Chapter 11: Escape
"Damn it..."
I've searched the entire school and found no trace of him.
So, I had no choice but to return to the same place.
I still remember grabbing Harry's hand, only to find no one there afterward.
It's strange, like Harry vanished in an instant.
Looking inside the tool shed, I touched the black liquid and brought it up to examine.
...This stuff isn't sticky; it's like water.
Could it have some kind of ability? Like sucking enemies into endless darkness or something?
It's just a hypothesis, so I'm not too sure.
Then, I walked to the window, staring into the deep darkness.
"..."
If this is Nyarlathotep's doing, I can be certain of one thing.
He won't harm me. I have that feeling.
"...Let's take a chance!"
I climbed through the window, swallowed hard, and jumped down.
As soon as I jumped, I fell into the deep darkness, the light gradually fading, and I started losing consciousness.
...
I opened my eyes, and it was still the familiar school.
"...I get it now."
There are two possibilities: this place is an inescapable loop, or... it's an illusion.
Worse, it could be both at the same time.
"If that's the case..."
I looked at my finger, grabbed it, and snapped it!
*Crack!*
The pain shot through my brain, sweat dripped as I endured it.
"This better be worth it!"
Suddenly, my vision shifted, and I felt something appear.
I rushed to the storage room and flung the door open.
"...I knew it!"
Harry, who had disappeared, was now sitting in a corner, utterly terrified.
He was also trapped in an illusion.
I approached, checked if Harry was injured, and then slapped his face hard.
He blinked for a moment, then looked at me.
"Peter? Is that you?"
"Too many questions! Let's go!"
"P-PETER!!" Harry hugged Peter, crying in relief.
Is he still under the illusion?
"Get off me, Harry. I'm not gay."
"Oh, uh, neither am I."
Both of us got out of the storage room.
"This is?! I thought I was in a game?!"
"It's an illusion. To break it, you need to feel intense pain," Peter said, showing Harry his broken finger, making him turn pale.
"Y-You really broke it?!"
"I had no choice. It's the most effective way," Peter said, looking around.
It seemed breaking his finger allowed him to see more clearly.
This place... the black liquid was everywhere.
Great, just wanted to make a horror game, and now I'm stuck in this mess. Should've never trusted an Outer God.
"What do we do now?" Harry looked at me.
"...Ugh, Harry, look away."
"Huh? What do you mean—"
Crack!
"!!"
Harry watched as I broke another finger.
"A-ARE YOU INSANE?! WHY DID YOU BREAK ANOTHER ONE?!"
"It's just a finger. I need to make the most of it," I said, sweating.
This time, the illusion faded further, and I could see more clearly.
There were thousands of eyes staring at me, sharp teeth dripping with black liquid.
"W-What do you see?"
"...The worst."
Then I saw its teeth move, as if it was trying to say something.
"༼;´༎ຶ ༎( ⚈̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥́̀)ਊ☉ᕗヾ˙❥ノ✪㉨"
Its eyes then oozed black liquid, as if it were crying.
"D...on...t... b...re...ak... any...more..."
I was sweating, grabbing my third finger.

The thing sprouted thousands of hands, grabbing hold of me.
Its tears flowed endlessly, staring at me deeply.
"Ughh! Let go of me!"
But the thing wouldn't budge; it clung to me and started pulling me toward it.
"PETER!!" Harry rushed forward, trying to pull me away.
"Ughhh!!"
I looked at it, and it looked back at me.
"...Let us out of here, or I'll break my third finger."
The thing paused, staring at me more closely.
"What? Not doing it?"
Its toothy maw opened.
"Pr...omi..se?"
"I promise."
"A..re... you... su...re?"
"If you ask more then I'll break every finger I have."
"..."
Its hands released me, and suddenly, both Harry's and my consciousness faded.
We both fell into a deep sleep instantly.
***
I opened my eyes, and it was still the familiar school.
"Ughh... Did we escape?" Harry clutched his head, looking at me.
I looked at my hand, and it was still intact.
Then we glanced at the body and looked out the window.
"...We're out."
I sat down, sighing in exhaustion.
"Peter..."
"Huh?"
"From the start until now... not even a minute has passed." Harry showed me the time on his phone.
"...Great. Call the police, Harry."
Harry immediately made the call. I leaned against the wall, piecing together everything I'd experienced.
[PETER!!]
'?!'
I flinched, realizing it was that Outer God.
[ARE YOU OKAY?! YOU SUDDENLY PASSED OUT, AND I LOST MY CONNECTION WITH YOU! YOU HAD ME SO WORRIED!!]
"...?"
What? So it wasn't you?
'...When did I pass out?'
[Right when you opened the door to the storage room! Then both of you collapsed, and I lost my connection with you completely!!]
'Is that so?... Then it must be some crazy entity as powerful as you, obsessed with me, trapping me in that illusion. Just great...'
[Huh... Your mind is still intact, though your spirit is a bit... slightly cracked, but it's fine.
Thank goodness... I thought I'd lost you!]
'You're not my lover.'
[Blah blah blah.]
'Annoying.'
After that, the police and a bunch of people arrived.
The students were worried, and the police immediately started examining the body.
"...Strange. How did he die?"
"What's wrong, officer?" a teacher approached.
"The body has no injuries at all, completely normal, no signs of anything."
[Was it a killing by breaking the mind?]
'Can you guess who did it?'
[Nope! TEEHEE!]
...You're the most useless Outer God ever.
After the incident, the students were allowed to go home early.
Harry, though, was already having nightmares, constantly looking around cautiously.
Looks like the game's release will have to be delayed...
I went home, and Uncle Ben and Aunt May rushed over, bombarding me with questions.
Oh, so this incident made it to the TV already? The school must be trying to handle this to avoid backlash.
Back in my room, I flopped onto my bed.
My brain is exhausted... Dealing with all this is so tiring...
It's definitely that damn Outer God's fault!
[WTF?! WHY ME??]
It's not even dark yet, but I just want to sleep...
