Chapter 5: Who's Crazier?...
Elric woke up to the harsh brightness of the morning sun burning through his window. His head throbbed like he had been hit with a hammer, and his mouth tasted dry and sour.
He sat up slowly, his shirt sticking to his skin with sweat. Around the room, empty bottles were scattered like fallen soldiers. There were red plastic cups tipped over on the floor, confetti stuck to his blankets, and the smell of stale alcohol hung heavy in the air.
His phone lay next to him with the Bible app still glowing. It read, "Your choices shape your soul."
Elric groaned and ran his hand through his messy hair. He shut his eyes, hoping to erase the words, but they burned into his mind.
Flashes of last night hit him like sharp slaps. He saw Mabel's sly smirk as she slipped a shot into his hand, Rosemund laughing wildly while dancing on the table, Amber dragging him onto the dance floor, Freyja snapping pictures for her stories, and Lyra cheering as he jumped dangerously from one rooftop ledge to another.
He remembered the boys too. Verde yelling, "Go higher, Elric!" as if cheering on a performer. Josiah recording every crazy moment on his phone, his laughter echoing like a siren. Aurelious starting chants and encouraging even wilder stunts. Bertinus joking around, tossing drinks into the air like confetti. Derrick challenging guys to fights and pulling Elric into dangerous games. Delvin slipping away into the shadows and then appearing again out of nowhere with more bottles and trouble.
They were a storm together. And Elric had been right at the center, the king of chaos for the night.
He opened the Sin Slayer System screen in his mind. His stomach twisted.
Sin Points:[ 12,000]
Virtue Points: [-29]
Temptations Record: [Critical ]
The numbers felt like they were carved into his skin. He swallowed hard.
His phone buzzed. A message from Verde popped up.
"Bro! You were insane last night! We're going even harder next Friday. You better not flake on us."
Then another from Josiah: "Man, the rooftop jumps? Legendary! We gotta do it again. New dares coming up!"
One from Mabel: "You were on fire last night, king. We need to finish what we started next time."
More messages followed. Amber sent a photo of him mid-jump with a fire emoji. Rosemund sent a video of them dancing, captioned "My favorite wild boy." Freyja posted a poll asking, "Who's crazier? Elric or Derrick?" Lyra just sent a string of laughing emojis and hearts.
Elric stared at all of it. His thumb hovered over the screen. He thought about typing "I'm done" or "I can't do this anymore." But the words never came out.
At school, he felt like a ghost. He moved quickly, head down, trying to stay out of sight. But they found him. They always did.
Verde grabbed him first, throwing an arm around his neck. "There he is! The legend himself. You're not disappearing on us, right?"
Josiah slapped him on the back so hard it nearly knocked him forward. "Dude, you're the heart of the party! Don't even think of bailing."
Aurelious clapped his hands together and grinned. "Next time, we go even bigger. Maybe rooftops and abandoned train tracks."
Bertinus held up a fake trophy he made out of a plastic cup. "To the king of the rooftops!"
Derrick flexed his arms and laughed. "If you're backing out, you fight me first!"
Delvin simply smirked from the edge of the group, his eyes gleaming with mischief, always quiet but always watching.
Then the girls joined in. Mabel leaned against Elric, her perfume sweet and dizzying. "Don't act shy now. You're ours, remember?"
Amber flipped her hair, winking. "We need you for the next dance video, superstar."
Rosemund draped her arm around his waist. "You're the life of our nights, Elric."
Freyja snapped a quick picture of the group, "Smile for my feed, wild king!"
Lyra squeezed his hand briefly and whispered, "Don't vanish on us. You make it all electric."
Elric forced a laugh, trying to look alive, but inside he felt like he was sinking into quicksand.
During lunch, they crowded around a table, loud and unstoppable. Verde shouted new dare ideas. Josiah talked about new places to sneak into. Aurelious suggested a game involving the girls, blindfolds, and risky dares. Bertinus started tossing food at another table. Derrick bet money on who could chug the fastest. Delvin just watched and laughed softly.
The girls giggled and cheered, already planning outfits and playlists.
Elric barely touched his food. He just stared at it, his appetite gone. The Sin Slayer System flashed over and over in his mind. The Sin Points ticked up with every dirty joke he laughed at, every rude comment he agreed with, every empty promise he made to join them again.
After school, he slipped away as quickly as he could. He walked home slowly, feeling each step as if he was dragging a heavy chain behind him.
When he finally got to his room, he locked the door, collapsed to the floor, and pulled his knees to his chest.
His phone lit up again. The Bible app glowed softly.
"It is not too late to rise."
Elric shook as he read it, tears falling from his eyes. He whispered to himself, "I don't want this anymore. I don't want to be their king."
But even as he said it, he could already hear the next invitation in his mind. He knew the girls would pull him back with their wild smiles. He knew the boys would drag him along with their roaring cheers.
In that quiet moment on his floor, he felt more alone than ever. But deep down, a tiny ember of hope glowed weakly. He didn't know if he could change. He didn't know if he would ever find the strength to say no.
But he knew one thing for certain:
If he stayed on this path, he would lose himself forever.
And for the first time, as the moon climbed into the night sky and the room fell silent, Elric closed his eyes and prayed a single, shaky prayer.
"Help me."🙏🏻
