Chapter 6: Who will it be ?..
Elric didn't sleep well that night. He kept tossing and turning, every second feeling like his mind was sprinting through a maze with no exit. Even when he managed to close his eyes, numbers kept flashing behind his eyelids -his Sin Points climbing higher and higher, while his Virtue Points plunged lower.
By morning, he felt like he had already lived a lifetime in his head.
When he finally got up, he dragged himself to the mirror. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair wild and sticking up in every direction. The boy staring back at him looked broken, nothing like the fearless party king his friends cheered for.He splashed cold water on his face again and again, hoping it would wash away the guilt too. But it didn't.
At school, nothing had changed for the others. Verde and Josiah were busy arguing over who had the craziest stunt at the party. Bertinus bragged about sneaking into the teachers' lounge to steal snacks. Derrick was shadowboxing in the hallway, hyping himself up for no reason. Delvin was already planning his next vanishing act from math class.
The girls were there too. Rosemund, bold and sharp-eyed, looking like she owned every step she took. Mabel, with her teasing smiles that could melt any boy's heart. Freyja, always laughing so loud she felt like a storm. Lyra, queen of secrets and whispers. Amber, gliding through the halls as if she was walking a catwalk.
When Elric passed, they lit up, shouting his name. Mabel blew him a kiss and winked. Rosemund shouted, "Hey legend! Recovering from last night?" Freyja leaned back against the wall, laughing so hard she almost dropped her phone.
Elric forced a crooked smile. Inside, he felt like he was crumbling.
During class, he couldn't focus. The Sin Slayer System screen floated in his mind, numbers burning into him like a brand.
Sin Points: [ 12,030 ]
Virtue Points: [-40 ]
Temptations Record: [ Overloaded ]
Every sarcastic comment, every curse under his breath, every mean joke or mocking laugh made his Sin Points shoot up even more. Every time he gave in, he felt his soul sink deeper.
At lunch, he sat in the corner of the table. The others talked and laughed about the next party. Verde was bragging about getting stronger drinks. Josiah teased Lyra about kissing three boys at once. Mabel slid closer to Elric, her perfume mixing with the greasy smell of cafeteria food."Don't disappear again," she purred, her voice soft but dangerous. "We need you at the next party. You make it worth going."
Elric felt sick. His tray of food sat untouched. He kept staring down, as if the answers he needed were hidden in the rice.
After school, he walked home alone. Every step felt like dragging a heavy chain. His mind replayed the boy he used to be ( the one who stayed late after class to help teachers, who came home to help his mom cook, who felt proud of his good grades.)
He remembered his mother's proud smile when he once held up a test marked "Excellent." That memory felt like it belonged to another life.
When he got home, he dropped his bag, kicked off his shoes, and collapsed on the floor. He pulled his knees to his chest, his breath shaking. His phone lit up. The Bible app glowed, calm but firm.A new message appeared on the screen:
"It is still possible to rise again."
Elric stared at it, tears finally spilling down his cheeks. His shoulders shook, and he buried his face in his arms.
He wanted to scream. He wanted to rip the app off his phone, to run away from the judgment and numbers and guilt. But deep down, a small voice whispered to him, the part of him that still remembered his mother's hugs and the pride of doing good.
He whispered into the silent room, his voice rough and small.
"I don't want to be like this. I want to change. But… I don't know if I can."
Outside, the streetlights blinked one by one, as if the world kept moving forward without him.Inside, Elric felt like he was standing at the edge of a cliff, afraid to fall but even more afraid to climb back up.
And somewhere deep inside, the tiniest flicker of hope still refused to die, no matter how hard the darkness tried to bury it.
.....
Just as Elric buried his face into his arms, his phone buzzed again. This time, a new message appeared on the Bible app.
"Someone will reach out soon. Be ready."
Elric lifted his head slowly, his tears still fresh. His breath caught in his throat.
A strange warmth spread through his chest, as if a gentle hand had touched his heart.
For the first time in a long while, he felt a tiny spark inside him ;fragile, but real.
He didn't know who it would be. He didn't know when.
But for a moment, he let himself believe…
Maybe he wouldn't have to fight alone after all.....
Who will it be ?"🤔
