged. As a ninja, he was obsessed with strong weapons.
"Lord Zabuza," Haku said, eyeing their 35 million ryō left. "You've got a handy weapon now. Your Earth Set and my Forest Set each need one last piece. Keep going?"
Zabuza's face froze.
Only 35 million?
The last cans didn't yield Haku's final piece, but Zabuza's Earth Set gained two, also one shy.
"Open them," Zabuza said, new weapon's thrill fading, almost reckless. "What's left can't do much. Blow it all."
Billions spent already.
Why care about a few million?
Zabuza fell into the gacha trap—big spending dulled the sting.
And…
No contract-breaker yet!
His eye twitched, wincing at his hard-earned fortune, then looking away.
"Sir, I want all remaining funds for cans!"
"Done."
Shen Mo was thrilled, waving up seventy Level 2 cans.
Just a dozen more, and Zabuza's tapped out.
"You could sell ninjutsu memories or experience," Shen Mo suggested casually. "Last ten Level 2 or first ten Level 3 cans often yield fate-altering items. Stronger desire, higher odds."
"Fate-altering items?"
Zabuza frowned, eyeing Shen Mo, who seemed done talking.
After a pause…
He held back.
Though his strength now leaned on orbs and gear, he couldn't part with the ninjutsu that sustained him.
He'd earn more later.
Shen Mo read this, a bit disappointed but silent.
His new rule:
Anyone buying fifty Level 2 can sets, earning Level 3 access, gets a "fate-altering item."
Maybe a job-change item, maybe a permanent growth ability, like Tsunade's. The core: fuel future can buys.
If Zabuza didn't bite, so be it.
Don't get comfy before then…
Shen Mo glanced at him meaningfully.
Zabuza was lost in his final seventy cans.
Finally—
In the mid-thirties, Haku's Forest Set's last piece dropped.
Complete!
Even a tough guy like Zabuza felt like roaring to the sky, thinking his billions weren't wasted.
"Try it on?" he urged Haku, eager.
Though a short-skirted women's set, it fit Haku perfectly.
The moment Haku donned the final bracer, bright pale green light surged, swirling winds whistling around him. Against this, his fair skin and delicate face made him a stunning forest elf.
The visual alone sent Zabuza's mood soaring.
