Chapter 805: Pale
The next morning, everything seemed to have calmed down a little. Those who still had the recollection of the events that happened yesterday and the day before had come to terms with it.
They were all engaging themselves with things that they normally did in the morning like bathing and grooming themselves.
The only one who looked gloomier was Kenneth.
He was in his own room, still lying down on his bed, thinking about how he got rejected by the woman of his dreams. His eyes still looked moist and swollen up, probably from crying for the whole night. He looked paler than usual, he almost looked like he didn't have a single drop of energy left in him.
As usual, Damien came knocking on Kenneth's door for his usual 'How to be a vampire' lesson.
"Kenneth! Are you awake?" Damien asked from outside the door.
Kenneth was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn't even hear Damien's voice, even when Damien called him a few more times again.
If it was any other time, Damien would have probably left for his own room thinking that Kenneth was still asleep or busy doing something. However, since he had seen how depressed Kenneth was after his last meeting with Ariel, Damien's heart didn't allow him to go back without checking up on the sad boy.
"What if he has done something to himself?" Damien couldn't help but think negatively.
He had once been in Kenneth's shoes. He knew how hard it was to even think of being apart from Ariel. He had wanted to vanish into thin air after that incident in Mihir. So, he could relate to Kenneth's feelings.
"Kenneth, I am letting myself in," Damien warned Kenneth before teleporting inside the room.
Kenneth got startled and jumped a little when a tall figure suddenly hovered above his face out of nowhere.
"Damien! What the hell!" Kenneth covered his face with both of his palms and shouted in a complaining tone.
Damien heaved a deep sigh in relief upon seeing Kenneth. Then he immediately apologized for the intrusion, "You didn't answer me when I called you so many times. So, I… got a little worried."
Kenneth grumbled and then turned his back on Damien. He was trying to hide his pathetic condition from Damien. "I'm sorry. I didn't hear you," he softly mumbled.
"It's okay. I can come back after a while." Now that Damien knew for sure that Kenneth was alive and well, he didn't want to linger around when Kenneth wasn't even looking at him.
However, before he could even take a few steps toward the door, he heard Kenneth mumbling.
"Are you here for the blood?"
Damien stopped and then answered Kenneth after turning around. "Yes. That too but–" He stopped before finishing his sentence because that was when he noticed that Kenneth looked unusually pale.
"Whoa!" Damien furrowed his brows worriedly and then asked, "Why do you look like you bathed in snow or something? Are you okay?"
Kenneth finally decided to turn to face Damien. He looked Damien in the eyes and nodded while pressing his lips together.
"Then why don't you look that good?" Damien asked again and held out his hand to reach for Kenneth's forehead. Stay connected via My Virtual Library Empire
Before Kenneth could protest that he was fine, Damien pressed his palm over Kenneth's forehead in order to examine Kenneth's temperature.
Damien was surprised to find out that Kenneth's temperature was very much normal.
"I told you I am fine," Kenneth said while getting up from the bed.
However, Damien wasn't still convinced. He still thought that something was definitely very wrong with Kenneth, apart from the fact that he had his heart and his hope shattered completely just a day before.
Damien pinched the back of Kenneth's hand and frowned when it didn't look red. It was still pale.
Kenneth rubbed his hand where Damien had pinched him and asked as he walked toward the place where he had kept his precious box, "Why would you even do that?" He sneered and jokingly said, "Don't tell me you are here to pick a fight with me."
"Why would I pick a fight with you?" Damien knitted his brows together and stared at the back of Kenneth's neck where his paleness was revealed. He sighed and then said in a rather low voice, "It's just that, you look… unalive."
Kenneth chuckled, much to Damien's delight. "Unalive? Is that even a word?"
"It is. And at the moment, you are it." Damien went and stood beside Kenneth. Then he watched Kenneth carefully take out the vials of blood.
Kenneth handed over a vial to Damien and took one for himself. He raised the vial as if it was a glass of wine and then said, "I will be better once I drink this. Sometimes, my vampire side starts to dominate when I uh… When I get too stressed."
"Oh!" Damien pursed his lips and looked down at the vial in his hand.
Kenneth smiled after seeing the look of concern mixed with discomfort on Damien's face, and he said, "You don't need to feel bad for me. Just watch."
After he gulped down the whole content of the vial, the complexion of his body slowly started to change back to normal.
"It really worked!" Damien said in a surprised tone. He then asked while subconsciously shaking the vial, "How are you doing?"
Kenneth narrowed his eyes and mumbled while chuckling, "I feel like I lost the whole purpose of my life. And I don't want to move a muscle, if possible for the whole month, or a whole year."
Damien took a deep breath. He felt really guilty and even a little pity towards Kenneth. "I'm really sorry," he apologized.
Kenneth smiled and patted Damien's shoulder. "You don't have to apologize to me. The way I am feeling at the moment is my own problem. I will get over it in my own time. It's not your fault…" He chuckled and jokingly said, "Well, partially it is. But I am not blaming you."
