Chapter 144: The Lost Kingdom

Chu Wuyao's eyes landed on the ominous black crown that moved on its own and landed in her hands, but she didn't feel happy about it.

When seeing an item of unknown origin, her first reaction was not to keep it to herself, but instead, to throw it away.

That was true even when that item seemed able to allow its user to significantly increase their strength.

Without any hesitation, Chu Wuyao acted according to her thoughts and threw the crown away, while her hand turned into a fist and punched it.

"Boom!"

Her fist landed on the black crown and the force caused the space around the two of them to tremble, looking as if it was about to shatter.

However, to Chu Wuyao's surprise, this attack, which would have injured even a Holy Realm practitioner if it were to land on them, didn't cause any damage to the crown, not even a crack.

Seeing this, she didn't stop but continued attacking the crown using her physical body and various spells, but no matter how hard she tried, she was unable to cause even the slightest damage to it.

Moreover, every time Chu Wuyao tried to step back, this ominous crown would follow right behind her, as if it was afraid that she would run away.

Obviously, this crown seemed to possess certain intelligence.

Understanding that there was nothing she could do to get rid of it, and since the crown didn't seem to pose any possible threat to her for the time being, Chu Wuyao decided to take a closer look at it and try to understand its purpose.

Since it was following her, it should have some kind of purpose, right?

It was only now, when Chu Wuyao paid attention to it, that she found that there were many creatures painted with red paint on the crown's surface, and from the metallic smell that assaulted her nose, it was fairly obvious that this "paint" was actually blood.

When she saw this, she remembered the backlash that Irene suffered after she used it to cast that black hole and understood that this item shouldn't be a righteous item and was most likely an evil one.

It should have been strange for the High Priest of the Holy Church to possess such an item, but Chu Wuyao had already seen through the world and understood that there were very few differences between the so-called righteous forces and the evil ones.

In her mind, righteous forces were just evil forces that had a better public image.

Shaking her head and suppressing these inexplicable, strange thoughts, Chu Wuyao turned her attention back to the crown that was floating in front of her.

On its surface, there were millions of tiny ant-like creatures painted and they all seemed to be gathering around a "giant" throne and kneeling on the ground.

This throne was gray, made out of bones of all kinds of different creatures, and there was a blurry figure sitting in it.

The figure was wearing a majestic black armor that covered the entirety of their body, including their limbs and head.

The only feature of this figure that was revealed was a pair of fire-like green eyes that seemed to contain a strange, captivating charm.

The moment Chu Wuyao's gaze landed on these green eyes, she felt her vision becoming blurry and the next second, many images flashed in her field of vision.

Chu Wuyao felt as if she was watching individual frames of a very long movie, and the protagonist of this movie was a very young man.

Through watching this "movie", Chu Wuyao was able to observe the life of this young man from a third-person perspective.

From his life, she was quickly able to understand that this young man was the Crown Prince of a small kingdom that was located at the edge of the continent, with a population of a few hundred thousand people.

Chu Wuyao watched calmly as this young man went from a curious, immature child who followed his mother everywhere, to a heroic young man who had become a Great Warrior.

Later, when the King died due to his old age, this young man inherited the throne of the Moon Kingdom and with his strength, he was able to take control over it.

Slowly, this young man grew up and as years went by, he became a wise, powerful King who cared about his subjects and did everything in his power to make their lives better.

With his strength and charisma, the small kingdom soon started expanding and quickly annexed the surrounding kingdoms, and then, the entire continent.

By the time he became middle-aged, the man had unified the whole continent and his name resounded throughout the world.

The Moon Kingdom was now huge, as big as the current Sun Kingdom if not even bigger.

However, compared to the Sun Kingdom, there was no Holy Church with a supreme status meddling in the Moon Kingdom's affairs, nor was there a Demon Cult that would create trouble by killing innocent civilians from time to time.

This meant that the Moon King had complete control over the Kingdom and he was able to command every single one of the Holy Realm practitioners, as well as the other forces of the kingdom.

Chu Wuyao continued watching these images and "personally" witnessed the Moon King suppressing this entire continent.

Whether it was the demons, the believers of the gods, or the other nobles, they were all suppressed using his iron fist.

The prosperity of this kingdom made Chu Wuyao a little confused, as she had gone through the entire library of the Holy Church and could be considered a very knowledgeable person regarding this world's history.

Yet, she had never seen or heard anything about the Moon Kingdom, as if it never existed.

But judging by the strength of this kingdom, it seemed unimaginable that it would be destroyed without leaving behind any trace in this world's history.

While Chu Wuyao was deep in thought, the "movie" in front of her continued playing.

Most of the following images were about the boring everyday life of the Moon King, which Chu Wuyao was not interested in.

But soon, when another image appeared, her interest was piqued. Discover exclusive content at My Virtual Library Empire

In the imperial palace at the capital of the Moon Kingdom, the Moon King was kneeling on the ground and his index finger touched the floor, leaving behind many strange black runes.

The King's movements were very fast and soon, the whole floor of the palace was covered in these complicated black runes, which would cause anyone who saw them to inevitably become dizzy.

Even Chu Wuyao was a little confused when she saw these runes, she was unable to judge what their use was and could only see that they were part of a larger formation.

However, it wouldn't take long for Chu Wuyao to finally understand.

One night, while the moon was shining brightly in the sky, a bottomless darkness surged out of the imperial palace and spread everywhere around it.

Soon, this darkness had spread throughout the capital, engulfing every person that blocked its way.

Whether it was the many Holy Realm practitioners, the Great Warriors and the Great Magicians, or the ordinary mortal citizens, they all had the exact same end, with the bottomless darkness swallowing their bodies.

When she saw this scene, Chu Wuyao had a guess about what the purpose of the Moon King was.

Indeed, her guess was confirmed, as a few seconds later, the bottomless darkness rushed back to the imperial palace, and the capital was revealed once again.

But now, the once-prosperous capital had been completely destroyed.

The houses were in ruins, the trees and flowers had withered and even the earth below had lost its color and turned black.

Only the people of the kingdom remained standing in place, still standing as they did before this darkness swallowed them.

It's just that unlike before, these people could no longer be considered humans, or even living creatures.

Their flesh and blood had completely disappeared, and only a thin skeleton remained in their place, standing upright.

In each of the eye sockets of these creatures, a green fire burned brightly and the way it moved seemed to suggest that these people were not only still alive but they also possessed certain intelligence.

Unfortunately, before Chu Wuyao could confirm whether this was true or not, there was no next image, as if the "movie" had ended.

In the final image, hundreds of thousands of undead creatures were staring expressionlessly toward the imperial palace in the distance.

"Kill everyone! Kill the whole world! Kill the Gods!!", a loud shout that was filled with madness and despair echoed in Chu Wuyao's ears, and the next moment, the image suddenly shattered into pieces like a broken mirror.

When Chu Wuyao recovered and returned to reality, the ominous dark crown was still floating in front of her and there was still a seemingly endless red land under her feet.

Although she felt that she had spent days, if not months, watching the life of the Moon King, only a few seconds had actually passed in reality and everything remained the same, as if what she had seen before was just an illusion.
