Chapter 801: Delivering the Message
While Lilith was busy outside the mansion, Damien was having a one-on-one meeting with the ruler of the Hell realm.
Lucifer was sitting down on his lavish throne while resting his head on his palm, and his palm was resting on the armrest that resembled the skull of a giant pre-historic monster.
The expression on his face told that he was greatly distressed by the things that he had just heard from the young demon who was standing in front of him with his hands on the back and his gaze lowered.
"So, you're telling me that the soul of my daughter has finally taken another form? And that she has been existing for 25 years?" Lucifer asked while trying his best to control the overwhelming emotions from engulfing him whole.
Damien nodded his head and agreed. "Yes, Your Majesty. I also just found out yesterday."
There was a deafening silence between the two of them for a good few minutes. Lucifer was trying to wrap everything up in his head.
After taking his time to process that information, Lucifer inhaled deeply and asked with a shaky breath, "How does she look like?"
"She's very beautiful. She's a very powerful witch," Damien replied without hesitation.
Lucifer glanced at Damien and asked some more questions, "How are her current parents? And you said that she's married already, right? Are her in-laws treating her well?"
Damien gave a short but reassuring smile to Lucifer. And he answered truthfully, "Her current parents raised her with great love and care. I've met them a couple of times before, and I have seen how much they pampered her. And as for her in-laws, they look nice. Her husband takes good care of her."
"And you told me that she is a relative of Theodore, right?" Lucifer asked after adjusting himself.
"Yes. Her father is Queen Adeline's half-brother," he replied.
Lucifer was very glad to know that even if he wasn't there in the Earth realm to look after her like a guardian angel, his brother was there. He was sure that his brother would act like her guardian angel on his behalf.
"Does Theodore know?" Lucifer asked Damien, hoping to ask for a favor if his brother wasn't already aware of Joyce's identity.
"Yes, he does know now," Damien answered again.
Lucifer's question-answer series wasn't over just yet. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and glared at Damien. And he asked in his guttural voice, "Zobekker plant, was it? The plant that you stole from my garden."
Damien instantly lowered his head even more, and sincerely apologized to Lucifer, "I apologize for what I did as a child with inadequate knowledge. I am ashamed of my behavior. Please, punish me as you see fit, Your Majesty."
"Hmm…" Lucifer hummed and kept on glaring at Damien for a while.
He was thinking hard about whether to get angry at the boy for taking something from the Hell realm to the Earth realm and risking the safety of his daughter's soul or to praise him for carrying out a significant part in the revelation about his daughter's soul.
Damien didn't want to get scared of the King of Hell. However, from the way Lucifer was glaring at him, he felt as though Lucifer was directly staring into his soul. He was getting chills in his bones from that cold glare. And if possible, he didn't want to get punished by him. No matter how light of a punishment Lucifer would give him, he was sure that it would be too much for him to bear.
Thus, Damien quickly mentioned something before Lucifer decided to punish him, "Your Majesty, there's also something I need to tell you. Joyce had sent a message for you."
The piercing glare of Lucifer disappeared the moment he heard that Damien had brought a message for him. He looked at Damien with eager eyes and asked, "Then why didn't you say so earlier? Tell me, what did she say?"
"She umm…" Damien wondered whether to start with the hurtful bit or with the consoling bit of Joyce's message.
Lucifer instantly looked restless when Damien paused for a mere second. "Yes? I am listening!" he asserted, prompting Damien to blurt out everything.
"You know how she had the recurring dream about her dea… about that battle, and how she had been constantly seeing you, trying to save her. She asked me to tell you that it wasn't your fault that she died that day. She thinks that you might have been blaming yourself for not being able to save her in time."
Lucifer was suddenly overwhelmed by that guilt that he had suppressed deep down in his heart. The images of his daughter getting stabbed by the spear and falling down to her death started to dance in front of his eyes.
"How can I not blame myself?" he growled, enraged at himself. His eyes glowed bright red in color when he kept on snarling, "If only I was a couple of seconds faster… She wouldn't have died an untimely death. She would still be with me! She…"
Lucifer's voice suddenly broke down. He started to feel suffocated, his throat parched, and his eyes filled with tears. He coughed and loosened the collar of his cloth.
Damien knitted his brows together in worry. His words were having the opposite effect on Lucifer.
He quickly tried to give him her full message, "Your Majesty, with all due respect, that wasn't all that Joyce said."
When Lucifer's attention was back on him, Damien further said, "She also said that you were a great father and that you did your best. And she said that she has a small piece of your world with her. She was grateful that the plant from your garden is now looking out for her in your stead."
Lucifer closed his eye and looked down in an attempt to hide his tears from Damien. He was unable to hold his tears upon hearing those sincere words from Joyce.
"Even when I couldn't save her, she still thinks that I was a great father?" he mumbled softly.
"She saw the sincerity in your eyes and your screams, I guess. She was crying when she asked me to pass the message to you," Damien further revealed.
Lucifer looked at Damien and asked, "Why was she crying? I hope it wasn't out of hatred towards me." Experience more on My Virtual Library Empire
"No… why would she hate you?" Damien furrowed his brows and said what he had observed, "She respects you a lot. She was crying because she could feel your pain. She said she was sorry for not being able to protect herself and for leaving you forever."
"I should be the one apologizing!" Lucifer covered his eyes as a few drops of tears rolled down his cheeks.
Damien wasn't planning on saying this now and making Lucifer worry. But, in the heat of the moment, things slipped out of his mouth.
"If you still regret not being able to protect her the last time then I think the least you can do is protect her this time." He angrily gritted his teeth and revealed, "Michael attacked us yesterday. And he also came face to face with Joyce."
Lucifer instantly jumped up on his feet and instantly displayed his true devil form. And his growl resounded throughout the pandemonium, "What did you say? Michael?"
