Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Farewell, My Love
In Wang Chunyu's escape plan, he had prepared three different routes.
He had invested too much time and effort into this rescue mission.
Forcing himself to push aside distracting thoughts, he focused solely on running.
The security robots of the CanShang Company were incredibly fast, and the gap between them was visibly narrowing.
Fortunately, the slowly closing passageway doors gave them a chance to widen the distance again.
Wang Chunyu and Han Zhen slid beneath one such door just in time, leaving the pursuing robots stuck on the other side.
"Why aren't we fighting back?" Han Zhen asked, confused, as he watched the door shut behind them.
He was now at the sixth tier, and the young man named Wang Chunyu seemed to have at least third-tier strength.
With their combined abilities, taking down those alloy robots wouldn't be difficult.
But Wang Chunyu didn't even consider fighting back. He didn't look back, didn't hesitate.
This puzzled Han Zhen greatly.
"It's because of the rules set by the Skynet AI," Wang Chunyu explained. "As long as we don't reveal our awakened abilities to resist the security group, the situation will remain at level three. At this level, CanShang Company's resources are limited."
"But the moment we expose our abilities or destroy one of those robots, the Skynet AI will reassess and escalate the situation."
"And if that happens, we'll be swarmed by CanShang Company's super soldiers and armored warships. There'll be no way to escape." Wang Chunyu continued, his tone grim.
Han Zhen hadn't expected CanShang Company to entrust its highest authority to an AI like Skynet.
He had assumed the Shang family was fully in control, but reality proved otherwise.
As if sensing Han Zhen's thoughts, Wang Chunyu added, "The Shang family believes humans are often too emotional and irrational, whereas Skynet represents absolute logic. Its judgments are almost never wrong—accurate 99.99% of the time."
"And even if someone manages to exploit loopholes in its logic, the inspection teams will quickly step in to report and rectify them. This dual system, where Skynet leads and human inspectors support, is what the Shang family found to be most effective after years of refinement."
As they spoke, the alarm sirens around them suddenly grew louder and sharper.
Hearing the sound, Wang Chunyu's expression turned anxious,"Damn it! Why is the inspection team responding so quickly this time? How did they approve it so fast after the manual report? This is bad."
———
Outside the Mechanical Research Institute, in the Sky
Sleek, silver hovercrafts streaked through the skies, carrying CanShang Company's fully armed necro-warriors, ready for deployment.
Unlike the security robots made of advanced alloys, these necro-warriors were CanShang Company's most elite combat units, created at great expense.
Their bodies had been modified with specialized weapons and materials, granting them superhuman strength and abilities.
Although their modifications resembled those of Changsheng company's mutants, the two methods diverged significantly, each following a distinct path.
Without waiting for orders, the necro-warriors broke through windows and quickly infiltrated the interior of the mechanical research institute.
"Hold your breath for two more minutes," Han Zhen's low voice instructed.
The two of them were now hidden under a special camouflage cloth.
Having doubled back into the mechanical research institute, they found themselves surrounded by alloy robots and necro-warriors.
Breaking out of the encirclement seemed exponentially more difficult.
The camouflage cloth, a tool from the eighth battle zone, was simple but effective.
It allowed them to hide by concealing their bodies, scent, and heat signature, making it ideal against enemies heavily reliant on advanced technology.
However, the cloth had a major drawback: it required them to remain stationary once deployed. Any movement would compromise the disguise.
Fortunately, though they couldn't see outside, Wang Chunyu used his S-tier talent, Sense Sharing, to view the situation through Shang Xiaoyun's perspective.
Nearby, a squad of ten necro-warriors was approaching. Their scans showed nothing but empty space.
"Sector F clear. No anomalies detected," one necro-warrior reported to the command center.
Suddenly, one of them looked up sharply, his sensors detecting something.
"What is it?"
"The visual scanner picked up someone observing us. Coordinates: X-423, Y-611, Z-779."
"All units, converge on the coordinates immediately."
Following the order, the necro-warriors left the area and headed toward the new location.
"It's Xiaoyun. She's been discovered." Wang Chunyu exclaimed, seeing through her eyes that all the necro-warriors and alloy robots were converging on her location.
"No, I have to save her." Wang Chunyu declared, pulling off the camouflage cloth and preparing to charge toward her.
Han Zhen didn't stop him.
But the next moment, Wang Chunyu froze in place, his expression bitter.
"Does it have to be this way?" he murmured, staring into the air as if speaking to someone unseen.
Han Zhen realized he was communicating with Shang Xiaoyun through their shared sense.
"Chunyu, don't come. If you do, I'll detonate it immediately,"Shang Xiaoyun said through the connection.
Through the Sense Sharing, she lifted a small capsule with her mechanical appendages.
A capsule bomb.
It turned out Shang Xiaoyun had secretly kept the bomb she had removed from Han Zhen earlier, without telling anyone.
"Xiaoyun!" Wang Chunyu shouted, halting his steps.
"I'm sorry, Chunyu," Shang Xiaoyun said, her voice breaking.
"I'm sorry for being a member of the Shang family. I'm sorry for not being able to stay by your side all these years and for the burdens and pain I've caused you. I'm sorry you wasted so much of your time and youth on me."
"Chunyu, I've wanted to end it all for so long. I'm so tired of living. When I face the future, I'm too afraid."
"So go. Go with your idol and leave this place. Help him complete his mission. Didn't you always dream of being a hero? Now's your chance."
"To me, Chunyu, you've always been my hero."
"Good luck, Chunyu."
Wang Chunyu listened to her words, as though hearing her final farewell.
Though they were only 500 meters apart, it felt like an unbridgeable chasm of life and death.
He fell to his knees, clutching his head in anguish.
Meanwhile, the security robots and necro-warriors arrived at Shang Xiaoyun's location and pushed open the door.
Inside, they heard a cold, mechanical voice:
"Goodbye, my love." [T/N: 🤧]
