Chapter 13: Release!
"I've made up my mind, I'm posting the game on 4chan."
The spoon clattered to the floor as Harry, trembling, stared at Peter, who looked deadly serious.
"…Are you insane?"
The two were in Harry's room, debating for hours about where to post.
Harry was eating yogurt when Peter dropped this bombshell.
"I mean… huh? 4chan? For real?"
That's the place filled with people who are either practically soulless, ready to do anything for entertainment, or so good they're like angels descended to Earth.
Yes, it's the website where free speech is at its absolute maximum.
But, bruh… you're really posting on that site??
"…Why not post somewhere else, like Twitter or Reddit?"
"Those places are just as bad, though Twitter's got some cool artists."
"…What about Facebook?"
"Censorship."
"…Other websites?"
"Not popular enough."
"…It has to be 4chan?"
"It has to be 4chan."
"…Even though it's ten times worse than other social media?"
"You're talking too much! It's my decision, let me do what I want!"
Harry grimaced and scratched his head.
"If you say so…"
And so, the two posted the game on 4chan with a few lines of text.
Why did Peter choose to post the game here?
Because this site… it's full of bad people.
There's bound to be someone who'll steal the game's source code and slip a virus into it.
That would make an already creepy game infamous and terrifying…
If they're lucky, it might even become a Creepypasta.
Don't underestimate 4chan users. If they want to do something, they'll do it.
Like that time they tracked down a terrorist's address just because… they were bored.
(It's kind of hilarious—they saw a photo of a terrorist training camp and decided to find the address out of boredom. And they actually did it, something even the military couldn't pull off.)
So, if this game gets famous because of a virus, 4chan will take it to new heights.
Of course, there's a price to pay.
The creator—me—will take a hit to my reputation.
Well, as long as the game gets famous, I don't care much about my reputation. After all, my goal is just to satisfy that annoying Outer God.
[Who're you calling annoying?! You're always bullying me! I'm mad!!!]
"Whatever."
Here's hoping the game gets some attention…
***
Three days have passed…
And I haven't seen a single video about the game.
"Hmm…"
"Give it up, Peter. Posting on there is too risky. It's not always going to work out."
Sure, I had hoped the game would at least catch someone's attention.
Actually, it kind of did—there were a few comments about my game on 4chan.
Anonymous1234: Pretty creepy game, I can feel the joy the creator put into it.
Anonymous0000: Tried it, and it's pretty creative. The dev doesn't overdo jumpscares but still makes it scary. The downside is once you know the jumpscares, it's not scary anymore.
Anonymous6969: When's the sex update coming? I wanna fuck the corpse in situation 3!
Anonymous4321: Graphics are bad, but that's kinda a plus. The story's a bit confusing, though—guess my brain's got too much sperm clogging it.
"…" I stared at the comments, speechless.
[Peter…]
"Calm down—"
[No!! I'm only getting a tiny bit of fear! It's not enough! NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!]
'It's not like you gonna die, relax.'
[I can't take it anymore… I want chaos in the human world, and I'm going to make it happen now!]
Wait what?! This guy's about to do something right now?!
Peter broke into a sweat, about to sweet-talk the Outer God when…
[…Huh? Wait?! This fear! This chaos!]
"??" I listened, confused, as the Outer God's voice turned gleeful.
Did it already do something?!
"P-Peter!"
"What?! Don't tell me society's already tearing itself apart?!"
"Why are you thinking something that terrible?! Look at this!"
Confused, I walked over to the screen.
"A haunted game… on the deep web?"
We looked at each other, then back at the screen.
It was posted by a famous social media account, and the game they were talking about…
"Go to Bed…"
"Our game… it's famous!"
[I CAN FEEL HIGH-QUALITY FEAR! WOOOHOOO!!!]
Harry and I grinned happily and started celebrating right there.
Yes… finally…
Good thing the game got famous just in time, or this world might've been toast.
But seriously? It made it to the deep web? Who the heck put the game up there?
"Since we posted anonymously, no one will know it's us…" Harry thought about it and got a bit sad.
"Oh, my friend! This is our first game, and it's just a short one! Our hard work might… get stolen, but! This game will be the foundation to give us confidence for the future when we make a new horror game!"
"You're talking like you don't even care about our first game."
'Well, I made the game to keep the Outer God from going crazy'
[WAHHH! THIS FEAR!! AHAHAHA!]
'Are you happy now?'
[Happy… Though it's not as good as me causing chaos myself, it's just enough to satisfy me. I even sensed someone dying of a heart attack~]
'…What?'
Suddenly, Harry broke into a sweat and looked at Peter.
"…What's that?"
"…Someone died of a heart attack… while playing our game…"
"…"
This is not good. We're so cook.
Thankfully, we didn't reveal our identities, or we'd be in deep trouble.
"…What do we do now?"
"…Maybe we should take the game down from 4chan. If someone decides to dig for the truth, we could get sued."
"But they had a heart attack… That means they had a heart condition and still played a horror game."
"Dude, we didn't put any warnings at the start of the game, and they'll use that as a reason…"
"…"
Let's take the game down from 4chan first… Hopefully, no one's bored enough to track down our address…
