Chapter 1270: Discussing peace (1)

Once again, we returned to the same conference room.

Though this time, there was a clear divide between the two sides of the conference room.

One side was rather empty and the other side was rather packed.

That was because no one wanted to sit with the demon queen, Elizabeth.

Even if it meant that they would have to squeeze in, they wanted to create as much space between them and her. That just went to show how little this demon queen was trusted by the humans and the representatives from the other races.

It also went to show what kind of reputation that the demons had.

Once again, I was at the head of the table.

It seemed like they were once again leaving this position to me, though it also seemed like the human representatives were more willing to let me take the position this time.

It was as if they wanted to use me as their shield against this demon queen.

The room was silent after we all entered and sat down, both sides seemed like they were trying to see through one another.

But in the end, I took the initiative to break the silence by saying, "I'm sure that you're already aware of the reason we called you here. Is there anything that you have to say about this?"

When I spoke, her piercing red eyes suddenly turned to look right at me.

These were eyes that seemed like pools of red that one could fall into, but I was different.

I had met gods, so it wasn't that easy to make me dazed.

There seemed to be a trace of surprise that appeared in her eyes when she saw that I wasn't affected at all by the way that she looked at me, but then there was also a trace of approval as she looked at me.

Then she said, "I have, but naturally there are things that I have to ask for the sake of my fellow demons. I'm sure that you have already expected this, right?"

I slowly gave a nod in response before waiting for her to give her demands.

This was just how it was in negotiating, so I wasn't going to show anything until she showed her cards.

Seeing that I wasn't going to say anything, Elizabeth didn't say anything at first either.

But then she finally gave in and said, "The first thing is naturally a promise that none of our fellow demons will be harmed if we surrender. We will also want to see if we can bring home some of the prisoners of war that you are currently holding."

Just the first request that she gave already made me shake my head.

"Impossible."

As soon as she heard this, Elizabeth immediately knitted her brows. Though it didn't seem like she was about to lose her temper with the way that she looked at me.

After a moment of silence, she asked one simple word, "Why?"

The way that she asked this was as if she was genuinely curious why I had rejected her request right away.

"You and I both know that even if they didn't participate, there are still many demons that were involved in the war indirectly. At the same time, they would still be involved in restarting the war if they were left alone, so they must be dealt with."

Elizabeth looked like there was something that she wanted to say, but after opening and closing her mouth a few times, she finally gave a slow nod as if she was acknowledging what I said.

Even if she wanted to refute it, it was impossible for her to refute it since she knew what kind of personality the demons had.

Seeing that she agreed, I also added, "As for the prisoners of war, we can release some of them, but not all of them. Those that still have the heart to attack the humans will naturally need to be locked up and executed for their crimes. The only ones that we can actually release are the ones that were forced to go along with this."

Once again, Elizabeth gave a slow nod of agreement.

But this time, it seemed that she had something to add, "How will you determine this?"

"That will depend on your help." I answered without any hesitation.

After a moment of silence, she gave another slow nod of agreement.

This wasn't something that could be discussed that easily, it would require further discussion to properly figure this out.

This talk today was just to discuss the general terms of the agreement, any further talk would have to wait.

"The second request that I have is that you will leave our land alone. Instead of taking our land directly, we will offer you compensation in the form of goods and services. At the same time, I hope that we will be able to open trade routes with humans for the prosperity of both races."

Then after a momentary pause, she looked at the representatives of the other race to say, "I would offer the same to all of you, but it seems that you have a deeper grudge towards our demon race and won't forget it that easily. So the only thing that I can offer you is compensation like with the human race."

Everyone deeply knitted their brows when they heard this.

Only this time, it didn't seem like they were against this proposal.

That was because they knew that this deal was actually beneficial to them.

Before this, the human representatives wanted to take the land of the demons for themselves because they wanted the resources that were on this land. But they also knew that it would have been hard for them to take these resources.

The land that the demons lived on was more suited for the demons, which meant that it would

be hard for humans to make the most out of it.

The reason they wanted to take it before was because they thought that they would be

eliminating the demons.

But if the demons were there to provide them the resources...

That was the better solution.
