Spider-Man: Horror games dev

Chapter 14: Livestream

Ugh... This is the first time i write the livestream thing, hope it not messy

*****

On Twatch:

JackieTroll: Play a different game already.

BingBong: Yeah, switch games, aren't you tired of playing LoL all the time?

"What? You guys are bored already? But I'm playing Vayne Top!

This is… I don't know, let's just call him Bob.

He's a streamer with over 100 followers and an average viewership of about 30.

Honestly, getting that many views while playing LoL is pretty surprising, especially since it's LoL.

But LoL is still LoL—playing it endlessly just twists their minds into something weird.

That's why he picked Vayne Top; it's practically a war crime.

"But I'm in the middle of a match, guys, wait a bit and we'll play something new!"

*BingBong has left

"FINE! I'M QUITTING THE GAME RIGHT NOW!"

JackieTroll: See? Isn't that better?

"Ugh…" He scratched his bald head and started looking for a game.

In this universe, there's no Steam, so big gaming companies each have their own websites where players can pay and download games.

Of course, it's super clunky and makes the gaming scene severely lack creativity.

That's why technology here is super advanced, but the games are just LoL, Dota, fighting games, CSGO, and blah blah—those are the big ones.

But playing the same stuff gets boring.

Indie games are ridiculously rare, simply because without Steam, developers don't know where to publish their games.

Even if they manage to get their game on a big company's website, it just sits in a corner, ignored.

Yup, games are slowly dying out due to a lack of variety.

"There's nothing new, just the same old multiplayer games… Web games are a bit more plentiful, but their designs are so boring there's nothing to say…"

Gukoisstrong: So what, we're supposed to keep watching you stream LoL? I'm so done with that game. The studios are too busy making music and movies, and they don't bother fixing or balancing the game, so some champs are just stupidly OP.

"If you don't like it, fine, let's do a reaction stream today."

TungtungSahur: Sounds good, as long as the videos are interesting enough.

So he went on YouTube to see what he could find.

And what caught his eye was a super clickbaity video:

"A mysterious game on the Deep Web… Killed someone?"

"Is this legit, Chat?"

MasterYy: Looks fake as hell.

Ogabunga: It's the 21st century, and people are still making videos like this? Nostalgic.

Hunhahiho: Just watch it.

"If you say so."

Click!

As soon as he clicked the video, a flood of ads popped up.

And they were unskippable!

"…YouTube's gone downhill lately."

And right when the ads ended, another unskippable ad popped up, even longer!

"…"

Life's already dull, and now there are these demonic YouTube overlords making it worse!

After a while, the ads finally stopped—if there were any more, he probably would've quit watching altogether!

In the video, there was footage of a game.

"Recently, a game has suddenly popped up on social media and caused a stir," the voice in the video said.

"The graphics aren't impressive, the gameplay is simple, but it became popular in a way no one expected."

"No one knows who made this game or when it was released, but based on the graphics, it's likely from the early 2000s."

"Blah blah bleh bleh."

Bob watched a bunch of gameplay footage.

"…Let's download this game, Chat. I wanna see what's so special about it."

JackieTroll: Where do you download it?

"The video said it randomly appeared on 4chan, so why not check there?"

Whoa… 4chan, huh? That explains why it got famous.

He went to the site and searched for the game, but he couldn't find it.

"Huh? No game!"

Gedigeda: It's a scam… Typical bait video, totally unreliable.

"Hmm… Can't expect much, I guess."

Right after that, he scrolled down and saw a post from a 4chan user.

Anonymous6789: Looks like the person who posted the download link took it down for some reason—probably got assassinated or something, lol. Lucky for you, I downloaded it beforehand, so I can share it with everyone.

And below the comment was a download link.

"Lucky!" Bob grinned and downloaded the game.

Hopefully, there's no virus—after all, this is 4chan.

And, surprise, surprise! The game downloaded insanely fast, in less than a minute.

"It's that small?"

Right after, he jumped into the game with a relaxed vibe, along with his viewers.

A horror game? Hopefully, it's scary enough to spook him.

"Forgot to turn on the home security… Should I pick 'No'? Probably fine, right?"

"FUCK FUCK FUCK, I THOUGHT THE KNIFE DIDN'T NEED TO BE HIDDEN?!"

"STOP THAT SOUND! PLEASE, GOD!!"

"WAIT, WTF?! IS THAT A CORPSE?! OH FUCK, THAT GUY SPOTTED ME!! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!"

"Huh? Isn't that Morrigan from Darkstalkers? The Morrigan Fumo version looks so cute!"

...

"GAHHHHHHHH!!!!"

Bob slumped onto his desk. The game was so short it was almost laughable, but it left him completely rattled.

For the viewers, they got a mix of comedy and a sense that the game was really well-made.

Dudeishard: This game is legit! So much potential! Shame it's got such a bad rep that everyone's scared of it.

Badtothebone: The jumpscares were solid, not overdone. I can feel the passion from the creator. It's a pity someone slapped all sorts of labels on it. Really sucks for the dev.

Bob sat up and checked his viewer count—it had skyrocketed!

The viewership was at around 230 people! The highest he'd ever had!

"Man… Sacrificing my tears for live viewers, totally worth it…"

Then he looked at the game and thought for a moment.

"What kind of jerk labeled this a 'Deep Web game'? Burying a great game under all that infamy? Sure, it might get more attention, but no one's actually gonna play it!"

"I'm gonna share this on Twitter! You viewers should do it too! It's such a shame for the person who poured their heart into making this game, only for no one to take it seriously!"

The viewers agreed wholeheartedly. Indie games are rare, but good indie games are even rarer! They couldn't let this gem go to waste—it had to shine!

***

[I can feel the fear! And it's growing stronger!]

"Oh, really? I thought I took down the game's download link?"

[No idea, but this fear is enough to satisfy me again!]

Hearing that, I took another bite of my hotdog while looking down at the city.

Yup, he's on the rooftop of a skyscraper, taking in the view.

Suddenly, his phone rang. He checked it and saw Harry calling.

"Oh… hello? What's up?"

"Go on YouTube, Peter! Our game's been vindicated out of nowhere!"

"…Nani?"
